in 5e he is a lesser deity, 5e just also gives us stats revolved around him pre-godhood
My Guess is Vecna will try to take over Sigil.
Fantastic video! It's eye-sill-cross btw.
In SpellJammer the Obelisk is a random encounter. It just says you encounter a strange Obelisk of unknown material
I was just about to comment this, thank you for putting this more eloquently than I could stranger
Complete description is, written in on page 7 of Boo's Astral Menagerie, or the second-from-the-left panel of the Spelljammer: Adventures in Space Dungeon Master's screen, under "Astral Encounters", on the "Astral Sea Encounters" d100 table, on a result of a 48-50, you enconter a "Gargantuan floating crystal obelisk of mysterious origin". Hope this helps!
Is it like the black monument/obelisk thing from 2001: a space odyssey?
If the characters are able to break it open they’ll find 3 poorly written and incomplete tomes and manuals that would normally increase an ability, but sadly fall short of usefulness.
Oooh actually I do remember an adventure where something horrible could happen if you messed with an obelisk, I believe it was for a convention
It doesn’t surprise me that there’s one in Wildemount, considering that Vecna was in Exandria at one point and Arkhan came to Exandria to get the hand and eye.
Vecna can actually be found in the PHB. In appendix B he's listed as the god of evil secrets in the Greyhawk pantheon. That doesn't say much about his status in the Forgotten Realms, though. I love the idea of a lich ascending to godhood then being defeated only to start his rise again. It's kinda fitting that he ended up in Ravenloft, even though it didn't last that long.
I personally hope that we will get an adventure with two infamous antagonists that vie with one another: Vecna and Azalin.
Imagine an adventure based around whether or not you fight both sides, join one, or try to play both sides. After all, both escaped their own Domains of Dread, and their current whereabouts and schemes are unknown.
Planescape: Shadow War of the Lich-Kings.
It should be noted that in Exandria (Critical Role World) the first Campaign ended with Vecna ascending to godhood and getting banished behind the Divine Gate (A special barrier designed by the gods to prevent any gods from entering the material plan) so it is possible that Vecna's ascension to godhood there could have implications for the rest of the realm since Exandria is now a canon world.
I mean, technically every D&D campaign ever ran is "canon"...even our real world is canon to D&D.
@@Sammo212 You know what I mean though. WOTC isn't taking all of our campaigns into account when making story decisions, it just so happens that since the source book for Wildemount was released after campaign one finished, all of the Vecna stuff is in an official DnD world, so they can tie it to other "official" dnd worlds like Greyhawk and Fearun.
@@jacobbabson6786if you mean the CR Vecna stuff then I guess. Vecna already has plenty of ties to Greyhawk and as far as I'm aware hasn't had his deity status revoked and is listed as a god there in the 5e books, so not sure what his ascension in Exandria will do to a greater god in Greyhawk.
I'm impressed with your ability to remember a D&D Direct from 20 years ago.
I too remember it just like it was yesterday.... or rather, last month. 😅😅😅
doh!
Dragonlance: Shadow of the Dragon Queen -
"The funerary obelisk of Wakenreth-“House of Silence” in Elvish-was constructed by Silvanesti elves in the Istarian city of Onyari shortly before the city took flight. The tower served as an emblem of peace between the people of Istar and Silvanesti. However, as with all of Onyari, Wakenreth met a tragic end, and it’s now haunted by the spirits it used to keep safe. Dalamar is unaware Wakenreth was once part of the City of Lost Names-he knows only that Silvanesti writings speak of a magical tower rising from the wasteland."
"Atop the floating island, a slender, gray obelisk rises nearly two hundred feet above the surrounding plaza. Four graceful flying buttresses curve up the tower’s entire height, and crystalline windows punctuate its summit. At the tower’s base stands a single stone door. Four hulking draconians guard the door, while armored dragonnels and their riders circle above."
notion has been a game changer not just for DM planning, but also for everything else in my life.
Next time you're giving a history of Vecna and the hand and eye I think it would be great to mention their true original inspiration - Michael Moorcock's eternal champion series, specifically the Hand of Kwll and Eye of Rhynn.
Looking forward to running the new phandalin adventure with my OG 5e group.
If Wizards fails to deliver on the obelisk agenda, you should totally make 3rd party documents to expand things for DM's. I'm already adding clues for my current LMoP game that just started this weekend.
