I learned this beautiful piece in high school orchestra ca.1973, playing trumpet, not an obvious part of the music overall but some of the best bits I ever played.
Vibrant , colorful , upbeat and proud ! I can almost imagine the splendour of a stocky gent attired in the finest silk threads moving with such dainty stance and all watching !
Just simply fantastic! This is my favourite clasical piece; just perfect in everyway. Uplifting, joyous, expansive, profound, playful, and the ending, so cliched but, at the same time, so utterly perfect!
This is an excellent performance! The tempo and balance among sections (accompaniment vs. melody) can get out of hand with this movement but the conductor kept everything under tight control. The woodwind soloists answered the high demands on them with competence. The percussion was exciting restrained. I wish they had uploaded a higher resolution recording both the video and audio. Bravi tutti!
INCREDIBLE performance of one of my all-time pieces. I like the animation of the conductor, but for a 4/4 time signature, I find his direction a little too...well, non-directorial. I prefer the standard, hackneyed "sign of the cross" from the conductor's baton while he/she uses their body language and the free hand to bring out the nuances. That being said, BEAUTIFUL performance! Breathtaking!
