That’s awesome! Didn’t realize you had the e30. I get that. Man, the Combox was cheap, only ran $37.50. The harness was the most expensive part. Around $150 and then the diagnostic loop was around $30. So all in, around $210. The harness caught me by surprise, but I had already bought the Combox and diagnostic loop.
Also, I tried to price out building the harness myself, but it came out to about a $20 difference, after taxes and shipping.

Whats the difference between normal bluetooth and enhanced bluetooth?
Regular Bluetooth just allows phone calls. Enhanced Bluetooth is needed for streaming audio.
Can all of this coding be done with Bimmercode?
I believe so, but I haven’t tried.

I don't have the instructions anymore, but you can find them on Bimmerfest. They have detailed instructions on the forums on how to code as well as how to build your own harness if needed.
Why not just retrofit a NBT head unit?
Manly, because of the cost to upgrade to the NBT unit. I researched that for a while and if I was going to swap to NBT I would want the latest version, which was somewhere near $800 for all parts necessary.
hi my 2011 f11 535i only have bluetooth combox including a white cable and MOST green cable in and out.want to add an external amp which must be better than the head unit amp.do you have any idea what should I buy and what to do.maybe need to have an other DAC to uncoding the toslink signal combined my external amp?thanks
Unfortunately, I don’t have any information on that process. I would start on Bimmerfest, there are lots of threads and knowledge people that can help lead you in the right direction. Here is a place to start………..

Did you ever figure out the sos malfunction message? I have the same issue. Thought it was because I didn’t write in my vin to the donor combox. Mine was just plug and play. All functions worked. No coding necessary. But my vin doesn’t match and I get the emergency call malfunction message
I had to go in Esys and remove 639 from my VO coding and add 6vc. After I did this and deleted all codes in Ista everything was fixed. If you need a step by step process I would add the BMW retrofit and coding Facebook page and post the questions. They are really helpful.
What was the blue connector for that was left empty
Hello, I want to ask you something about the bluetooth signal, so I have a bmw f01 with a CIC system and I’ve just coded my car because the bluetooth hasn’t working since I’ve got it in 2018, and today I’ve coded the car and I’ve managed to make the bluetooth work but it only works if my phone is in the trunk area there is the only place the bluetooth has signal. Do you know something about this issue? The combox works good, maybe the CIC has an bluetooth antena?

What really is the difference between the stock bluetooth and this one? I have a 535i F11 myself, and wondering wether or not this is a worth it upgrade. Great content btw.
Sorry for the delay in answering. It depends on your car. My stock Bluetooth was for phone call only. I could not stream any music, because I did not have the Combox installed. If you already have a Combox, then you won't see any difference.

I'm really interested in changing out the Combox on my 2013 X5. It has all the features but 4G. So, I have the Combox but I'm not sure how to change the Vin# and add the codes to get the new Combox up and running. Could you help?
My 3 series usb port doesn’t work, I have my phone plugged in and it says not connected, not sure if this is what I need or not also looks pretty complicated so I hope it’s an easier fix lol
I’m really not familiar with the 3 series, but I assume you are using the port in the center console. Have you tried double checking the connections to the port itself? Does the phone charge when connected?
@@JohnsonMotorsports the phone charges but it doesn’t ever go past like 4% I think there’s a short but I don’t know what to do in order to fix it

I'm honestly not sure. I've never used ConnectedDrive.

Before I installed the Combox, Bluetooth would allow me to connect to my phone, but for phone calls only. Sounds like you system is having issues. Have you looked in your trunk to see what is installed?

FYI, this technically won’t be needed if you are upgrading to a Android Headunit, although you can get Breyer audio sound with the Combox.
Just make sure the instructions are for the harness setup you need.
I have a 2011 f10 that streams Bluetooth audio from factory but it doesn't give any artist/song info. Do you know if I code that in or am I just stuck with unknown/various artists/albums?
What apps are you using for the streaming media? I can get artist/song info when streaming Pandora and Spotify, but not actual album art. If I connect via usb, I get album art with Spotify. This could be due to a newer version of the Combox.

I've also seen someone do a screen swap with a glass touch screen unit that had android car play. I'm researching the possibility of that option now too.
Yeah, I plan to upgrade to the Android unit in the future. I’m really not sure on the artist/song info.
Caesar, you can code in the advanced features for displaying artist name, album name & track name but not the album art using ESys. I coded it into my 528xi (E60) using NCS Expert. I have a 2015 640i (F06)that has all the advanced Bluetooth features including album art that came with the car fully activated. I wish I still had the reference I used when I coded my car to give to you because I'm sure it's similar for the F10, but I don't. I'm sure you can find it on a forum somewhere?
Grant great video - my 2011 535 I know that has connectivity for my iphone but there’s no bluetooth for streaming however in the idrive system nothing is allowing be to use the menu to engage siriusxm? its grayed out on the menu and only certain menus are available. Is there a reboot for the system something apparently stopped working. Even when I use usb with my iphone 11promax? thx

So, I think you may not have a Combox. You may want to research Combox’s on Bimmerpost. I did a retrofit of the Combox, so I added these features.

Hi Grant, greetings from The Netherlands here. About to do the same thing in my car, however, it is a pretty basic car. The steering wheel is prepared for use with a telephone and also for speech recognition. However, I do not have bluetooth functionality in my car, so i thought to do a retrofit and add bluetooth and speech recognition.
I do have a question, I don't know what kind of modules I have in my car. It's an F10 from 2010. Whatever kind of modules I have, is this new combox a replacement for all modules? And does it matter what combox I schould use (I saw them from Harman, but also from another brand)?
Last question, where did you buy your combox and cables etc.?
Nope, sorry, not the last question :-) Did I hear you say you had to make a software adjustment in the combox (add your Vin number), before it was recognised? How did you do that?

Checkout the video description. I added 2 links to forum post where I received help in coding and identifying the plugs necessary. It sounds like your car may only have the TCU box. If I were you, I would remove the panels in the trunk and determine what your car came with from the factory. That would give you a better idea of what you may need to purchase. The description also has a link to the Harness and Diagnostic loop that I purchased. When you order the Harness you can tell the seller if you need a harness for just one of the installed boxes or a combination. Hopefully this helps.