I got something if they don't.
you already know they will fail but you don't want to admit it
They hire employees called "cultural consultants" to make everything "not racist", but this backfired as Wizards are afraid to do anything creative for fear they might take things in an offensive direction.
This obelisk kind stones appear in pieces on the last live stream of inquisition incorporated, mentioned affecting time and vision. aaaaaand, aaaand, this episode was in greyhawk, where this all started
Others have pointed it out, but while it isn't technically a written part of Light of Xaryxis itself, but instead a random encounter, there is one that has a theoretical minimum 3% chance of being in Light of Xaryxis, as in chapter 7 of the aforementioned adventure module, you are indicated to roll at least once on the Astral Sea Encounters table, making it possible to encounter an Obelisk, of a sort.
The complete description is, written in page 7 of Boo's Astral Menagerie, or the second-from-the-left panel of the Spelljammer: Adventures in Space Dungeon Master's screen, under "Astral Encounters", on the "Astral Sea Encounters" d100 table, on a result of a 48-50, you enconter a "Gargantuan floating crystal obelisk of mysterious origin". Hope this helps!
In Saltmarsh there's a a
potential Obilisk but very ligtly. There are standingstones on an island just off the coast of the town. An evil cult sacrificed & bound a Siren into it. She's in there but undetectable which seems like similar magic to what bound the Nalfeshne in ToA & the Coatuls in SKT & Rime.
Other little bits I've collected are Manshoon loosing his left hand in under-mountain in Dragonheist. I also think Golden Vault's Book of Vile Darkness quest could be important.
After your direct (quite a while ago) I have been incorporating obelisks in each of my campaigns. I love the idea of them scanning the players so that, in case of Vecna's return, they are summoned again from different timelines to fight evil back as champions. The neat part is that they "new parties" will be made up of characters from various ages
Same. I've added things to make them interesting.
the gods in cr didnt destroy aeor bc of their hubris, but bc in the midst of the calamity the wizards of aeor made a weapon to kill the gods, iirc its name translated to smth like 'gods hammer' which i think is a pillars of eternity ref
You're on the ball! Excellent investigative journalism!! Sincerely! Jorphdan, the PH was silent until now!
Imagine if Vecna made an appearance in Baldur's Gate 3, that would be so much fun !
I'm suspicious of Withers.
fun for who tho?
i think withers is either jergal or kelemvor@@FallenRingbearer
Thanks for keeping up with these obelisk videos - I'm very intrigued to see how this plays out with the new adventure.
The only mention of obelisks I've found in Dragonlance: Shadow of the Dragon Queen don't appear to be related to your obelisks. One is an elven funerary obelisk ("an emblem of peace between the people of Istar and Silvanesti," but now "haunted.") The second is a full-on tower that is only referred to once as an "obelisk" in the flavor-text box.
Hey Jordan,
There is no Obelisk in Call of the Netherdeep (I am currently running the adventure).
However, in Critical Role Campaign 1 (Vox Machina), the heroes were able to "permanently seal away" Vecna (see link 1 below).
During the tail end of that battle, a guest PC (played by actor Joe Manganiello) named Arkhan (the Cruel) was able to obtain the Hand of Vecna and teleport away (see link 2 below).
That same character ended up playing a role in Descent into Avernus (short version to avoid spoilers), linking Critical Role's Exandria to the Forgotten Realms.
So, with that, we have an Obelisk in Exandria (as part of Eiselcross - pronounced Ice-L-Cross), linking CR to FR as well as an actual character "hopping" universes, also linking the two.
As a "critter" since day one, I am very curious and excited to see, where this is going in the future.
Best

I remeber 1 year ago or so, I saw yout first video about this topic and I started my 4th d&d group wirh my nephew and some friends.
It was a good inspiration. This group is still running. Thank you for your vidoes.
The ambiguity as to the current FR year is deliberate on WotC's part. It's designed to allow individual FR campaign settings to utilize the different published adventures in different combinations, mixing and matching as the DMs and their players see fit. And to the extent which the timeline is important to their game (some DMs out there don't worry about the timeline at all and more power to 'em).
In my own ongoing FR campaign, we're currently in DR 1492 as of the last day the characters were on the Material Plane before traveling to Avernus. The gods only know what the year will be when they return. The year of the events in Out of The Abyss was DR 1486. etc.. Your timelines will of course be different from mine.
