Your success in this game depends on pure luck as much as your playing skills. Enemies are often spawned randomly and they follow you everywhere. When you kill them, a new wave of them comes. Later in game almost all enemies are kamikaze and they explode when they are close to you. Tanks are also spawned randomly to some point. Thanks explode when they spend fuel(?!?).You lose all your weapon power-ups when you die so losing one life often mean that game is over for you. And all that happens at easy mode which is default one. Try play it on hardest if you dare.
Game starts to be hard when you came to water parts. In water you move slowly, floating mines follow you, enemies dive so you cannot shoot or bomb them and finally, if they don't kill you with bombs or bullets - they explode when close to you.
Still, game is nice and fun to play and two sequels followed it.
- UnHuman - - Hry
You know, after surviving a bullet hell like this, I can see why Ralph and Clark find participating in fighting tournaments against super-powered freaks to be rather relaxing.
After living through something like this, getting into fights with assholes like Geese Howard and Billy Kane must feel like a vacation.
I always heard about team Ikari being in SNK, and thought nothing of it.
And when I looked up their origins I always thought: "oh Ikari Warriors must be some obscure game".
But when I finally saw this gameplay on a whim. I never knew that it was THIS game. I always played this as a kid on Famicon, but never knew the title.
Holy Shit, damn Ralf and Clark are badass.
Yeah, KOF 94' wanted to represent their non-fighting game IPs as well, so we got Team Ikari, Team Psycho Soldier, and the absolute meme that was Team US Sports (referencing their sports games).
This is one of my favorite arcade games. If i ever owned a arcade machine in my home it would be this one.
Mine 2.. put tons of quarters in this one and Gauntlet
I had this one on my zxspectrum in 1989
Me too. Come on arcade1up - make it happen!
Mame is your friend
Most definitely 👍
kill everybody and destroy everything in your way from beginning to end. no main story, side quests or XP to be gained. Gotta love 80's video arcade games
And no loot boxes to buy
That was what was so great about em. No over complicated story, just wasting people. And taking a brake from the real world, for as long as the money lasted
Still wanna know the story behind the corpse at the end.
That's because of the limitations of technology.
This has to be THE most epic shooter I played in the arcades when I was a kid. I remember you had to turn the joystick to aim at different angles. Sometimes the joystick was defective so you had to learn to play without the full function of it. It was still fun blowing up them bad guys with the busted joystick. Hahaha
I was just about to post that one time I was so pissed off when I put my money in this game and then realised the joystick wouldn't turn properly.
The same company later released another game called "Time Soldiers" which was superior to this IMO. Both games were great though, of course.
The "rotating joystick" feature was used in other games too like Forgotten Worlds and Midnight Resistance. It was so frustrating finding these wheels broken by other users so you could only shoot in one direction... LOL!
Great memories guys! Thanks for the reminders! Cheers!
You blew bad guys' busted joysticks? Ew.
Why is Colonel Cook so fucking massive? I think he could've rescued himself :\
it was my best childhood best game on commodore 64 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Colonel Cook was so huge for funny react!!!!!
what good is it being a colonel if you have to rescue yourself
Just be happy his name is not Colonel Cock.
Totally enjoyable run! Thanks for much for the nostalgic fun.
This game was so hard that even the people at SNK back in the day regarded it as impossible to beat with a single credit.
While it is incredibly challenging, this game has an undeniable charm that I think neither the sequels, the ports or even Shock Troopers were able to match.
At lest 25 years since I've seen this! Thank you for the video. Frustration was the bread and butter that fueled these games!
I used to wear this game out at the arcade back in the day! Brings back some good memories.
Then Ralph and Clack join the king of fighter and later the metal slug team
and to think this is where they got their debut. awesome!
@@Abel-Alvarez Ralph actually debuted in TANK, which this game is the spiritual successor to
@@rushifellpainting4631 oh ok thanks for clarifying that. Wow these characters go WAY back.
Where the hell is Heidern
@@phatplateslyrical9045 Heidern is a original KOF character like Kyo.
You saved Giant Elmer Fudd!
