Building Our Stone Home at 50% | ABANDONED FARM RENOVATION

- After putting our abandoned cabin renovation on hold for a week or so (as we were both a couple of sick puppies), we're back building our stone house albeit at 50% energy levels. We could of probably done with another week off, but being the restless folks that we are, we were desperate to get back on with the restoration. Summer is just around the corner, and we want to be working inside by the time it arrives!
We continued with the demolition/rebuilding of the wall under the windows in preparation for our new DIY window sills and eventually new windows! We're also back on project vegetable garden, beginning to set up our irrigation system.
LIKE THIS VIDEO if you enjoyed it & SUBSCRIBE to follow our journey as we document our life here in Portugal & the many DIY projects that we'll be tackling including renovating a tiny stone home, setting up systems to grow some of our own food & finally restoring the 100+ year old farm house.
Also say hi in the comments! We'd love to hear from you 😊
Ricky & Victoria x
-------------
We're Ricky & Victoria 👋 We're slowly bringing an abandoned off grid Portuguese farm back to life & transforming it into a beautiful homestead for us & our two rescue dogs Teddy & Poppy.
We both agree that we’re not experts in anything that we do here, however we don’t let that stop us from giving it a try. We live our life by trying. We live our life by doing. We live our LIFE BY LIVING.
#stonehouse #abandonedfarm #homesteadlife
I love how you two work in harmony with each other
Your little innuendos make me smile 😂❤
I agree ! They are my favorite couple on CZcams :)
Me too. I just love to see how they get along together 🥰
I enjoy the chemistry between the two of you. I hope you both feel 100% soon. Thanks for the video.
What a great new wall in the house, it looks fabulous, and the newly found wall in the garden also looks fabulous. Well done to you both on your hard work this week when you’re not feeling too good. Thanks for sharing, Pauline
You both work in perfect harmony. Love how the whole house and garden spaces are progressing. Awesome
awwww I adore you two, even though you are both feeling under the weather you have carried on and made progress on your house, garden and video, I loved the little dance you did, so funny, the area you cleared from brambles looks delightful, I bet the stone wall can now breath instead of being choked, brambles are a nuisance , hazardous, and hard to get rid of. your vitamin C drink looked delicious. I'd run a mile if i seen a snake! my Sister has them on her property in Portugal too. you have done a great job on the house taking all the old concrete out from underneath the window especially as you are feeling rough, little by little you will get there. I am sending you both lots of love and energy and get well soon hugs. Thank you for the delightful video. xx
I rebuilt an old farm and I have snakes. I don't mind them. They try to avoid bothering you and they control the mice.
@synicyst9925 I am scared of creepy crawlies worms spider's haha
Thank you Karen 😊 We actually don’t mind the snakes. We’re more concerned about their safety & protecting them from Poppy!😁
Awww… you two are just so adorable!!! Please take care of yourselves! Even sick, your progress is amazing! I love when you speed up the wall building bits, as it just looks like it appears like magic! Thank you for sharing your life and journey with us! ❤
If only the stone wall could actually be built that quickly!😁 Thanks for watching as always Marsha ❤
Just aa little tip. Don't use a knife to peel ginger, use a teaspoon. Sounds strange but it works. The edge is not sharp enough to cut the ginger but enough to drag the skin off.
that's a big tip, 'cause its useful.
@@AdamofCA.and it works!
I was going to say you’re both so lucky with your beautiful homestead, but luck has nothing to do with it, you wanted it, planned it, then made it happen with tonnes of hard graft along the way. Inspiring 👍🏻
Just such a joy to watch you two at work and play ... great progress even though you've been under the weather. 😄😄😍😍😎😎
Your place is not only eye catching beautiful but also the tranquility in the back yard is amazing 💅.your attitude really brings happy tears to my eyes and at joy to heart 👏I love unconditionally your pride moments and respect your family value enormously 👍🙏🇮🇳.
You need to wear a mask to prevent breathing silicone dust from rocks and cement! I know it is inconvenient but you need to protect your lungs.
Good advice. But it’s silica not silicone.
🐶🐹😎👷♀️👷♂️
Important reminder
Great advice mate
@@TheBasementChannel yes you‘re right, one is not breathing silicone but silica instead, however the damage to one’s lungs might be a condition called silicosis. That’s probably where the confusion comes from
You may be pooped but your doing an outstanding job on the new wall. Vicky I was impressed how much you did with the strimmer and finding all those old tools and the wall looks great.
I think it’s Victoria, not Vicky.
@@jilllangman9343 Yes. She made that quite clear in an earlier video.