Eiselcross is pronounced like, "Ice-ell-cross". You pronounced Aeor correctly.
Found a second obilisk in Wildemount, Xhoras, Brokenveil March
See the adventure Unwelcome Spirits, location B6 in the Brokenveil March
Always informative- thanks. This metaplot around FR is pretty much the only thing keeping me on the WotC wagon. Old Realms fan here, so seeing things going in this direction is inspiring. Great research!
The awesome moment when Jorphdan is proven right and your past video is on point. Cheers brother. I'm all ears! I hope to adventure with you one day soon. Now back to the epic video!!!! Shalom
Love me some Jack Vance, highly recommend his Lyonesse trilogy, esp for players or DM's who want classic fey and cray cray sorcerers. Also a real world tint that vibes really well with Midgard campaign setting from Kobold Press. I especially love his menus of what folks eat, often over a paragraph, then describes a major battle in two sentences. Refreshing.
Love your videos! It's really helped me understand the Forgotten Realms beyond the Drizzt and Elminster books!
Thanks! Glad to hear it!
Hey @Jorphdan there’s another very important and canonical link in both Critical Role and the Forgotten Realms specifically dealing with Vecna.
I think you know this but you may have forgotten since you didn’t mention it, but during the climax of the first campaign (spoilers) Joe Manganiello as his character Arkhan the Cruel was present. Upon defeating Vecna, Arkhan disparted the Xandrian Vecna of his artificious and eponymous appendage and stole it away back to the Forgotten Realms.
Prior to that event and it’s subsequent canonizing in BG:DiA the Hand of Vecna (and his presence therein) had been effaced from the Forgotten Realms. I think it makes sense that as vestige of the Xandrian Vecna, His subsequent influence in the forgotten realms (especially if the upcoming story is multiversal) would indicate that the Vecna who will be featured in the upcoming adventures will actually be of Xandrian origin or possibly possess a hybrid limited omniscience of both Multiverses in a way reminiscent of dragons in the recent Fizban’s lore.
Also more subjectively the recent art of Vecna we’ve gotten kinda screams Critical Role to me~ ;p
Yes more obelisks. Thanks for keeping us up-to-date.
Would Vecna coming to Toril create a power vacuum in Greyhawk? If so who would fill that void? Could Kyuss travel to Toril to help the heroes stop Vecna only to seize power himself?
The gods can project influence on multiple worlds, and send multiple avatars to multiple places - a form of multi-tasking. They're not limited to a single physical location because of their ability to create avatars, and their ability to send power to priests across multiple worlds.
the 7 named obsidian obelisks are located across the coastline with exception the one in menzoberranzan and the wildemount one. I believe the point is to reset the Realms back when Vecna had all parts of his body (lining up with the statblock and statue release) and this will cause a chasm across the Sword Coast where the obelisks are (similar to the chasm beneath Hawkins in Stranger Things).
I'd like to see if Wizards had Vecna set up before Stranger Things decided to have him as the main antagonist or the other way around.
Oh boy.
I love the idea of strange stones with mysterious histories and/or writing.
It's why I love the poneglyphs in the anime/manga One Piece.
Eiselcross: “ice” + L + “cross”
This refers to a group of frozen islands which are sparsely inhabited north of Wildemount. In the Forgotten Realms it would be similar to Icewind Dale, except to reach it you need a special boat that can pass through the half-frozen ocean.
In the age of worms storyline, the spellweavers (6-armed monstruous humanoids) explain to Kyuss how to make a monolith with which he becomes The Worm that walks, no necessarelly an Obelisk, but if they appear on the next module, it could be related. Though this is third edition lore.
In one of the sample maps at the back of the DMG there is a map with a shattred black obelisk. As far as i know the map is completley stand alone, but it is technically the first apperance of a black obelisk in 5e
You are doing gawds work my man on the Obelisks. I'm looking through old texts to see what other secrets lie in past.. FORGOTTEN REALMS.
I know its not much but in The Sword Cost Guide, Venca is able to be a patron of the Undying Warlock. I feel its very much like Tharazdun, (spelling?)who was only mentioned in Mordenkainen's but also hinted at via PotA.
I hope they interact with each other!
