- Short video of a lovely interview to Laura Branigan. "Entertainment Tonight" spotlighted the success of Laura's career, with an interesting interview, centered around her incredible voice and stage presence!. Looking rather shy, before the camera, she talks about always wanting to be in the music business, even though she was rejected by nearly everyone. With the incredible success that has followed her, she mentions how she has changed, but always being true to the idea, that she wants to touch people with her music. With her classic blue diver "Alaska", always so natural and nice, Laura talks about the present of her career and her new album "Touch", I think. You can see some scenes of her music videos "Solitaire", "Self Control" and "Shattered Glass" as well as an example of her vocal trials and also a bit of gymnastics. I think this interview was in 1987 or 1988 but I'm not sure. Hope you enjoy!
Here the interview for translate.
Interviewer: Laura Branigan's hit Gloria stayed on the charts so long, it became one of the longest running singles of the decade. Fans even called her Gloria.
Interviewer: When people say to you, and they did, I'm sure they were saying that to you that you were an overnight sensation with Gloria.
LB: lol That was a long time in coming, wasn't it?
LB: Yes, I got rejected by every record company in the business. They all said I didn't sound like anyone, I didn't fit in anywhere. Which, I think in the long run is good. It's what I want.
(Solitaire)
Interviewer: In the long run, it has been good. This vocal powerhouse followed up with hit after hit. Not bad for a country girl who was once so shy she couldn't even raise her hand in class.
LB: That is something I had to get over because you can't be in this business and be like I was. My first interview I literally sat there like this, and I'd just go "mhm" (yes) and I'd try to get my hair in front of me. I saw it (pushes her hair back) and it was like "ahh" so embarrassing.
Interviewer: Trying to get your hair in your face so they really didn't see you?
LB: Yes. Well, my mouth was so dry my lips stuck. And, I couldn't get my lip down. "lol" It was awful.
(Self control)
LB: I think the reason I really went after my career and my singing is because I felt I had the ability to touch people. And, that's all I wanted to do with my music
(Practicing)
Interviewer: Branigan has a strong dramatic voice. A delicate instrument she keeps in by studying with the renowned vocal teacher Carlo Menotti.
LB: Singing is first a talent, but then a skill. And, you've got to have that skill. You've got to in order to express the voice the best that in can and Carlos teaches me that skill.
(Working out)
Interviewer: Laura not only keeps her voice in shape, she keeps herself in shape by working out everyday. (Laura moans) She's working just as hard on her career. Hoping her new album, Touch will be music to everyone's ears.
(Shattered Glass)
LB: I feel great about this album. It's my baby right now. I believe it's more me than anything I've done. I've taken charge of my life. I feel happier.

Now, with hockey's St. Louis Blues using it as their victory song, all the way to a Stanley Cup win, "Gloria", and Laura, have reached generations of new fans. I played it on radio in 1982 and fell in love. Be at peace, Laura.
