- Here's a commercial for the hand-held puzzle game Alexander's Star by Ideal. This was one of the Rubik's Cube follow-ups made to keep cashing in on that fad.
This aired on local Chicago TV on Wednesday, September 15th 1982 during the 4:30pm to 5:00pm timeframe.
About The Museum of Classic Chicago Television:
The MCCTv (FuzzyMemoriesTV) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit whose primary mission is the preservation and display of off-air, early home videotape recordings (70s to early 80s, mostly) recorded off of TV (in Chicago or other cities now too); things which would likely be lost if not sought out and preserved digitally. If you have any old 1970s videotapes recorded off of TV please email: tapes@fuzzy.tv Even though (mostly) short clips are displayed here, we preserve the entire broadcasts in our archives - the complete programs with breaks (or however much is present on the tape), for historical preservation. For information on how to help in our mission, to donate or lend tapes to be converted to digital, please e-mail tapes@fuzzy.tv Thank you for your help! - Zábava
I remember it. I may have had one. I collected a lot of those Rubik style puzzles in 1982-83. I only recall solving a couple of them. But I was around 7 at the height of the fad.
I remember the pyramid. Pyraminx?
I still have Alexander's Star & Pyraminx, along with all of the other popular puzzle games of the era. The Pyraminx was always the easiest one to solve (for me).
Wow where was I at when this came out, I don't remember it at all 🤔
I remember wanting one of these so bad!
"Please don't watch Alexander's Star Wars!"
I had Ideal's famous Rubik's Cube and the not-so-famous Missing Link. Never heard of Alexander's Star but it looks challenging.
Don’t pick up Azura’s Star either.
From Magilla Gorilla
"They're wonderful toys... they're IDEAL"
( get it)
😉
There were several other Rubik-like puzzles, including "Whip-It" and "Missing Link."
Missing Link was also by Ideal. I don't remember who made Whip-It, but it was basically just an easier version of Missing Link. Edit: Oh, LJN made Whip-It.
I don't remember this commercial at all, even though I owned one. I didn't realize this was by Ideal (who owned the Rubik's Cube rights at the time). I never solved it.
Who's the actor? He looks familiar.
He was in a bunch of '80s TV and film, but I can't remember his name
Just take the stickers off and move them. Wait, that's not the solution?
As someone named Alex, I must agree: hands off my star, dude 😂
It was easier than a Rubik's.
Just goes to show you; every time you tell them don't, they will. Why? People don't like being told what they can't do.
Reverse psychology.
Don’t tell me what I can’t do.
@@edrice2621 Still it begs the question; what's the point of selling a toy you don't want anyone to play with?
@@williamcrowe2576 I don't know. 🤔
Wow for some reason that sounds so Satanic to me for some Reason. Hahahahahaha 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Rubik’s ripoff