Vecna is also mentioned in the DMG as a Dawn War pantheon god, fyi. Nice job !
Vecna is such A interesting character, and the lore intrigued me. If there's some vecna doodoo happens in The Forgotten Realms (my favorite setting) then I will BE THERE
Vecna is currently a thing in DDO as well. The last expansion (though DLC would be more accurate a term) established a cult of Vecna on Eberron, and the next one will involve him as a big bad.
I have yet to find any reason to be excited for the next edition of DnD. ESPECIALLY after the OGL madness. I am only now starting to watch videos addressing class changes(none yet that are positives). Thanks for going through all these Jorphdan. This is the first thing that has given me any reason to care about the next edition.
There’s also an obelisk in the mini adventure Dead in Thay
I have been running a campaign where my party is group of Drow noble men in Menzoberranzan who stumbled into a black obelisks and learned that they are ancient Netherese Mythallar created as a tool for war against Phaerimm. They have ability to alter weave and change the way magic works and Lolth with the help of her priestesses want to use them to take magic away from arcane casters and boost divine casters while the party is trying to do the opposite. It's been a campaign going on for a long time and your original videos of the Obelisks sparked me the idea.
I get the impression that Curse of Strahd was written before they knew what they were doing with the obelisks beyond just having them as an Easter Egg, since there are a number of unknown megaliths throughout Barovia.
If you watched the recent greenwood interview about candlekeep, he refers to vecna, says he is in the Realms apparently, but he would be in trouble if he says more
In van richtens guide to ravenloft vecna is mentioned in a paragraph about kas' domain of dread tovag..
It might be one of the most informations 5e had to offer about vecna
Sometimes I wish my DM-Friends were more into DMing prewritten adventures. I am curious about the Vecna Module next year, although I'm DMing the Doomed Forgotten Realms AP from DMG, AND the homebrew Campaign of one of my DMs uses Vecna as well. Oh well, maybe I'll just read it for some more inspiration once it releases.
Should be noted with the netherese, a while back eric boyd released a pdf on dmsguild that expanded Jergal's origin and made him the last spellweaver (which was a theory for a long time).
Hey, this is exactly what I wanted to watch!
I am not surprised by Critical Role being part of the Obelisk Conspiracy, as they are pretty much the reason Vecna came back into the gaming Zeitgeist. I find it interesting that they have been picking up so much of what Eric Boyd created for the Spellweavers in 2E and 3E, particularly in light of Eric's DMs Guild publication a few years ago expanding on the lore and revealing that Jergal was a spellweaver; Jergal was of course the original Lord of the End of Everything in the Realms until he seemed to willingly give up his portfolio to Bane, Bhaal, and Myrkul. Vecna's role in 4E was constantly battling the Raven Queen and Orcus to become ruler of the shadowfell and lord of the dead, so it does not seem surprising that he is still seeking that power in some way after his canonical defeat and banishment from Exandria.
I'd put miney on it being tied to the launch of the next edition. It wouldn't even be the 1st time. Back during the switch from AD&D 2nd ed to 3rd edition, the in-game explanation for all the chaos and changes was that Vecna, as a god of secrets, had found a way into Sigil. This is a pretty big no-no for deities, and finding a cheat code into the literal lynchpin of the multiverse gave Vecna a short window of time to basically rewrite reality.
This was the in-lore reason for all the changes.
Wayfarer Nomadic Realms Looks very nice, i love it
Having read the Doomed Forgotten Realm settings in DMG, and watched Matt's version of Vecna in CR, I'm looking forward to how Chris portray this BBEG and his world of drakness.
Any 3:32 any relation to spellweavers that were featured in Age of Worms? I know you have a video on Kyuss.
good stuff mister ty ty!
Zagig had an Obsidian Black Obelisk!
How do I get access to the Obelisks in 5e notion page? I don't see it in any of the links.
vecna was critical roles final boss in campaign 1 I believe so if the obelisks are tied him the could be why its in wildemount
Didn't Storm King's Thunder reference a black obelisk that the Cloud Giants coveted and stole away because it was an artifact of Astoria and could entrance and capture dragons?
Is there any way you could link to your page so I can read throw them all please?
