  • Watch as I sew a lovely tiered dress using Mcalls 7948 (link below). This dress is a perfectly simple design, with 2 tiers and a single button closure at the back neck. I have chosen the sleeveless version -- View C -- but you also have the pattern option of adding sleeves or decorative trim features.
    I'll show you how I've constructed this dress from start to finish.
    The recommended fabric for this project is lightweight wovens, such as rayon, cotton or linen. I have used a polyester fabric with nice flow and drape, but still a good amount of structure.
    This tutorial is intended to make your sewing journey a little easier, with comprehensive instructions, serving as a solo guide or in addition to the written instructions.
    This step by step sewing tutorial with easy sewing instructions is great for beginners to learn how to sew. I am hoping this DIY sewing project and other sewing videos on my channel serve as your companion in completing masterful garments. My aim is to provide one of the best sewing channels to deliver the best sewing videos for you to sew your new wardrobe. With lots of sewing techniques for beginners as well as intermediate sewists, my videos provide plenty of sewing instructions, sewing inspirations and sewing hacks for successful and professional looking garments you can wear over and over with pride.

    I've made both the gathered tier version and the pleated version. This is a fun little dress and it's loads of fun if made in several different fabrics in the dress. It's a good project for embellishment as well.

      Thank you!! This was a thrifted fabric, so I can't say for sure, but it seems to be a textured polyester crepe. 💜
      They had this and the orange one I used for the Peppermint Wrap Top ( czcams.com/video/6-dpQxtZTGA/video.html ) -- same material. 🧡

    Great video much clearer for beginners than the Minerva one. I’ve had a disaster with my back neck I somehow caught the bodice just at the tip if the back slit and the fabric all shredded. It’s a linen mix and I don’t have enough to cut another front and back

    • @Sew-Happy
      @Sew-Happy  Pƙed rokem

      Thank you for watching. I wonder if your "disaster" is at the base of the slit, if you could just make the slit longer and slit into the facing by the same amount? If it's at the top of the slit, you could make the neckline a little lower, just below your fabric damage.

      @Louise-xr5ok Pƙed rokem +1

      @@Sew-Happy thank you , I have m aged to save it. It was at the bottom of the slit and I was using linen and must of caught it and caused a hole. Ive cut it a little longer and put a stay stitch there just in case.

    I’ve seen others use their serger to make the gathers. Have you ever done it that way? Thank you for the tutorial. It was great!

    • @Sew-Happy
      @Sew-Happy  Pƙed rokem

      Hi there. Yes, I have gathered with a serger before and it does work nicely. Here is a link that discusses the technique and settings:

    Can this dress be made as a pull-over, without making the slit in the back?

    • @Sew-Happy
      @Sew-Happy  Pƙed 11 měsĂci

      Hi. You could omit the back slit and sew it as a pull-over dress, but you would have to widen the neckline. As is, without the slit, you could not get it over your head.

  • @Louise-xr5ok
    @Louise-xr5ok Pƙed rokem +1

    How do I know how much to gather please

    • @Sew-Happy
      @Sew-Happy  Pƙed rokem

      You gather each tier just until it fits the circumference of the fabric your attaching it to. So the first tier should be gathered to fit the bottom bodice measurement.

    What if you don’t have a serger please

    • @Sew-Happy
      @Sew-Happy  Pƙed rokem

      No true need for a serger -- you can use a zig zag stitch to finish the seams or use french seams for an even cleaner finish. 🎉
