  • Reassembled the tone arm lift mechanism, and used some high friction grease to control the drop. Things are starting to look a bit better, but it still stops a little early.
Next video will cover the checking and adjustment of the servo gain which controls the movement of the sled and seems to affect the shut down sequence. Will that be the last of it? I hope so!

Well i'm glad that you have made some progress, i was going to fire you :-D
Getting the arm to track the record could be a bit fiddly, but you will get there.
Don't forget to lock the adjustments so it stays spot on.

Mine just stop in the middle and stop playing the record, what is the problem?

Very hard to tell. Does it start at the beginning? Has it been serviced at all?

If it hasn't been serviced, it is hard to narrow down. I'd start by checking the mechanism, make sure dried grease isn't preventing the sled moving properly, etc. If you watch the whole series you'll get lots of points to look at that might give you some hints on what to look out for.

If you don’t mind me asking how were you able to put the black cover back on? I had tracking issues on mine and it just needed a belt swap. I can’t get the black cover back in I know I’m clearly doing something wrong since the lid won’t close.
When I try operating it, it just reads all my 12 inch vinyl as a 7 inch since the cover isn’t in.
Any help would be truly appreciated
    Thanks

Yes, it is a bit of a pain to get it in correctly. Take the plastic cover out, and have a look at the plastic molding that sticks out and activates the arm on the bottom of the unit. If you look carefully you'll see a slight lip on the plastic down the bottom, where it meets the metal of the lid assembly. That lip needs to go behind the metal. I found that installing by putting hook on the right into its slot, then getting all the bottom correctly aligned (and meaning that lip on the correct side of the metal ie behind), and then checking the bottom is flush on the metal part of the lid, prior to pushing the top two retainers home, made it go in properly. Any other order seems to ensure that lip fouls and the plastic doesn't home right, in fact I can't close the lid properly.
While we're here, I think the molding that touches the arm is supposed to have a bit of rubber attached to the surface, around 3mm. I had an issue with an LP that is slightly bigger in diameter not playing, and the arm was scraping on the side. So something to be aware of.
I'm getting closer to fixing this CT-4 tape deck, and then I'll be able to devote time to the next SL-5 series.
