You're basically saying, it's not a sin to be gay. Even though it says so explicitly in the Bible.
It's like saying it's not a sin to fornicate, or murder or steal

When we covet a gender that we weren’t born with, we tell God that the identity we want is better than the one that He gave us. One day, there’s going to be a judgement for all our sins. Please, turn to Christ and He will forgive your sins, including covetousness.

jackie’s awesome. She’s biblically sound and loves and FEARS the lord! no that does not mean she is afraid of the lord but to fear him is to love him and know him as the authority figure of your life. Like your parents. God is the father who will love you in the purest most endless way your parents will never be able to amount to in loving you.
As yes, an ex gay man, I don’t need to be affirmed or accepted by anyone tip toeing around the subject of Jesus loving the LGBT. That’s who I WAS. When I gave my life back to him I gave him everything, all of my identity. You pick up your cross and follow him daily!
I don’t need to be picked up by any man, by any woman, by any community, or even the church. My soul and heart belongs to JESUS and it is so well and held so perfectly by him. Why would I entertain something and continue to speak life into something he's called me out of?
(edit: I just came into the part where you guys both agreed on how you don’t believe homosexuality is a sin at all 😖. Guys come on! Hate the sin & love the sinner of course but don’t be so comfortable you miss Jesus gospel! I’m going to say this out of love but it’s HIS words and warning to all of us! “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.”. Read the gospels guys, ask his spirit to make you uncomfortable. He is not of the world!

I see why you feel offended by her saying that God does not dwell in the LGBTQ+ Community. What I hear throughout the whole video is the cry for the confirmation of God's love and acceptance. Of course he loves you but how could he as a loving father just let us be as we are, drowning in our sin. That would mean we have been perfect from the start and would therefore make Jesus' death unnecessary. What we see throughout the whole Bible beginning with adam and eve is that humans are evil to their core and just NOT PERFECT. So if you decide to just go for anything you feel or are attracted to you're ignoring the fact I just mentioned. You're implying that you are able to make good decisions but without following what God tells us in his word we are not able to do that. Correction does not equal the absence of love, correction of our loving father means love. How can we be so mocking to say we would know best and don't need correction?! And I don't only say that to you I'm also telling myself that dealing with porn addiction. The assumption that God dwells in a community that has decided to go for their sinful lust and give in to the sin that is in every human being would just make no sense as the Bible tells us to flee from sin and specifically points out sexual sin. If God would still dwell in a community that does not flee the sin but stands together for the exact opposite he would just contradict himself and God surely doesn't.

I listened to the entire audio book. I appreciate her journey. But her stories of being a lesbian were associated with drinking, drugs, and open sex. Your observations are spot on. Gay does not equal sexual behavior. I agree she also confused the definition of gay.
Jackie needed to be saved from an abusive lifestyle. She assumes her story is everyone’s gay story. I agree her book is very hurtful and causes more hate then love. Dividing instead of leading to Jesus.
LGBTQ+ friends you are loved by Jesus and He does want you. You can find love and companionship in this life while discovering the overwhelming love the Creator has for you.

How does God's word say you are to identify yourself? Don't blame Jackie...........you have to take that up with God! To follow Christ means to deny yourself. Sin makes you dead (separated from God) Don't look at what Jackie says look at what the Bible says!!!!!! It seems like you guys are upset with Jackie for exposing the truth that is in the Bible you claim to believe. It seems also as you want to dismiss the parts of the Bible that go against your lifestyle. Please seek God and study your word!!! Yes. It is very confusing. The one things that makes her argument sort of understandable (though we don't agree) is that she views the identities of lesbian and gay as sinful. So, in JHP's mind, saying you're LGBTQ is making a "sin" part of your identity (rather than something more neutral like race). STILL...confusing!