+David Richard LOL
there is an abandoned/storage retail space around where I live. It's full of arcade machines inside and they have some of the arcade' s graphic front panels facing the street. One of them was Ikari warriors and I remembered borrowing it from my neighbor (for the nes) back in the late 80s. Then I looked this up.
man sure brings back memories.. remember some games would call this Rambo!me and my buddy use to skip school to play this.. get the B pow's haha!
Wow, I finally got to see the end, after so many quarters and years gone, those 1980s arcade days, time really does fly.
*When I saw general Cook, I thought "holy sheet, this is it, the evil giant boss to kill!"*
*Then...*
*"You have **_rescured_** general Cook..."*
*♪ womp womp wooooomp ♫*
amazingdany General Cook is pure evil.
YOU SAVE GENERAL ELMER FUDD
Yes, that's a challenge! Ikari Warriors! Congratulations, you deserve a medal!
I was looking into a lot of KOF development history (and especially its characters) and it's cool! I like how Clark's eventual King of Fighters design might have been inspired by the blue enemies. Also love how this feels like a proto Metal Slug. You play as a soldier character with a headband and a red color scheme, collect power ups that are symbolized by a big letter in a square, and drive tanks while killing barrage of soldiers. It's neat that they most likely later on used some of the same concepts from Ikari Warriors to Metal Slug.
And if that's the case, Ralf and Clark appearing in Metal Slug at times almost comes full circle.
Welp, SNK didn't developed the first MS game.
It Was a company named Nazca who developed the first one. But It Was close to bankrumpcy, So SNK Bought it and they gotten the rights over any license they has. Including metal slug. Which caught the attention of the public.
SNK later on launched sequels and formed It into The series we known and love.
With Some really awesome launches, other quite rushed, a couple spinoffs here and there That are either a hit or miss, and then There's Attack which Is a very complex and hard case.
You can tell i'm a MS freak.
@@JoanSlugXAkaJerkyBogard I like you!! I'm a MS freak too but don't know 100% of the history yet. So it's kinda coincidental then? Or maybe Nazca was inspired?
@@angelsartandgaming The story was still incomplete. Guess what, the Nazca people were actually arcade developers working at a company called Irem, until Irem's business went extremely down hill and they went independent to form Nazca. It was Irem that's in danger of collapsing, not Nazca. Actually, it's more like that the original Metal Slug to prove Nazca's worth, and helped them join SNK. After SNK's demise in 2000, the Nazca team disbanded with it.
Back to Metal Slug's lineage - the team later known as Nazca made a lot of arcade games while working for Irem, and their distinctive style was already established back then. Look up for some of their old works - Undercover Cops, In the Hunt, etc, and you'll be astonished by that Metal Slug-ish feeling. Among them, there's a game called 'Gunforce 2', essentially the direct ancestor of Metal Slug(There's of course a Gunforce 1, but 2 resembles MS much more). It's a run and gun game, with detailed pixel arts and upbeat music done by the exact same people, and already has a lot of game elements that are succeeded by Metal Slug.
@@angelsartandgaming Short version: Search up 'Gunforce 2' to witness Metal Slug's biological dad, and to know that why I consider Metal Slug more as an Irem game than a SNK game.
@@apocalypse930 I actually found out about that recently myself too as I got the full history book!!
The development history of the series is honestly interesting.
Brings back some memories. I started playing video games when the first black and white pong TV game came out
One of my all-time favorite arcade games and one of the most unique control schemes with the twisty knob!
Congrats TAS !! Thanks for finishing the game. Back in the 80s, after a thrilling accomplishment would it be time for mini golf? Racing? Batting Cage? Pizza and Soda? Current day with an emulator... time for a BEER.
The memory lane is so magic I can't even explain it. This speaks for itself.
After having only ever played the NES version, and finally seeing the arcade version, wow... HUGE difference in graphics quality!
And gameplay as well
The NES port is done by a company that's notorius for making shit quality games. Later, SNK handled the NES port of Ikari 3 and Guerilla War(essentially a clone of Ikara Warriors) themselves, and their quality are significantly better, might even be more fun than arcade originals.
The new Hideo Kojima version has you shooting everyone with paintballs.