@@jilllangman9343 You are correct but I have heard him refer to her as both Vicky and Victoria. I'll bet his true name is Richard but I have never heard her refer to him as nothing but Ricky.
@@cathybrewer8958 l have never heard him call her Vicky. They are a very sweet, almost Victorian couple and it seems sacrilegious to get their nomenclature wrong, but l will pay close attention 🍓🐝🦋
I enjoy your videos that I only discovered yesterday. Your property is wonderful. I will carry on to watch as much as possible and enjoy your progresses. Ricky is a perfectionist and both of you are not afraid of hard work to get the perfect end result. I renovated a French cottage thirty years ago, on my own while living and working in London. Hard graft, but for the last thirteen years I have been enjoying the fruit of my hard work. I do not like heat, but love Portugal, wonderful people, food and country. Porto is my favorite city. I expect that you are in the Coimbra area, which is very tranquil. Well done the two of you.
Loving watching your updates Ricky & Victoria, Your Furkids are also loving life, hope you are both feeling much better real soon xxx
You live in paradise. Feel better soon!
I particularly liked the traditional Portuguese country dance when installing the IBC. Very kice 🤭
As a birder, you continually make me jealous with sneak peeks of birds around you. Black Storks, Black Kites, eagle species, and now you have Nightingales singing on your land and you didnt even notice! 🦅🐦⬛🦩
Nice not kice!
LOTS of vultures too!
I was truly impressed watching you do the strumming as well feeling under the weather as you’re doing it. Great work you two
Sorry to hear you guys have been poorly 🤒 Things are coming along nicely with the little house, it’s a lot of work but will all be worth it in the long run 👍 Must say congrats on the production and editing of your videos as well, it really is excellent now. Keep us the great work guys!
Thanks for explaining your approach on removing the concrete and smaller stones from under the windows. Makes sense!
You both make all these new skills look so easy! It’s like you have been doing these projects everyday for years! Thank you for another great video!🙏🙏🙏Blessing’s
Thanks Laura. We both love learning new things, especially practical stuff. The only issue is that we're slow as a result. Hopefully the second time around we'll be much quicker!
That night life reminds me of my childhood back home in Rhodesia listening to the crickets, frogs, grasshoppers etc etc. Hope you both get better soon. Have a lovely day.
I hope you'll be feeling better soon!! The house is looking great!! Slow but steady get the work done. I hope you have a great day!
I’m all caught up and have watched all 63 of your videos while doing my own house projects ( a busy month ) , I must say I really love you two and your personalities!
Thank you! Glad you’re enjoying the videos & appreciate you watching all 63! Hopefully they’ve got better with time!😁
I agree with other comments regarding the way you two work together. I think you are an adorable couple! I have watched a few other similar videos. but yours by far is my favorite. I look forward to them every week. Sorry you are feeling under the weather. Feel better soon. 😊❤
Thank you Janice ❤
As usual, hard work tires out the body. But if you are like me, it is a satisfying type tired as well.. That is when I know I did my best. You two are making your life dreams come true every day... Thumbs Up!
Snoring within 2 minutes of the lights going out!😂
@@LifebyLiving i hear you. As soon as my head rests on the pillows, my eyes say goodbye to the world.
My Doc at the Veterans' Clinic says that being supine brings on sleep because the body works harder when standing which tires the entire anatomy.
A tip for your caps. When storing them take the brim and gently bend it down evenly on both sides, then fold the cap and tuck the brim through the hole in the back. A collector taught me that. Stone work is looking good and the bramble armageddon was pretty epic.
I am in total awe watching you rebuilding under the windows , it is such a skill choosing the right size stones manoeuvring smaller stones into the gaps. Well done excellent work Ricky a huge pat on the back.
Thanks Valerie!😊 Really happy with how it’s turning out
Looking at the deconstruction of the under window patchwork, I’m convinced your tiny house was once a three stall stable. Possibly had 3 Dutch doors. Cool building!
By far the cutest off-grid couple on CZcams! :-)
Thanks!😘
Please listen to your body if you are not feeling well. Take a break❤Great job with the rebuild.
despite of being sick, you work very hard... amazing... thank you
I love you guys, you are such a sweet couple and hard workers. And both of you are capable of having an eye for the important things in life (besides all the daily tasks). I really enjoy watching your videos. Chicken soup for the soul!
Awww thank you Petra ❤
Your videos always go by so fast, the production on them with the editing and music is just so wonderful to watch, it doesn't seem to matter what you are doing! Thanks for filming even when you didn't feel very energetic, the stonework under the windows looks great, I hope you will get your energy back soon.