  • @Evgeniy9712
    @Evgeniy9712 Před rokem +1

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this. I definitely think that this conversation should be happening and all our ideas should be allowed to be debated in the public square, kind of like how Paul took a lot of opportunities to reason with Jews and Gentiles during his travels. Question for you two: As professing Christians who lean on the affirming side, could you share why you’re getting your definitions on homosexuality from secular sources and not from the word of God? To be frank, the way that I see it, it’s almost the same as saying, “God, I know that You made me, but these people that You also made who don’t even align themselves with You know better than You about my desires and my heart. Yes, yes, I’m aware that You created them also, but they’re professionals. I think that they know better. This is what modern science is saying.” Is there a consistent way that you can reconcile your Christian profession with God’s incontrovertible stance on what secular culture calls an identity? As Christians, the ground we’re standing on should be God’s word in everything, not what the world says or what a particular author says. I get challenged on this a lot, personally. If there’s some part of our lives that doesn’t align with what God says, doesn’t it have to go? I’m not saying that we don’t struggle with temptations. Sin is a daily battle for the believer, but through Christ we can have power over our sins, even victory.
The problem is that many people don’t want to call homosexuality a sin even in the visible church, partly because of Bible teachers who don’t teach the whole counsel of God, but also because of our own fallen biases. If we were in the congregation together and I said, “Hey Joey/Dana, I don’t know if this is a problem, but I’ve loved fighting for as long as I can remember. I can’t help it. It’s the way that I am. I’m drawn to fights.” If you then told me, “Hey, don’t worry about it. You’re just a fighting Christian. God made you in His image, so starting fights is okay. It’s part of your identity. Christ doesn’t want you to change. Be who you are.” That doesn’t work when you give the Bible an honest reading. What tends to happen is that verses get taken out of context like the ones that you used. Maybe you’ll tell me, “Love does no harm to its neighbor?” I’d hope you’d point me to what God says about assault, murder, or even the anger from which murder issues forth (Matthew 5:22), since He made us and knows what’s best for us. Granted this analogy is a lot easier to make because it’s separate from the topic of sexuality, but the principle of conforming our hearts and minds to God’s word is the same. Violence is genuinely an activity that somebody can love doing but that stems from sin when done for the wrong reasons. Still, if we can’t call it sin without people getting offended, there’s a particular sin excluded from what Jesus died to save us from. In other words, Jesus died to save us from our lying, blasphemy, idolatry, murder, etc… just not that (name the sin). If the rich young ruler was told, “Keep your stuff. That’s your treasure. No need to let go of it.” he would’ve gone away rejoicing (though condemned). What is really problematic is telling people who are engaging in an activity that God clearly defines as a sinful activity, not an identity, that it’s alright. That’s causing believers who struggle with these desires to stumble (Luke17:2). Yes, I know I have brothers and sisters in Christ who are struggling with same-sex desires, and I’ve got my own temptations that I need prayer for. My flesh would love to hear that what I’m doing is okay, but tell me the truth from what God calls the truth (John 17:17)
and I’ll appreciate it more. He says the things He says out of love for us, not to be a buzzkill. It’s for our good. As much as it hurts my self esteem, God will see the humility and give grace (James 4:6). Brokenness is a good thing for sinners, because it’s God Himself who heals our wounds. Psalm 51 is a prime example. The corrupted gospel that you’re promoting is doing more harm than the good that you say you’re doing for people. It allows for no true brokenness over sin, and calls evil good. God will not hold you guiltless. Please repent and put your faith in the true Christ, not the idol you’ve made out of Him.
If you think I’m wrong, then please tell me why and where God says it. The apostle Paul commended the Bereans in Acts 17:11 for searching the Scriptures to see if his preaching was true. If you would find something that tells me I’m wrong about this (not taken out of context), I’ll submit to God’s word. I hope anyone else would put such a high value on God’s truth. It’s really hard to write this to you. I want to talk, but I’m worried about how it will be received. More than any of this, though, I don’t want to lie to you. I don’t want to lie to anybody, especially knowing that God heard what I said to you. Could I just encourage you to confront the presupposed bias against God’s clear instruction in His word to suit your preferences? It seems that you want to have the conversation, which is great. I’m all for it. I think both sides of the debate should be submitting to the clear teaching of Scripture and God’s revelation of His identity. How does Ephesians 5’s teaching on marriage not get obliterated by your interpretation of what Jesus sees as loving? How does Genesis, and Jesus’ own interpretation of the created order in Genesis (Matthew 19:4), for that matter?