I had this and played many hours each night on one of those old Tandy Computers that Radio Shack put out back in the 80's . Man , I miss playing this game !
omg after 30 years ive finally found the game me and my bro used to spend all the time playing this in a store.
Spent a boat load of quarters on this as a kid. I remember I got so good at it that people would stand around and watch me play it. Epic!!! Lol
I love that music! I have to say music like that was what inspired me to join band when I was in school.
Wow, excellent. Never made it to the end. Played a lot in arcades 89-91. Quarters spent =infinity and beyond
After this hell, fighting Orochi must be a walk in the Park
I remember shoveling 10p pieces into one of these with my buddy when we was 12 years old, we completed it and even had a small crowd gathered. After Ikari Warriors SNK released Victory Road and Heavy Barrel, both in the Ikari vein, we completed Heavy Barrel the second we clapped eyes on it, good days.
The rotating controller on the coin up was a really cool idea.
Hello, I played this game on arcade machines when I was young in the 1990s. Today, after watching your video, I understood the ending. 1000 likes!!!
Wow. You're really good at this. There were several times I thought you were toast for sure.
Also if you die near the end you might as well hang it up. Extra lives are useless without the power-ups. You lose all your power-ups when you die and it's nearly impossible.
This looks really good, I didn't know about the arcade version of this. They did not quite manage to convert this to the NES as well as they did with for an example Gunsmoke.
the NES port was ass
I would express my sincere. thanks to you. take good rest!
ド迫力のこの「爆破」ですよね。「怒IKARI」のアーケード版の面白さは!この爽快感が半端ないっす。
Epic Journey and Sound Track well some Everyone Involved In making this Happen ❤️
unforgettable memories..
What a difficult weird-ass game. That ending though
Never knew the name of this game until a few minutes ago when it all came back during the 101 NES games. Had just recently been searching for this game by describing the joystick turns xD
I can't believe you blew up the choppers you can commandeer. That's probably the most fun this game even has is stealing the tanks and the choppers.
The developers sure are fans of Rambo.
Beautiful soundtrack. It was in my head long time. Very long.
Warriors, come out to PLAY-Y-Y-Y-Y!!!!!!!
Amazing Sounds ❤
I've never been as far in this game. Thanks.
This game takes me back..... wow.
Ah missed this game. One of the few arcade games I was able to complete perfect without a single death. My favorite was deleting the enemy tank's cannon ball by just moving back enough to get them off screen.
One of my fav arcade games as a kid and I have this on my PS3. 👍
I've heard of this series, shit looks fun as hell!
dude's a boss. took me and my homey days.
The best version is the original arcade title, but the NES port is pretty good too. Probably the best thing is the co-op game play. There is also a memorable stage where all the enemies look like Player 1 and 2.
My goodness, this game brings back memories..
I believe those two characters are Ralf Jones (red) and Clark Still (blue)
I don't know if Ralf was based in that red guy, but Clark surely is based on the blue ones.
@@soleosfiles actually, Ralf's first appearance is in TANK
@@superdumper3840 Oh, i searched for it and it is
Yes. That is Ralf and Clark.
URYA!!!
I miss places having arcade games everywhere. It was always great to be at a store or at a laundry mat bored out of your mind and see this or Strider or OutRun. Lucky to have a mom that was cool and always throw a few bucks to me. Always the same, she put a few dollars of quarters in my hand, "Make it last..". I miss the dark corners of stores that would just be a dark room with a bunch of random games that always changed.
A small dump of a casino called the Barcelona in North Las Vegas had this game. Would go in there all the time to play this. Or over to the Motel 6 lobby down the block and play the Play Choice Machine just to see how much I could play of ninja gaiden (nes) on a buck. Did that for a week just to annoy the clerk.
I loved the arcade version.
the origins of kof
"Congraturations"...
lol the Colonel looks like a restaurant mascot.
This game was hard AF. As a kid i saw so many give up even with a stack of coins
the theme song is amazing! turn it up!!
