I'd like to thank the late Mr Pegg - he was the man who took me for my first motorbike ride at the age of 8, on a Vincent Black Shadow. I wasn't expecting much because to me it looked like an antique (this was around 1965), but when he opened it up I was hooked on bikes and still am. I ride an old BMW K75S, which was the Vincent of the 1980s I think.

@@derniederrheiner4518 OK, it's my opinion. One of the chief testers for Vincent chose a BMW K75RT to ride until he was in his eighties, so he knew they were the closest modern bike to a Vincent. The same performance, but more advanced .

These machines are wonderfully idiosyncratic. They infect their owners with a passion for them more than any other make I have known. I absolutely love them, but even after decades, still feel a little anxious about some aspects of working on them. Thank you so much for uploading this.

Thank you so much for this story. Vincent HRD has been a legend down here in Argentina. It was always the bike of my dreams. There are still some of them going around.

Peering through a time tunnel to ancient days where it is so easy to see how the BEST lines in motorcycle design were copied forward even to this day!

Machines well ahead of their time, some cycle parts made from stainless steel as standard and the build quality was very high, sadly something that was to play a part in Vincent's downfall due to high production costs.

The Lightnings were designed to run on methanol. Imagine two 500cc speedway motors combined into one motor. It must have been very exciting to ride.

Looking at the old TT films one might imagine "well they are going so slow compared to today! It had to be easy!" But just consider even the TIRES of that day! Not to mention the awful BRAKES! And suspension! Likely alot more confidence inspiring to do 300 kmh today vs 200 then! Especially with such superior personal protective gear now as opposed to then! It must have been sheer terror for any any normal human being!

I can't watch this. I've lusted after one of these since around 1985 and will never own one unless I win a lottery jackpot.