Rewatching this for the third time now and it always makes me feel so much better!! Thank you girls so much for continuing to spread the true love of God through these videos, you have no idea how much they have helped me and so many others :') !!
Last fall I began my journey into Christianity after joining a Christian community on my college campus, I made a few friends and they were all very nice and at the time seemed to be very accepting of me. I had even explained to them when we had our first bible study that I was very hesitant to come that night because "me gay, church bad!!", but they welcomed me with open arms and told me that God loved all of His children (which is true!). But then they had the audacity to switch it up on me!! They gave me a copy of this book and basically said "God does love you, but he can also help you and save you from sexual immorality". Of course, there was a lot more to the story in terms of all the rude things they did/said, and I remember breaking down and feeling awful because of it- even losing my faith for a while because it genuinely made me feel like I was "un-saveable/unfixable". It made me feel like if He couldn't save me, no one could, and what was the point of even being around anymore :(
Long story short, I took a lot of damage from this. Luckily though, I had enough strength in me to try and find someone else's opinion on this matter and God gave me a late Christmas present with this video :') It really brought me back down to earth to hear someone else say the words I could never find. I really enjoyed this thorough and very fair video review. Its understandable that you guys read the term lifeless and dead and interpreted the way you did.
However, the context of the passage, when read from the bible itself, will give the right understanding. Lifeless and dead was a term used to explain a person before God and how a person is and or feels after God.
Its basically like someone saying "You have not lived until you have tried..." such and such. Its not a statement to be offended by unless the context is not understood. So when someone like her says the term dead, its not a negative term when the context is understood. This requires reading from the source she is pulling from.
Also, given that Jackie is a poet and writer, strong descriptive language is to be expected and you guys brought that up well. So her poetic language is really an exaggeration of something simple.

I don't think Jackie is saying there can be absolutely no overlap in (and pardon my terminology) the lgbtq2+ community and God. God is a God of love but He is NOT a God of acceptance. I believe anger is wrong, I believe watching porn is wrong, I believe gossiping and slandering is wrong and even though I do those sins God still loves me. But that doesn't mean He wants me to gossip and slander. God loves me but He still wants me to fight those sinful desires. And often times I don't want to. So yes God can be evident in an LGBQ2+ community but that does not mean He accepts it means He loves you and he wants you to run away from it and He is going to help you. That doesn't mean we never stumble in sin and by no means is someone going to hell because they are a homosexual. I may not be homosexual but I still have sins that I live in and don't want to give up. Yet the part of God's redeeming grace is that even when I stumble God still loves me and wants to help me. It seems a harsh reality and it seems that a lot of Christians slander the LGBTQ2+ community. I do not support the community myself but every person is loved by God and while I my not accept the fact that someone is indulging in homosexuality I will not shun them because I'm no better or worse then them. They are loved by God just as much as I am and Jesus sacrifice is there for them just as much as it is for me. So to conclude I think what Jackie is saying is that by indulging in homosexuality you are in a world of sin. And truthfully we cannot serve 2 masters we will ether hate one and love the other or vice versa. But humanity (and I am no exception to this) loves to try serve sin and God and although sin seems appealing. God is the only true place of freedom. So yes God loves the people in the LGBTQ2+ community but He does not support their cause because that is not how God created man to be. Perhaps my words sound harsh but regardless of what I say or anyone believes. WE ALL SIN!! But Jesus dies for ALL. And there is only one way to salvation and that I through Christ which means as enjoyable as sin can be only true freedom is found in Jesus Christ and we must flee our sins. EVERY SIN!! B/c no one is perfect and we all deserve hell but Jesus saves all that believe in Him (John 3:16)

Please don't twist her words, the book was very loving and no you can be of sin and be a christian. what you think and what the bible states is 2 things.

Lifeless and dead is a very Christian term! Paul speaks those words all the time we are al dead to sin. (I AM DEAD TO SIN) yet everyday I am renewed by the Spirit and so I must flea those sins and temptations and cling to Jesus the true giver of life because a life of sin is a life of death.