Really enjoy your work ethic, your lovely attitudes and humor, your doggies, AND the night sounds, which I just love!!! Your property is looking just lovely. Good on you, that is one healthy orange tree ❣❣🍊🍊🍊
have a great week 💖
Sounds like you both had the flu or covid. Those take a while to recover from.
Drink lots tea, tea makes you feel better. And being in a hotter climate than England you need at least twice as much, if not more. Florida girl here, lol.
I'm enjoying your journey, like a lot of others. Your happiness comes right through the screen.
We did wonder if we had covid…never had it before but we both felt dreadful so could have been
@@LifebyLiving When Vicky said she lost her sense of smell that made me think covid. It's not as bad now, more like the flu, but it does make you more tired for 3 to 4 weeks after.
Thank you SO much for throwing in those bits of nature sounds!
Sorry you are both not feeling the best, but as ever you soldier on with such good humour. Love love what you are creating. Well done! Lilian ❤
Hi guys! Stonework looks great, but please take care of yourselves ❤️🩹!! We can wait till you’re feeling better…and Poppy and Teddy need you🥰🥰.
Thanks Esme! We’re back to 100% now 💪🏼
LOL it took 18 minutes in before the innuendos started hahaha!!! Love you guys so much! Glad everyone is feeling better. It's almost time for you guys to enjoy that little wading pool to go with those lovely Mojitos!!
It’s filthy & green at the moment but nearly time to get it cleaned & in action!
I love what you are doing. I wish I was doing this now. I rebuilt an old farm 30 years ago and really enjoyed the stone working and wall building. It is joyful to see young people enjoying the same thing.
Exhausting but satisfying work!😊
Oh,good! I thought I had lost you!
Sorry you haven't been feeling well!
You work so hard and you have accomplished so much!!
Glad to see you!
Greetings from Northern California!
I swear you guys have the same nasty cold I’ve got. I’m on day 14 now, still very stuffed up in my head, coughing less though, finally. Longest lasting cold ever. Hope you’re all better by now 🧡
Hope you get well soon! ❤Whatever it was it was horrible!
Tiny house looks fantastic. So much hard work. Can't wait to see your main home reno.
I love watching you two and you make me laugh. Im so sorry you have both been ill. The walls under the windows look so much better than all that concrete, good job Ricky, despite being ill. I never knew that about orange trees, how amazing and what a great strategy it has. Wonderful work cleaning those brambles Victoria as that wall is lovely. Hope you have a good week and feel much better x
Thank you Lynne 😊 Hope you have a great week too!
❤ Lovely seeing that night sky and listening to the night time sounds. Thank you. ❤
Hope you guys are feeling much better ❣️. Great job on the wall 👍🥰👍 I love your pets 💗💗💗💗 First picture on video is breathtaking! Your property is beautiful 💐💐
Thanks for sharing you two. Rest up and take care of each other. Stones look fantastic. 😊 🇨🇦
You two make me laugh out loud with your little innuendos, love your channel, well done ❤
Wow - the 'rebuit' wall sections look like they have always been there - job very well done👌👌👏👏
It was interesting to hear insects/birds during the recent eclipse. Watched one you tube from a farm in U.S. where the night insects/birds actually came alive in sound and flying about during the eclipse darkness. Fascinating. 🇨🇦 ❤
would love to have experienced that! Unfortunately we couldn't see the eclipse here
You two are so sweet. My favorite CZcams vlog. Good job guys!
The wall repair looks great! Love the revealed stone wall as well ❤
A rest and a recharge is all good. ❤
Progress is progress 👍 hope you’re both all better soon 😎
You two are incredibly dedicated, and super cute together.😊
Victoria, you look like a soldier martching off to war with your strummer(?). So cute. Get better soon😂😂😂❤❤❤❤
Marching with her musket!😂
You are a perfect Duo... having fun even the work you do is way more tedious than it appear on a screen ❤
You are such a cute couple. The land is really coming together
My favourite home builders. Great work as always 👍
Tip on peeling ginger - use a spoon to scrape off skin. It’s so much easier. 😁
You guys are amazing! I know you have *jobs*, so how you get all these projects done is just so impressive. I LOVE watching your channel. Seeing Spring come alive on your little farm makes me want to chuck it all and move to Portugal! 😍 Someday...
Loved the music. You guys are so funny together. The window definitely looks better with the new stonework.
