- It seems like every vehicle manufacturer has or is working on an all electric vehicle. From out of seemingly nowhere, Tesla was finally successful enough to push other car manufacturers into making electric vehicles of their own. Will we see the same thing in the SxS and UTV market? Vanderhall thinks so and their first shot looks impressive! In this video we'll give you our thoughts on the Vanderhall Brawley all electric SXS!

I'm an old dude that doesn't plan to rip through the woods with one of these. Yes, they basically seem to be a non street legal jeep, but the price point is much lower than any new Jeep: a heck of a lot lower. My Son has a 2021 Rubicon: Over $70K new, plus installing a lifted suspension, wheels and giant tires, rooftop tent, and front bumper with winch. Close to $100K when it hit the woods. His Sister (my favorite Daughter) was driving it through the off road trail in Daniel Boone National forest and struck a submerged rock in the trail. Busted the front axle in two. How much do you guess that cost to repair? You act like you're afraid of repair costs. Do you not tear up your SXS's? I'm sure you do and they are not always cheap to repair either. If you can fix them yourself, that is a bonus. I have been an electrician all my life specializing in maintaining and repairing electric motors and their associated machinery. I see many advantages with the electric motor setup in the Brawley: No drive shafts, no belts, no carburetors, no air cleaners, no fuel tank, no transmissions, and I can probably come up with more advantages. The basic model is still listed at around $35K, but this model has no air conditioning or heated seats, and the HP is only a measly 300 HP which I still find pretty impressive, and the body seems to lack full enclosure of the occupants. Some 4 seat SXS's are at the $35 price already and do not post nowhere near the performance data offered by the Brawley (Of course, until the production models roll out, the actual performance of the Brawley is undetermined. I don't plan to do any extreme rockcrawling, but if I was, the Brawley looks like an interesting platform to start with. I just plan to use it to cruse down old fire roads and logging roads where I get permission to take it. Oh, I almost forgot, the concern about charging it when you plan to be out in the Boonies for multiple days: Do you not have to take extra fuel for your gasoline powered SXS's? A generator capable of recharging the Brawley is not that big an Item to take along. The Brawley is not street legal and is going to require a strong trailer to take to the locations you are going to ride it (just like your SXS's) mounting a generator on the trailer is not a big job, and carrying the fuel for generators is just like taking extra gas for your conventional SXS's. Some of your concerns about the Brawley or any off road EV seem misplaced to me.
Using a generator for 8-12 or more hours to charge up an off road EV seems ridiculous. Not to mention if people don't have the quite inverter type generator it's going to be completely obnoxious to anybody within ear shot to listen to a generator all night long. Taking extra fuel to gas up a sxs is a cake walk. You can ride all morning, come back ti camp dump in a few gallons of gas and keep going all night long. At this point we don't know how long and far an EV can go. You might get a few hours of riding, but then you're stuck at camp for the rest of the day listening to your awesome generator all day and night so you can get a few more hours of riding the next day.

not sure about using it as a utv for mountain use but this thing would be a beast on the road.
Here's some good points to consider too. No locked rear diff. This thing will actually turn while still having 4 wheel drive. It won't eat up your grass and tires. Also, if they choose to support it, you could tank turn. That would be real nice rock crawling in some situations.

Yeah, I think it’ll be killer in the rocks but the weight will be an issue in the dunes. I don’t think you’ll be seeing it win any jumping competitions either. I’m betting it’s 4,000lbs + -Joe

Heavy yes but guys, think about the low CG.... The center of gravity will have this thing PLANTED in hi-speed turns!!