It does not matter which word is used, in God’s eyes is sin. He loves the sinner, but hate the sin. Same sex liking or acting is wrong before God’s eyes. God advise us through His scripture to avoid sin, and to love righteousness. Man and Woman He created us to be. Divided the power of creation between a man and a woman. The Bible is clear about the same sex activity, because it harms the original intention for the creation. And if you believe in God and has surrendered to Him, you will follow His ways and not ours. He is the creator and He alone dictates the rules of the game… Not us! Sorry. But our opinions or feelings are not going to change who He is, but is our choice at the end of the day to follow His rules or not… No one will forced us to follow Him.

Well, hi! Thank you for your review of Jackie Hill Perry's book, Gay Girl Good God. I like the title of the book, because it speaks straight to identity. Some time in your life you need to ask, is God good? Jackie met Jesus while identifying as gay. I love how Jesus said he came to seek and to save those who are lost. He sets captives free! Praise God.
I hear you two identify as gay Christians, and back this up with the scripture that says God created man and woman in his image. You also wince when you say sin. You didn't, however, define sin. I assume that since you winced you must think sin is terribly bad. Why is sin bad, and who decides what sin is? Let's assume that a person who sins has missed the mark of God's perfection. Haven't we all? The good news is that Jesus came and told everyone how sin separates us from God. Wait, separates? There it is. One may say just because I identify as gay and encourage everyone in the lgbtq community to pick their own identity does not mean I'm separated from God. I believe Jesus died for my sins and took the punishment for my sins and that I'll go to heaven when I die. See, I can be both. Do you know that a lot of what Jesus' ministry on earth spoke to that very mindset? He lovingly directed people to consider what God says. Hate is murder. Lust is adultery. Pharisees and Sadducces believed in God but differed in opinions of truth. This is one reason why Jesus is the light of the world. He sheds light on strongholds in our minds.
Can I encourage you to consider the two incredible questions Jesus asked Peter? 1, Who do you say that I am? Peter answered Son of God. As accurate as that is, I don't think that is what Jesus was looking for. 2, Do you love me? The answer Jesus wanted to hear from Peter is given in Jesus' response to Peter saying yes. Feed my lambs. Feed my sheep. Shepherd my sheep. Yes! We may profess that Jesus is the Son of God and declare ourselves Christian, but until we know Jesus as our shepherd we don't have the relationship with him that he desires for us. Without being led by Jesus, we cannot lead others well. He would call us blind guides, and depart from me...I never knew you.
One of the things I love that Jackie leans into was that I need to trust God even when I disagree.
All glory to God, in Jesus name.

I agree with your response, partly. See you mention that lust is adultery. Most Christians who believe homosexuality is a sin (I am not one of them) only condone homosexual acts, because homosexual attraction doesn't go away, and that the only way to truly follow God is celibacy. However, using the idea that lust is adultery, like you said, and like Jesus said, would make the attraction itself sinful. The difference between lust and homosexuality is that lust is towards one or a few people, and the main reason it is lust is because the luster is married or in a relationship or the lustee is in a relationship, married or is a child, and the pursuing of that lust would cause way more harm than good. Homosexuality is an attraction to all of only one gender, and little or no attraction to the other. Being attracted to both men and women, is being Bi, not homosexual. But most homosexuals have only the attraction to the other gender, and nothing else. And if you read "Is God Anti Gay or Not?" and listen to other testimonies of gay people who are Christian, you will see that praying for it to go away is a common prayer, and more often than not, God doesn't take it away. If God has the power to remove every infliction and desire, and can do anything and has the power to do anything, and heals a lot of people, why doesn't he take away homosexual attraction? All that is to say, the people who wrote the bible had only the understanding of homosexuality the way it was in that day, and homosexuality then is not the way it is now. And the only person who knew what it would be in the future, Jesus, never spoke about homosexuality at all. I have a belief about this, it is because God created homosexual people, blesses them and affirms them.
I define sin as something that intentionally hurts yourself or someone else in some way, or puts yourself or something else above God.