You Two are very industrious after not feeling very well. I always enjoy our videos, but please be careful not to over-do~~💚
Cheers.......well done on all you got done....despite being "under the weather"😊
You’re such a cute couple. I enjoy watching you every week. Great job on the stone work. I hope you feel better soon 😊
Victoria you are my favorite female CZcamsr, (you and another solo homesteader in Sweden). I really enjoy and appreciate your sensible, straightforward, organized way of doing things. Great work revealing that old stone wall. I’m sure your garden will be great this year. And your stone cottage is so lovely too!
You're very kind. Thanks Betty 🥰
I just love watching you both building your little home and new life 🥰 and your furbabies are beautiful !
OR, as we like to call them here on 'Planet Not Really Annoying'...
..... DOGS........!!!
Omg, you two are the cutest!!♥️
😘
Glad you are getting better - hope you recover fully soon. The refreshing vitamin drinks looked great. Enjoy and love your updates thanks.
You are such a sweet couple! I enjoy watching you guy's. Hope you both feel better soon. The house is coming along beautifully. Keep up the great work!!
Greetings from your old homestead to the new. Great update as always, the lurgy has been through our house to 🤧. Hope you are 100% soon ❤
Seems like everyone’s had it recently!
Those two spots below the windows make a huge difference! Good job!
Always fun watching your channel with your cheeky innuendos but also great for me to see how you are doing things as I need to do similar at my stone house. Looking forward to seeing you repoint the outside of the stone walls.
What an adorable couple ❤❤❤
Looks much better! Hope you're both feeling better!
Get well soon take things easy this week thanks for the video 😊😊😊😊
Greetings from Burnham-on Sea. Great work on the wall. You are becoming a good stone wall builder!!!
You are such an adorable couple and so compatible. Your heart is in all that you do that is so evident and both of you have so many more skills than you realise. The wall under the windows was definitely needed as it is this part that you will see each time you approach it and when is is finished you will have so much satisfaction.
I love watching you two, hard working and lovely❤
This stone cottage will be a jewel very soon!
Victoria, orange blossoms are one of my favorite smells, and I love orange blossom honey!
And, Ricky, the night sounds are awesome, and I love them also!
Уже шикарно и очень романтично.
Hi all the way from New Zealand. Really enjoying watching you both transforming your property, you both work well together.
Smiles and great work ethic abound! Your enthusiasm and joy being together is refreshing!
Great job guys!! Keep up the good work I really enjoy watching you both and you have a great sense of humor even when things aren't going your way.
Great job done on rebuilding under the windows looking a lot better. Also nice job on exposing the wall and a nice garden tidy up looks so much better. Great job done by you both well done.❤❤❤
love your sense of humor attention to detail and really thoroughly enjoy your videos keep up the great work
Thank you for the sample of night music from your farm. Beautiful!
Just love you two! Feel better soon.
I enjoy your videos so much. Thank you for taking the time to include us on your journey.
Your videos are so good. Not only are you both lovely, I just love the style and editing. 😁❣️
thank you!
Stonework looks great. You guys are so fun to watch!
A nice little set of French doors on either side would look really nice.
Greetings from Thailand. Was that a Hawk at the 2:00 mark. Think about that when you get chickens. You’ll need overhead netting. I’m dealing with that situation myself, plus I have hawks and eagles.
I so enjoy watching your videos each week! I remember the few in the beginning it was just Ricky…love your chat and humor together ! Hope your both feeling better this coming week😊
Excellent video and well done on the stonework. Re: The OBC - Sun penetration will turn the water green with algae, best to cover the outside of the IBC in black plastic (DMP 3m x 4m, then tape it up). You can take the plastic tank out of the cage and wrap it, then put it back in. Best of luck 👍
We already have a cover. You can see us pull it off before we moved it 👍🏼
I love watching you two. Hope you feel better soon. Great job on the stone work under the windows. Both of you are so much fun to watch.
Hope you feel better soon, guys.
Hi Victoria & Ricky, yet again, despite battling nasty colds, you have made great progress this last week, we could hear you were not firing on all cylinders by your voices. BTW: loved your jig at 13:21, 🕺💃,it was stomping good. Sorry, last two episodes my feedback was in late, but just to reiterate what I wrote last week, that your decision to take the walls down under the windows was the right one, because the replacement stones are much more in keeping with the cottage masonry. Take care both, Paul, Swansea 👍👍
Thanks Paul! We’re really pleased we decided to take out the concrete too. The stonework is making it look soooo much better!
♥watching you guys. hope you are feeling 100% soon
Lovely how the house and garden spaces are progressing - you both are doing an amazing job.