I was wondering this to. What's the weight of this thing?? It looks heavy in the video judging how it climbs, crest those dunes. It'll sink like a rock in the mud. Leather steering wheel?? LOL another item to be ruined by muddy, wet hands

Pros: Very quiet (UTVs are way too loud, and no manufacturer seems interested in quieting them). Four independent motors means great traction and handling (torque vectoring is awesome). No differentials and no belts means this will be very durable. And electric power is awesome. I drive a Tesla Model 3, and its performance characteristics can’t be beat. Also, a low center of gravity means less tipping and rolling.
Cons: How do you charge it on a multi-day trip? If your home base is a town, there are many options. But in the wilderness, you don’t; this is not the machine for that sort of thing. What will it cost to repair if you tip it? That may be a downside to this machine, but not to electric utvs in general. How can you work on it yourself? Honestly, there’s not much work that even needs doing. No oil changes, no clutches, no exhaust, no diffs, no belts. What accessories will there be? Based on my experience with my Tesla, I expect a very robust accessories market. I think this machine will be very popular with a lot of people who aren’t hardcore rock crawlers. People like me…
For me, the only con is the price. But it also looks like you get more machine for your money, so it’s not like it’s a bad value. It’s just a lot of money to spend on a toy. I would expect that in a few years, there will be many options for electric utvs. The advantages are just too good to ignore.
No charging stations in my area for 200 miles in any direction! We're not ready for electric cars.
Couldn't have said it better! So many people like to spend $10k-$20k on top of thier purchase price just getting upgraded suspension and all the upgrades that this thing will already come with.

@@allterrainrandy2587 standard home charging takes considerable more time, also be prepared for a higher electric bill. We are not ready for electric vehicles. We will be, but not for a while. Don't get caught up with the hate Fossil fuels movement
@@JJ-nh8lv there's a huge part of everyday that is an ideal time to charge. Generally from 10pm-6am. I'm not caught up in the hate fossil fuels movement, but I do know you can shut your garage door with your car running, and not be alive to open it 2 hours later. I have lived with an EV for 2 years already. So while you may not be ready, hundreds of thousands of people are. I still have an F150 for truck things, a Rover for off roading, and the Tesla for a daily driver. I bought it used, and have mostly made the payment with the money that was previously going to gas, literally burning out the tailpipe. My electric did go up by about $100 a month, but my fuel purchase dropped by about $500, and my maintenance by about $100. The Brawley will have some instances where it's not as good as gas, but for most of the time it's going to smash those other side by sides. It is far superior.
You guys are in for a big big surprise! This is an electric vehicle it is a totally different animal. Even in the suspension because of the weight of the battery and how it's distributed the suspension is totally different and will react differently.
Then there's the battery, there's a reason that Tesla's are far superior than any other electric vehicle. They have the battery technology behind them remember that word battery technology batteries are not as simple as putting in a couple of d batteries and calling it a day. The chemistry behind the battery is everything. Being that this is a small startup I doubt they have any kind of technology regarding the battery. So this thing has heat and air conditioning as soon as you turn those on you're 200 MI goes down to 100. Then it's 200 MI driving Miss Daisy. That means you're doing regular driving 35 to 55 mph. The point of this vehicle is to rip ass so as soon as you do that you're 200 miles drops to 100 turn on the air conditioning you got 80 maybe 50 miles left I would not purchase this vehicle without waiting for the reviews. And by reviews I don't mean the people that get the test ride it for free on CZcams and they sing the praises of the vehicle I mean real world seat of the pants driving.
Not trying to be a negative Nancy but this is not going from a Ford to a Chevy this is a totally different technology and the batteries are everything nothing else matters but that battery.
Ford, Chevy nor Vanderhall make their own battery cells. They all buy them from huge cell manufacturers; not make them themselves and all electric vehicles are fairly close in battery quality and longevity.
I want, but it is a bit too wide. Cuts out the majority of the trails around me. I have a xp 1000 and choose the narrow model for that reason. But I do like the idea of being warm and clean! Lol. I would be nice if it street legal, like a duel purpose of sxs'. You know, like a jeep! Lol. But I still want one!

