I have been doing that for the last 49 years. Way too much good recyclable wood gets trashed these days. I recently stripped a roof from a neighbours old garage that was going to be demolished. I ended up with 24 perfectly good and straight 12"x 4" x 16' lengths of beautiful re-useable timber.
There is a blacksmith in the next town, he made me a pallet buster for a good price to pull them apart easier. I've making stuff for a few years but got it to get free wood to heat my home. It's really come in handy now!
I live in PA near a town that is a logging town, a lot of the guys there work in the woods. My brother is friends with most of them. The one guy owns a saw mill, and he said that the day Biden got in, 70% of his wood started going to China. That is why the prices are outrageous.
Friend.. I really enjoy your channel. I've used your techniques on installing baseboards and setting angles on the table saw. You explain things better than anyone I've seen on You tube. I would like to see you post more often and eventually have a successful channel $$.You have the right stuff. Thanks from California-Bay Area.
@@SawdustandWood when I go to the big box stores I ask for the shims that come under the pallets. They're pretty strong wood once you remove the grooved channel.
Sure you right. I can't extend the shop this year because board feet are up to $900+ per thousand. Only needed to go to 12x24, so I'm thinking of a metal building scabbed with siding. Thoughts?
I have the Makita hand planer (corded) and created a sliding jig for it (from a sliding router jig). It's cheaper and with the jig I'm able to flatten wider board piece. It's portable but you have to tinker with it a bit get smooth transitions between passes.

Really? If this is true it's very sad

Thanks, very kind words. I'm glad you enjoy the channel and you are correct I need to be more consistent with uploads. Thanks
I just bought 25 sheets of 3/4 cdx for a job @ 59.00 a sheet. Ridiculous!!
Hey, you could have bought a lot of lumber with that 600 dollars lol
Went to buy four 2x4s back in September and refused to pay $8.98 for one. Ridiculous.
It's crazy

I bought 1 too. Dewalt 734 like yours. Harbor freight has a Bauer 1 that is more Diy friendly in price.
Sorry meant setting angles on the miter saw.
Hook us up with a link so that interested parties can get one of those please
Facts. Whats up with that?
How many times do you hit a nail?
👍
How much wood is lost during the process (on average)?
It varies, If I really want to push it maybe 1/32 or a 1/16.
Hi daddy hi daddy
Hey my girl! I love you!
is $400 too expensive for a hobbyist? How do I justify the expense to my wife?
Honestly maybe, but there are other models for half the price that will get the job done.
Make enough stuff for her and maybe she be glad you got it. It is one of the best performing planers on the market.
I just make stuff my husband wants/needs. My list is growing, but so are my tools. He is totally on board. Lucky Lady!😇
