  • Forcing current backward through non-rechargeable batteries is a bad thing.

I always thought the expired battery would work as/simulate an inductor and pass voltage, but totally forgot about it's resistance,
Sorin has explained the internal resistance of batteries but didn't speak about mixing old with new batteries in series

Have you watched Bob's videos about batteries?

Thank you sir very good demonstration.
what if we connect the old and new battery in parallel ?

what about mixing old and new batteries in parallel?

What about using a just used almost dead AA battery with a new AA battery for LED fairy lights? It needs two AA batteries but I only had one new one left.
    Is that okay?
I did it and it is working!
It’s obviously not as bright as two new AA batteries but it’s giving a lot of light and warmth!
    Should I stop using it?

Thank you for this instructive video. I have a battery powered Water Pik, and I prefer the flow and pressure when the batteries are slightly used. I was contemplating only swapping one battery at a time (it uses 3 AA batteries). After watching your vid, I can see that this would be a bad thing to do. Assuming the circuit has them in series, how can I achieve ~4V operation rather than the 4.5-4.8V operation when all 3 cells are new? Thanks for your thoughts!
Or is it okay if not as extreme as your example? Say 1 new battery at 1.6V and 2 used batteries at ~1.3?

Just want to know how to jerry rig my battery operated toy by putting them in the best order

Old vs new, then you get a healthy charged battery vs dry cells with low voltage.
Now I didn't think this was supposed to be can you mix healthy + unhealthy batteries. That's obvious.
Your 3 batt setup also generally won't power devices with a dead unit. Try powering a 24v appliance with 12v.
Then I have never seen or heard of a battery charge to reverse polarity. But I just revived a 2001 dry cell sla under 1v with a bit of batter water and a week of charging.
It's quite concerning what wisdom the poor commenters and viewers received from false information