Charging might not be that much of an issue. On the website it says with a DC charger it can attain an 80% charge in 1 hr???
I read an article about it today and loved it, but had all the same concerns that you expressed in the cons.
Just checked their website and apparently they've updated specs since this video...303 hp, 360 lbs ft and 140 miles per charge...ESTIMATED...Hmm
I believe they added a few more functions of the car as well.
Well, someone has to be the first to bring one to market. It’s interesting, I think it will attract a different segment of buyers. Not sure if that’s a good thing. I’m surprised on the one hand that it’s being made in Utah and the size and width of it. I feel that will be to its detriment. Much of the country does not have wide open spaces and trails are only a couple miles long. If it was correctly sized for that type of trail riding- it might take off. And then the 200 mile range wouldn’t be a factor. I think it will be a bust in Southwest Utah, parts of Arizona and places with wide open dunes for the exact reasons you stated. When to charge, how long to charge, etc along with the RV needs. We put a ton of miles on our cars in comparison to other places. Looks? Half Bronco, half X3- who do you ride with?
The million dollar question I guess would be “ if we get all the environmentalists to spend big money on an electric SxS- will they quit trying to take away access to public land?”

I like the idea of electric side by side as far as charging goes if you have one of those quiet generators you can charge all night with no problems at all
Or at a camp site, the RV outlet will work perfectly.
Buy an electric UTV and charge it, for who knows how long, with an internal combustion engine. Makes sense. Notice they don't mention the charge time using a normal 120v power source. Who has a quick, high output charge at the camp site or cabin??

@@stang1970 (Old thread I know but) Anyone that has grid power (at a cabin) has access to 240v. You just have to wire a 240v circuit and outlet off both legs in your panel rather than one side like the 120v circuits. Easy and cheap. Having a cabin with easy access to riding trails is an ideal scenario for these upcoming electric UTV.
I was looking into electric utv. It’s very cold where I live in the winter. You will suffer 50% mileage loss in cold temperatures. And it’s not good for the batteries to be stored in cold temperatures

Man after years of electric RC’s,I can tell you we have come a long way🕵️♀️I can tell you I have brushless motors that run $200 and can only imagine what those will cost to replace.That’s not even considering batteries when they go bad $$$
Good video, looks promising, not so concerned about the Con’s. I run in 125-175 mile desert races in the MORE series. Range should not be a problem to complete a race. Already have a generator in the RV & 1 on the trailer that can be used for charging. The E-motor & drivetrain are one unit, the torque is crazy, no broken axel or driveshaft to worry about. I’ll miss the loud exhaust. E-motors are a proven technology. After all they power prop’s on cargo ships, turn wheels on trains, cranes to lift heavy containers, winches to pull out stuck rigs, pump water to grow food, bring water to our homes so we can flush toilets, run our A/C, refrigerator, spin the washer & dryer, etc. We rely on E-motors for the major convenience’s in life more than we realize. The industry is moving in this direction, aftermarket suppliers will adapt. Laws in Cali are changing on how off road vehicles use BLM land. In 2022, new motorcycles & eventually UTV must reduce emissions. Only 1 of 4 models meet compliance. Existing bikes & rigs are grandfathered. Sad but that’s the new reality.
I just wonder what the real world range would be. And at what power levels and terrain. And like he mentioned in the video what and how much would it be to repair the drivetrain. There are now driveshaft or axles, but there are still shafts and bearings in that housing.
With 40-60kWh of battery, you’ll be doing good to get 50 miles off road in the sand. 200 miles would be 25-35mph on asphalt…if lucky.

