    Crank to flywheel dowels are your friend!!!! If you can install oversize bolts, you can install dowels. Drill and ream to suit. Very common in high HP NA 4 cylinders that suffer from lots of vibration. That said, wrong torque settings won't be helpful. Cant remember from the video, were they lock tighted as well?

    • @cmattdabrat
      @cmattdabrat  Před 2 lety +1

      This is true. I'll see what I can do to add some. The stock bolts were loctited as well. They come with some from the factory. You're right about that. I'll have to install the balanced crankshaft in this round.

    Hi Matt! Sorry to hear about the flywheel issues. I've got the x18xe1 running a stock steel singlemass flywheel with stock m9x1.0 bolts (which i've re-used 3 times now), pushing 320hp no problem. I also think the aluminium flywheel is the culprit, rather stick with oem stuff unless its critical to upgrade to aftermarket. Oem stuff will always give better reliability than aftermarket.

    I knew the bolts that broke must have been over tightened! Not that I'm crapping on you, it just wasn't making any sense to me. Sometimes I literally find 5+ sources for a single critical torque spec. It's amazing how often I find conflicting results and have to keep digging to get proper verification. I don't personally think the aluminum flywheels are worth it for the money when a lightweight chromoly steel version is available for less money with similar benefits and none of the downsides. Glad you're remaining positive. Hope you get it sorted quickly!

      No starter engagement so has to be the same issue. What engine do you have?

  • @VinnyXL420
    @VinnyXL420 Před 2 lety

    Phong from PSI speed had a flywheel issue a while ago, he resolved it by putting back the little shim that goes between the flywheel and crankshaft, andthe m32 is no different, theres a shim there and it must be used.
    Apparently what caused the issue was vibration and other harmonics shaking the flywheel so much that it actually broke the CRANK.
    So make sure that shim is there.
    Those torque figures look about right, heres the procedure on a Z20:
    Flywheel/Drive Plate
    Tighten: 65Nm
    Tighten: 30 Degrees
    Tighten: 15 Degrees
    Those use a M10x27 bolt.
    The OEM flywheel bolts for your crankshaft are M9x23, so 60nm+45+15 seems about right.

    • @garyhowe88
      @garyhowe88 Před 2 lety +1

      The shim your talking about with phong is a diamond impregnated friction shim, stops the flywheel from fretting, as when it does it wears either the flywheel or crank and you loose the tension on the bolts. Seems to be really common on 4 cylinders than only use 6 or so bolts to hold the flywheel on. I just put two 10mm taper dowels as well and never had an issue.

    • @cmattdabrat
      @cmattdabrat  Před 2 lety

      Looking at the manual, the only real shim there is the reluctor ring, but we'll get it sorted.
      With Phong's car, I could see that. I have my other crank that's fully balanced I'm going to toss into this one to get things going.

      Definitely a lot of learning curves, but we'll get there! Even with things fully working, I'm it would only be a matter of time before something else gives in the M32 driveline, but I'm up for the challenge.

    Your problem is most likely aluminum and steel. Every modern aluminum head V8 breaks exhaust bolts off the manifolds due to heat expansion stressing the studs and bolts and they constantly break the heads off. Every aluminum head with a steel manifold dose it. Dont matter if u own gm ford or dodge they all leak at the manifolds

    • @cmattdabrat
      @cmattdabrat  Před rokem

      Was the timing belt, but wont go back to an aluminum flywheel again. Even ZZP broke their bolts. Same issue with them sheering at 600whp.

    Matt, wheres my comment gone? Not sure if you saw it or not, bit i talked about the engine you have, the ecotec and how vauxhall in the UK have the same. Is it a GM engine?

    • @cmattdabrat
      @cmattdabrat  Před 2 lety

      Not sure. Didn't see it before. Sometimes of find comments that are marked as spam by CZcams.
      Any how. The 1.6 vxr, F18D4, z18xer, and 2H0 are the same engine, depending on displacement. The 1.6 is slightly different in the fact it doesn't have VVT and uses mechanical cams and lifters. Same block and head though.

    • @the8valveturbo
      @the8valveturbo Před 2 lety

      @@cmattdabrat ok, great Z18XER is an engine number i recognise. I have a Z20LET block, but the head off a C20NE.
      Anyways, what i was saying, was ive never heard of any flywheel having the problem you are, at least in the UK. Theres a company in the UK that make/produce billet flywheels (i have one on my motor with zero issues, and an eBaY turbo too), called TTV. If you search for them, TTV billet flywheel, you should be able to find the flywheel for your block with the correct bolts, though youve enlarged them now. And yes that would mean getting abother flywheel, but at least it would be correct with correct bolts and torque settings.
      They also do other billet wheels like crank etc, so its worth having a look?
      Also to note, and again i dont know what in your block, i have left in my balanced girdle in the block. Some guys opt to have them out.
      As a precautionary measure, the clutch is correct for your gearbox/trans right? And not shaking your crank to death? Im using a Helix clutch, as they have superb clamping pressure for boosted engines....
