  • Shriya Srinivasan demonstrates how sensory perception traverses from the soles of her feet to the brain as she dances a south Indian classical dance form, Bharathanatyam. The natural sense of where one's limbs are oriented in space at any given time and how they are moving is called proprioception. For the millions of amputees, this sensory feedback is lost due to an outdated surgical method. Shriya Srinivasan describes her research, which redesigns the surgical paradigm, reconnecting severed neural connections. This talk explores futuristic neural interfaces and challenges their ability to truly recreate the human experience. Shriya, PhD candidate at the the Harvard-MIT Health Sciences and Technology program, is currently redesigning amputation surgeries and neural interfaces in Dr. Hugh Herr’s Biomechatronics lab. These designs enable patients to control their prostheses with native neural signals and receive sensory feedback. Shriya is the co-director of MIT Hacking Medicine and seeks to address healthcare challenges through creative design and lowering barriers to innovation.
Shriya is also a classical dancer (Bharathanatyam) and co-founded Anubhava Dance Company to propagate the classical arts amongst first generation artists in the US. She benefits from the interplay between her artistic and scientific worlds. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. If you wonder why she is where she is now then she did her research at MIT not IIT

Please do not Americanize Bharathanaatyam and the Mahabharatha.

Yes seriously-- they westernize everything and the spiritual essence is lost within the technocratic capitalistic intentions of the ruthless west

I am sure you wouldn't/ haven't repeated the same mistake in your Ted talk abroad. Please do link it up, happy to hear about your research paper ☺️