@@allterrainrandy2587 23k for a 4 seat polaris rzr turbo out the door. It's hard to compare this with another utv, I mean they put ac in it. The issue lies in the very limited range and non existent recharging capabilities in the field. They added in all the bells and whistles to make this more appealing to an audience that doesn't actually do any off roading

U thank like i do ias wondering the same thangs bro. Its not like u can spend 5minutes filling up with gas grab couple dranks then hit the trail again. Yull plug it up go take a nap then if its charged enough you mite be able to finish yur ride if any charging stations show up? And the price come on i work fer a living i cant pay that kinda money my truck and rzr together wasnt that much.
The width is already a deal breaker for me anyways. We can only have 62 inches or less. Neat idea though!
That was my exact thought, that eliminates 75% of the places you could take it except for the dunes or truck/jeep trails.
There are 100's of thousands of miles of jeep and forest roads and out of the way places to ride here in the southwest....... You could ride everyday for your whole life and never see it all. My 21' pro xp can't ride on some trails here ( Utah) cus its too wide but i can load it up and go to co or nv or az and ride for as long you like or want. Its not for every rider...... NONE of the sxs's are!

I thought about that but once you add crush zones, airbags, and all the other required crap this thing would gain 600 lbs.
It will be considered a UTV and be able to be registered just like a RZR. The nice thing is it will come stock with all the stuff necessary instead of having to buy aftermarket stuff.
I don’t know much about electric cars , just fences but could you totally submerge it and keep driving wearing just a snorkel, or would you shock yourself and everyone else 🤔. Would be strange to see it flying past in silence too

This is an interesting design. But if it’s just a side by side, it’s to custom show piece for actual,serious off road bashing. And with its size, it would need to be street legal. This would be more of a Jeep Wrangler or Ford Bronco competitor. And it’s owing to come in a whole lot more expensive than what they are claiming.
I think it's absolutely beautiful looking. And 400 hp is pretty impressive as well. But that is just to much glass without even having any kind of protection for a possible rollover. I think they should have started out with a 74 inch wide and let the owner decide if they would want to bring it out any further. It's just gonna need some time out there doing it's thing before I would have a go at buying one. Like I always say. Let the really rich people drive them around and get all the bugs worked out. Lol. That thing does look like a beast, but exspensive from 35 to over 40k for a Utv, that needs charging. When I first saw pics I thought It was an On road Off Road vehicle. A lot Of money for something you have to trailer to the trail.
That starting price likely for a much smaller battery with maybe 80-100 mile range.

On the dunes this vehicle will get around 25 to 50 miles per charge.
Probably closer to 100 miles, or about the same as a gas powered one. Sand sucks power!
Naa, probably right, 25-50, there's not enough traction for the regenerative braking to be of any real benefit, the specs are probably for 1 rider, so fully loaded, cooler, folks with their device chargers plugged in, AC on, 25-50 is fair, and is not bashing it.
SOLAR POWERED👍🏼Avoid the headache of charging stations.
Do a little bit of math. Unless you have a large and not portable in any way solar structure this thing will take ages to charge on photovoltaics.
Here's another con. Their website says the price is subject to change without notice, and the deposit is non refundable. They're quoting stats on their top of the line model, but the 35k price is for their base model.
According to my rough numbers, my 2k watt generator would take 30 hours to charge it from 0.
I'm a big fan of electric, and I'd love to have a SxS that was quite on the trails, but I can't preorder under those terms.
I'd also like to know what it weighs. It looks pretty heavy in the videos.

No one takes the batteries when there dead and very hard to put out when on fire.
This is a knee jerk response. It’s the same kinda of response horse owners were make when gas cars came out. “ There’s no place to fuel them. I can graze my horse anywhere, etc. The batteries have many safety measures in place. Also gasoline is explosive and how many of those fires are there,? The batteries are already being recycled.
My nephew just asked if this could be street legal overseas in Saint Lucia. 😂🤣😂
I told him check the local laws and importation policies. It might be possible.
I work at Vanderhall and they are producing them.for world markets. They will have a right hand drive model as well. He may actually be able to own one there :)

Here in Arizona, my KRX1000 is street legal. So I would assume the Brawley would also be street legal here in AZ. I've really had it with the high rpm "scream" my KRX produces at all speeds over 20mph in high! Add in the cab heat on 100F days and the Brawley "might"??? be the ticket...Time will tell???