    • @lionkj12
      @lionkj12 Před rokem +1

@Musiclover-tm5es I can see how you would come to that conclusion. When you begin with an opinion, you naturally end with an opinion that supports your theory. However, most of what you're talking about is more propaganda than truth about God and what Jesus calls sin. Most of us are prone to understand who Jesus was as if he were one of us. However, John 3:16 tells us that Jesus was the only one of a kind son of God. Jesus fully represented who God was and is today. To say Jesus approves of homosexuality would be to deny that his Father calls it sin.
Think of it this way. When Adam disobeyed God, sin and death entered the world and continues to enslave humankind. Sin and death were waiting for evil to do it's work tempting Adam to choose. Adam wasn't born a sinner, he became a sinner. He chose to go against God when he followed Eve. The God created gender roles were flipped.
I think you said Christians condone homosexual acts? False. Sin leads to death. Jesus wants everyone to live for ever and equips every believer with both his Spirit and his Word. We need his Spirit to teach us his word. Without both, we are left going on culture and feelings.
Paul met Jesus and wrote Romans. James grew up with Jesus and wrote James. Check out what they say about sin and our own evil desires. Just want to encourage you to keep searching for truth and to not settle on what culture preaches to be true. If we consider sin to only be what hurts someone else, we fool ourselves into thinking that we decide what's good for us. That leaves our Creator and judge out of the loop, and pride comes before the fall.

You’ve gotta let go of your identity as a queer person in order to identify with Christ. It says “The Lord know those who are His. Let those who name the name of Christ depart from iniquity,” and in another place, “For what shall it profit a man if he gains the world yet loses his soul?”

2 Timothy 4:3-4 (NASB95) 3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires, 4 and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths.
Hey, I understand your desire to have the conversation. I even understand your desire to see souls saved. This is great. We have that in common, but don’t compromise the gospel for the sake of getting along. Compromise isn’t the cure for “church hurt.” The Gospel of Jesus Christ is, and it cures a lot more than that. I’m living proof, and any truly saved person is. Don’t you want to shepherd the flock of God the right way? You have to answer to Him anyway. I want to encourage you, Evan, you don’t need the approval of men and women who don’t hold to what the Bible teaches. Teach what God tells us. If someone is changed by it, praise the Lord. If someone is offended by it, praise the Lord anyway. But you be faithful to God. If you’ve been called to shepherd and feed the flock of God, you have no business changing up sheep food for goat food. What were the Master’s words to Peter after His resurrection? “Do you love me?” “Feed my sheep.” There was nothing there about feeding goats. You show your love for Jesus by being obedient, but don’t redefine love thereby twisting His words. God does the transforming.

The truth of God isn’t so cheap that we can trample it like that. The idea that “everything’s fine. God’s okay with everything” is dangerous and a stumbling block to real Christians who want to take up their cross every day and die to self to serve the Lord (I.e. what Jesus, whom you say you’re with, commands us to do). Please consider what you’re saying and read the Scriptures. I can say from experience, it cuts through our feelings, likes, dislikes, and excuses. Please, you’ve gotta repent and start really living by faith in Christ. He will have mercy on you if you do.

I'd recommend checking out the episode "Gender Identity, Biblical Womanhood & Girly Girls" of the Thirty Minutes With The Perrys podcast (you can easily find it via Google) . It might clarify the question of femininity you addressed. As for the rest, to me it seems like the root issue is the question of whether homosexual sex is a sin or not, and the question of how central your sexuality is to your identity is actually secondary. What I mean is that even if someone doesn't build their entire identity on a particular sin, this person is still sinning if they commit it, regardless of whether it's their main source of identitiy or not. That's why I think that identity is not the main thing here. (Edit: Even if the person never commits it, they are likely to, at least implicitly, encourage others to commit the thing they don't consider sinful, so it's not just about whether it's practiced by them or not.)
And then, there are probably quite a few things that play into the controversies over the right interpretation of the Bible regarding the subject of homosexuality. But I guess it's primarily about translation. Correct me that assumption is wrong. I'd love to hear about what has lead you to your interpration. If it's indeed about the translation of the original Greek, you could check out (again a recommendation :D) the video 'Has "Homosexual" Always Been in the Bible? An Interview with Preston Sprinkle' on Dr. Sean McDowell's YT channel.

What I see that wokeness often tries to do is shut down the discussion rather than engaging with the other side. If you do love God, you should be reasoning with people that you don’t agree with instead of demonizing them for mistreating minorities.
