REST IN PEACE 😭😭 im 23 years old and i was raised on rock and roll. Jack Russell is one of the greats. You will be missed dearly. Your music will never die !
RIP Jack!!! THANK YOU for all the great music and memories. You never lost the voice! Your music and story has inspired so many, including me, and will live forever!
The stick toss at the end was spontaneous and purely out of frustration after playing the song 30 times in a row. The camera following the stick was completely serendipitous. As a result, that take became the final take. I thank you all sincerely for your appreciation and patronage. I've never taken it for granted. I will always be grateful for you. -Gary Holland
Saw them with Judas Priest. Made it 30 minutes into school the next day before being sent home for "disruptive attire". Bought the Stick it shirt. Good times.
Now this is the Great White that I remember and love ❤️ my friend Mark introduced me to their music back in the early 80’s. Come to find out they’re local boys from Whittier California. Originally known as Dante Fox. Hadn’t heard this song in years. Right away I remembered the lyrics. Sadly after the Station fire in 2003 this band was never the same. Definitely heartbreaking 💔 and sad how many fans and even their own guitarist Ty Longley died. Now I believe there is 2 versions of Great White. One with Jack Russell & one with Mark Kendall. This video brought me back to my teenage years 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵
If Jack Russell had Bon Jovi or Winger looks he would have been one of the biggest rock stars ever. What an amazing voice! Could go from Halford screams to Plant wails to Vince Neil type punkish aggression, bluesy to a soft head voice on ballads all while still sounding like himself. And a side note, the chick in the blue swimsuit is wife material
Kick ass!!! The very first song that I ever heard from them, which made me a fan. They opened up with this song, when I had seen them live in '85 at the Arlington Theater in Santa Barbara, Ca, It was a sold out show, and Y&T and Helix were also on the bill. All 3 bands blew the roof off of the place! This song was even used on the 2nd "Harold & Kumar" flick. It's awesome to know that true rock is timeless:)
You SHITASS, LUCKY DOG!)) I BET IT WAS EPIC BADASS TO THA BONE!!!! I just recently as of last few years REALLY TURNED ON TO THIS CUT?!? RESONATES DOWN TO MY SOUL.... I was a LITTLE behind the REAL PLAY IN THAT ERA OF TIME, BUT THE FELLOWS LAY IT DOWN. SOLID.
I know what you mean, bro. I'm from that era myself. I played in a lot of L.A. metal bands in the 80s and this tune pretty much captures the standard most guitarists went for.
Super song by a band that was dead and gone Y-E-A-R-S ago.Great White actually made one real METAL album, and I LOVE it!!!! This record rocks. If you don't have it,GET IT,NOW!!!!!!
Me and my friends and all the pretty women we met at Great White concerts back in the day sure had a whole lot of fun. You had to be there. Glad we were.
met this band in 1984...my roomates Jeff & partyman where school friends with them they invited me to this taping for MTV.. but i went to the beach instead...lol.. Jeff gave me a demo tape from them when i moved back to washington..(1985) 9 months later they hit it big time...!!!! ROCK & ROLL
I saw them play these songs when they opened for Judas Priest - Defenders of the Faith - MAY 1984 Long Beach Arena in California. Love their raw sound!
I was in Manhattan Beach in a pool hall , Mr. Pockets and it was about a week before my 21st B day but i had altered the day on my physical Drivers license ( they used to be some kind of paper not plastic like now)to read the day i was in the beer pool hall . Well , dude at the bar refused to honor it and said it was obviously altered. The whole time me and the bartender argued for my legalness to be in a bar drinking beer, some Great White was playing on the juke box. It was Stick it. There were two guys playing on a table in the far corner and one was singing along but way louder to Stick It. Jack Russel and the other was the guitar player from LeatherWolf. After the song they both looked over and saw me arguing and came over to see wtf. Jack wound up not only talking the bartender within seconds to serve me the beer but bought it for me for my 21st B day, which i later told him wasnt till next week and he thought it was cool and we laughed together and bullshitted for another beer and everyone bailed. The very next day i found out Great White was playing that night at some dinky record store in Hermosa Beach for some promotional thing and guys from Stryper were there and some other guys from unsigned bands. They Played one song, Stick it and it was loud as fuck and at the end where he screams long all the way to the end and loud af, he was bent over backwards so far his hair was almost hitting the floor and when he came up face all red ended the song . That was some good shit back then what I'm saying... Original drummer and shit. Saw em like a week later at Fenders Ballroom in down town Long Beach, a little bigger place but still small and the stage riser was only like two feet high and they did like five of their songs from their EP. On Your Knees , Stick It and couple the other ones. My friend s and I got fucked up and the bouncers threw my friend Jay out after he got on the stage with the band like five times . The show was loud af and slight mayhem did occur both on the stage and out side in the alley behind the ballroom. Anyway, I thought I'd share some fun and funny times and shit. Peace....
I bought a Great White Greatest Hits album the other day from Amazon's MP3 store, and the opening track was this one, one I haven't heard since 1984 and forgot all about until now. Excellent heavy metal track that got overshadowed by Great White's more commercial and blues-influenced sound on successive albums. I like the Once Bitten Twice Shy phase, too, but this song represents the epitome of Great White to me.

Saw em open for Judas Priest in 84. Such an epic show. I met Jack in 89 in Phoenix at Studio West. He was so down to earth. Just a humble person.
Cranking the metal, busting the plant. They want to catch us. Betcha they can't. R.I.P. Jack truly one of the best.

Trying to find the cd of it now.... not an easy feat!
Thanks for all the great music! 🎵🎶🥁🎸🤘🙏
Same. Man these kids today just don't make music as good as they did in the 80s.
Gary, you have unique talents behind the kit... Thank you for contributing to the soundtrack of my life!!
Hell yeah Gary, this is and will always be my favorite Album. Played 3 cassettes into dust listening to you pound the sticks.
Mark Kendall is one of the greatest heavy metal guitarists ever. Stupidly underrated. He's a total legend
Agreed very talented axe man that never got the recognition he deserved just like warren demartini

This first album was incredible…They went so soft after it!..
I remember hearing this on Metalshop on the radio and went out and bought the cassette. Still rocks after all these years.

Damn that had to be an epic show.
A great song with classic raw metal guitar and fine vocals!
I miss the heavy, flatpicked rhythm of old school metal.

LYRICS
The old man told me, hey, you make a choice
You can make the music and stop all your noise
Or you can get out and find your own way
I told him stick it, my rock's here to stay
No, no, I can't live without it
No, no, it just ain't the same
No, no, ain't no doubt about it
No, no, oh so rock me again
I want to roll it and burn it all night
Me and my chevy don't stop for no lights
Cranking the metal, blasting the plant
They want to catch me, bet you they can't
I'm out on the road, and I'm rocking, stick it, stick it
I'm out on the road, there's no stopping, stick it, stick it
I'm out on the road, and I'm rocking, stick it, stick it
I'm out on the road, and I'm gone
I'm out on the road, and I'm rocking, stick it, stick it
I'm out on the road......