Still watching this because I remember this memory of this game
Loved loved this game
Heidern : Soldier
Ralf, Clark, Leona : YES SIR
Wip
The local arcade had this game. The cabinet had a glass top that showed a miniature jungle scene with a crashed plane and a mini Rambo. I played it many times and never got to beat it. I read somewhere that "someone special will greet you" when you reach the end. I figured President Reagan would be the one congratulating you. Alas, it was not meant to be.
Loved these kind of fames when I was a kid...and an adult. 😅 As well as Jackal!
Why does the tank blow up if it runs out of gas? Hope the same thing never happens to my car!
the bain of my childhood made my moms crazy too (on NES ) first game i ever owned i can't believe someone can dominate this game like u are (takes a lot of practice)
somehow, the extremely bright red and blue colors of this game made it attractive....
BRILLIANT PLAY!!
That victory was a work of art in itself. I couldn't even get past the first level of Russian Attack..
This game was made by SNK? The same company that made King of Fighters Fatal Fury and Metal Slug?.DAMN
Yup and this is Ralf & Clark's first game
Yes, and Ralf and Clark who appear in both King of Fighters and Metal Slug, appeared first in this game.
LAVA FALCON and NEO GEO too
SNK had some of the very best arcade games of the late 1980's.
Yeah, this and psycho soldier are by far the best SNK games of the 80’s. Also can’t forget Vanguard, one of their earliest games to be released in America.
I Cant wait to play this on the Switch.. Really looking forward to Guerilla War tho.. It would be nice if we could also get Jackal one day.. and off the subject it would be awesome to get turtles 2 arcade on the Switch..
Finally I found this game, I knew it exist !!!!! I knew it !!!!!
Been looking for it also
Is There A downloadable version of this?
It's coming to the Switch part of the SNK Collection with Guerilla War
@@shawnzodakhisstank3164 Does the Switch version allow for dual-thumbstick aiming controls? Or is character rotation mapped to buttons?
I remember playing this game on my Amstrad 6128 back in1994! Along with an another player, Great!
The soundtrack is amazing.
He knows that game!
Congraturation. Seriously, it reads "congraturation."
Man I used to play this nearly every day as a kid and I've never seen most of what's in this video. LOL.
Very good 1c longplay :-)
well this brings back memories.
Rocking sound track💥🔥😎
Get the red grenades and let the killing begin. This game and Super Sprint my favorites. Thanks the memories, b4 all I thought of was mammories
Muito viciado. Show de bola.
I loved this game when I was a kid.
This game was a blast! The 8-bit home computing versions not so much.
Tht was a boss performance :-)
This game used to frustrate the bell out of me....
1m7y When I recorded this, I couldn't pass the game with one coin so this was TAS video (Tool Assisted). I used save state option within MAME :) But occasionally playing this game for last two years I learned it and managed to beat it without dying (check other video for Japanese version of game, link is in the description). Secret is that you need to be aggressive in some parts of game. Thanks for watching!
OneCoinArcade You technically Died, The end was a bad spot to put a game over message, The End sign, Don't hold the game over music. Too bad Time travel doesn't exist right now.
Muy bueno, ese lo jugaba saliendo del colegio muy niño muy niño jejeje =^_^=
I used to love this game. It's amazing how far graphics have come. I remember when that was state of the art graphics and the PC version sucked.
This was one of those games that I played and the volume was almost to the max. It glitched while I played and the graphics were displaced and invincibility kicked in. Happened only once.
Classic. This, Spy Hunter and Dodgeball, my favs.
This Spy Hunter and Gauntlet for me. Those damn ghosts you could waste through a crack in the wall .
Spy Hunter was hard
Man i remember a big general Office and that was it the end, no end text Nothing, never got an ending on this game or have i mixed it upp With metal gear maybe??? Plz confirm :)
I just love the the music in the game
Great Warriors 😇
Nice dodge from grenades and missiles!!!This game is only best play with Arcade rotate joystick!!
Right On!
Yes. Only arcade version was any good. All the home versions sucked.
anyone remember another run n gun that launched after ikari but there were mission in space and not only many type of guns but also has longsword (it can shoot from sword tip) , cannot remember it name.
My fav arcade game ever!
Gondomania, Time Soldiers, and Avengers also used the same control scheme as this. All are good games.