Theory; the Obelisks act as 'dream antennas' between worlds. We have Obelisks on Earth carved with machine level intricacy with Egyptian hieroglyphs and the original humans on Toril came from Earth. Therefore, we here on Earth have dreams of adventurers and play out those dreams in this game we call D&D. The folks on Toril and any other D&D world might also have dreams about massive concrete cites, strange self propelled horseless chariots and magical communication tablets people keep in their pockets. Their purpose is to connect civilisations throughout the universe, like a spiritual internet.
I doubt this counts, but tales of the waning portal has a candidate: The Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan location 7
The monument is constructed from several parts. A great stone slab, 20 feet long by 10 feet wide, rests upon a 4-foot-thick monolith of rock of similar dimensions, and this, in turn, is supported by six huge blocks of dolomite. Every component has been covered with intricate carvings and glyphs. The top of the slab depicts a struggle between a dark-skinned man and a mighty, knotted serpent.
The critical role wildemount guide would make sense since Vecna was the BBEG of campaign 1 and his follower delilah briarwood is heavily present in campaign 3
Have you been keeping up with Baldur's Gate 3? It's meant to be a follow-up to Descent into Avernus and it's coming out next month. Would be interesting to see if it is referenced in there too.
If I’m not mistaken wasn’t Acerack also a disciple/student of Vecna?
In my home game of ToA I have Acerack using the Soulmonger as a conduit for Vecna to return to godhood
Seems like it's only for Forgotten Realms outside of maybe a reference in Wildemount. Either way since I skip or retool FR books to not be set there, can't say I ever noticed the obelisks until your videos and then forgot about them until the direct in 2003, I mean 2023.
Is there any specific reason why not all published adventures are categorized in the "has Obelisk" and "doesn't have Obelisk" ?
I am missing Waterdeep Dragon Heist for example, i'm pretty sure there is no Obelisk in it, but just for completion.
I thought there was an obelisk in Barovia, near the windmill. Probably unrelated, you seem much more learned than I am lol.
those are standing stones, which are celtic in origin. think stone henge.
The obelisk that Gary gygax put in the basement of Castle grayhawk is in good company these days.
I really thought the vecna adventure was going to do something to the forgotten realms and be the reason for the edition change. But it comes out along side it
will be curious to learn if Venger will be related to Venca in some way
Unrelated, but you know what brand partnership I'd love to see? I'd love to see a deal with Nintendo to do a Hyrule campaign setting book. That'd be dope as hell.
(Nicely) is The Shattered Obelisk review/analysis coming?
Spelljammer: Adventures In Space:
"Gargantuan floating crystal obelisk of mysterious origin"
I would have considered the Amber temple in Curse of Strahd the perfect place to put a 'mysterious obelisk' lol
is there anyway you can link this notion page, or can someone link it if it already was and I missed it?
Oh the actual page? I haven't shared it out. I'll see what I can do.
I put one in my homebrew campaign for the meme, but none of the players wanted to touch it. Oh well
Would be an amazing plot twist if Vecna is not trying to pull apotheosis again but rather preventing a bigger bad to be unleashed because his previous ascension did shatter reality enough to weaken its prison: Tharizdun, the embodiment of entropy.
Imagine heroes assuming too much and shattering these obelisk thinking they are stopping Vecna for realize then what a terrible mistake they did.
Critical role already dealt with Vecna in season 1 final boss. Joe Manganiello guest starred in those episodes, removed the hand, and replaced his own with it before teleporting away. In their realm of game, they are on a different planet than faerun. This would either mean their isn't a connection or vecna is operating multi planer / dimensionally.
But with current events that wotc pulled and how the theme changed in season 3 to a more world ending kind of threat, I predict critical role is going to find a way to break away from any connection to their current world that may hold legal obligation / ties to wotc material.
They have hard ceased all shout outs to dndbeyond since. Used to be a thing in every episode. And if you read into dialogue that Matt uses with NPCs, you can easily see a parallel with a message they are sending to wotc. It's very intelligent way to express their feelings while masking it in their game.
I'd really like if they made a 5e version of the Spell Weavers
Maybe the Obelisks will be used to rebuild or build a new Tovag Baragu for Vecna to travel in soave and time.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the obelysk from Critical Role is actually in the series here on YT
Oh yeah? I thought I missed it XD
I love this obelisk lore, keep up the good work!
That said, is it just me, or is the resolution on this video potato quality?
In the basement of the original Castle grayhawk, there is an obelisk.