Well, this was going to eventually happen, Battery vehicles are going to take over the industry. But nothing out there right now can compete with gas for long hauls and reliability. maybe in the next 20 - 30 years the tech will improve and then we will have something worth investing in. But we all know the powers that be will force feed us what THEY think we need. Some advantages to battery is quietness, weight distribution, of course less of a impact on the environment. So bring it on...when its actually ready to be brought. For now, gas rules and it works...works very well. Very well.

Gas works well, sort of . Most of these machines are shredding belts like crazy, and needing an engine rebuild within 5k miles.

Belt on it, it's way better than any other belt.
20-30 years ? Wow I think that's an over statement, battery tech is catching up really fast. You have to trend the technology and based off current trends 6 years or less most EV's will have a range 800 plus. As a electrical engineer myself I am excited for the new advancements, and just my personal opinion weight is the current largest problems with any electric vehicle. Reduce weight requires less watts and heat.

Rushing and pushing new tech has never worked. The public must be on board. Bottom line is, unfortunately the bottom line. $$$
At that size and price just by a gas powered used jeep for 2500 and beat the snot out of it and when done do it again buy another one WAY TO BIG AND TAKES THE FUN OUT OF WHAT UTVING IS ALL ABOUT

Why wouldnt jt be? They already have a fully operational plant building the autocycles they sell. They arent building from nothing like the speed utv. Also, I work for Vanderhall. Specifically on the Brawley. It really is going to be awesome. Roll cage isnt thin like x3 or RZR's. Yes I could get some damage from abuse, but it all can be fixed or plastic replaced.

I was just looking at the electric polaris ranger, but now I'm considering this. I need the final price thou. I do love the design, just a bit wide for some trails.

Based on what I have read about the Jeep/rotor law suite, the rules they applied to the shape and look test will not apply here. The grill, hood shape, fender and body shapes all fall outside the trademarked look. This Brawley GTS has more 1997-2002 Isuzu Vehicross than Jeep CJ or Wrangler.
How far will it go on single charge . And in mud dirt sand play heck on gas how's that long term for all this stuff . And charging let's see we are camping out in no where no.electric

Just need a 100KW CAT generator mounted to your toy hauler or trailer so can fast charge your machine then everybody else's for a hundred bucks a pop lol
200+ miles will be flat easy driving. Cut it in half or more for off road.
If this was fully street legal they would sell like hotcakes otherwise it is an expensive toy.

This video was kind of a disappointment because you basically just pulled info from their website and regurgitated it here. I was hoping this would be ride review video, or at least show us something new. Did you try contacting the Manufacturer to get more detailed info on the specs. Kinda seems like you didn't even do that based on your weight guesstimate reply below. Guess I will have to make the call myself.

UTVs and ATVs are easily made street legal here in Arizona. Add a horn, rear view mirror, illuminate your license plate add insurance and your good to go!

If you carry a generator then your Gina have to carry gas cans full of gas so what’s the point there’s a place for electric like on a golf course or something but these people are destroying the one thing that makes us a great country this is like going back in time when trains needed wood and had to cut wood by hand to feed the train this has nothing to do with saving the planet it has everything to do with making cash and forcing people to buy there stuff because they destroyed the one thing that works and works great there just wanting there massive chunk of money from the transportation industry no more no less so let’s just let California go all electric for ten years and let’s see how that works out for them then we’ll talk

The reason I drive offroad is to be out in the environment if I wanted to be in a climate controlled jukebox then I guess I'm a yuppie poser. Just my opinion.

You hit it right with yuppy poser. Guaranteed nothing is water tight on these for 35k. You want a high hp dune cruiser then this is up your alley. These are yuppy street cruisers at best
I guess its just a different part of the environment that you can enjoy. Roll the windows down and open the sunroof, and also have peace and quiet. Hearing the rustling of the trees and the birds singing, and not smelling exhaust... I wouldn't say that is an inferior way to enjoy nature.

California year round riding. Hot cold rain or snow doesnt matter just ride.