3:25 Weavers
7:30 CRITTERS ! : I think the obelisk also actually came into live play!!! I'll have to check exactly when, but I remember there was some kind of explosion mechanism linked to it. I also remember Jester aging a few yers maybe in link with that. Any critter can validate ?
Think you're right about Jester aging. If I remember correctly, Caleb spent a lot of time and spell slots trying to study it and got nowhere before they decided to move on. I think it was also a random encounter too.
@@zedgathegreat9122 I checked an animatic of it and the pillar encounter had gems or a gem that they were trying to pry out, which does not correspond to the Obelisks described by jorphd here... so false alarm I guess. Jester's aging is still a bit of a fuzz to me. I think it was some kind of circle with statues
Vecna could physically travel one at a time to each setting, or it may be all concurrent with aspects of him, like with Tiamat
I kinda is Greyhawk. I’m more familiar with the deities from there. Bring back Wee Jas.
If Vecna is going to trigger the destruction of 5e and then cause a rebirth for 6e, does this mean that myth ending events are going to happen throughout the Planes? For example, does this mean that Ragnarock will happen and then result in the end of the Norse gods? In Olympus, does this mean that the Titans will gain their freedom and then exact their revenge upon Zeus and the other Olympian gods? Does this mean entities trapped in the Nine Hells, like Tiamat, can escape out of the Nine Hells and then ravage the Forgotten Realms? In other words, will Vecna literally open all of the Pandora's Boxes on each of the Planes.
Is this something that Mistra will allow to happen, just so that she can watch what kinds of new magicks will happen?
What about if there is one for one school of magic? If you add chronomancy it is 9
(Spoilers for any of my players) I have a set of Obelisks that exist in random locations in my world and have existed since my first RPG campaign in the 90's. They're effectively Obeslisks of Annihilation, black holes in reality that pin the weave down onto the planet. So reality warps around them, you get pulled into them, and they will pull you through infinity until you disappear.
They are a part of a much larger multiverse wide plot going on in my world, so they're tied to all kinds of crazy shit and of you fuck with them without knowing what you're doing you could be deleted from existence. Ultimately there are sets of Obeslisks that hold significant magical power that are around the multiverse, the most important being ones that exist on the north and south poles of Toril, Oerth, and Blackmoor -- these are the only means of multiversal travel in my universe outside of divine / powers that be intervention.
So if rituals or crazy spells need to be cast, the players or villains usually hunt down an Obeslisk matching the school type they need and do it there as a sort of focus. It's been a really handy way to explain magic and structure rules around it.
Blackstaff Tower for instance has an Obeslisk of pure arcane energy within, which allows the current Blackstaff to use the Silver Fire and speak with Mystra directly and for visitors to speak with any Blackstaff spirit.
EYE sul cross. No hits on search term "obel" in Keys from the Golden Vault
I wonder if they'll have some awesome Netherese book coming up
There's more Stuff about Vecna tho, the PHB and DMG lists him as a god as does Explorer's guide to wildemounte
In a recent video Ed Greenwood said Vecna is back and in the realms.
pbs.twimg.com/media/FE5jKEOWUAMwMWS.jpg
*Reaches into nightstand drawer and quietly puts on tinfoil hat.
I knew it. And u knew it. We knew it. Awesome.
The obelisk from icewind dale is made by the netherse and can move the entire planet back in time. The spellweavers (the weavers) races goal in monster manual 3 from 4e says they want to reunite all the planes togeder an event that would destroy the world and kill everyone including the gods. Maybe this is the purpouse of these obelisks spread around all planes.
FIRST! Never been able to say that before~
You might want to check Idle Champions. The game wiki seems to indicate it us 5E game, and does prove a theory of mine. 5E Realms is not the realms of 1E to 3E.
In 4E the proper Oerth was switched over to Nerath, an alternate Greyhawk. When 5E shows up you have a lot of Greyhawk in the Realms, and a reboot of the Saturday Morning Cartoon kids... not the original group that should up in 3E. In Idle Champions there is a segment in which 5E Vecna is active along with 2E Vecna.... meaning that we are dealing with a multiversal "Vecnas"... which is probably tied to the Obilesks. Vecna like Baba Yaga is found on multiple versions of Earth/Oerth/Nerath/Aerth/etc....
