- The American pop vocalist Laura Branigan is interviewed by Sue Simmons at the WNBC TV newscast and talk show "Live at Five" after the nominations announcement for the 25th Grammy Awards 1983. Laura just had won her first nomination in the category "Best Female Pop Vocal Performance" for "Gloria". On this interesting chat, Laura share her happiness for this outstanding achievement and her expectations competing with other big artists as Olivia Newton-John, Linda Ronstadt, Melissa Manchester and Juice Newton; and what's more especial, being a true performer "new on the scene".
"You can't tell what's going to happen so, I really don't want to get my hopes up too high and I don't to fail. I just very happy be nominated" she said smiling. Laura remember her hard work to reach this very important milestone in her career as vocalist, and then talks about the magic of the song "Gloria", the way it rose to the top of success and the reactions it generates in the people.
Sadly, Laura lost the Grammy. Melissa Manchester won it with her song "You Should Hear How She Talks About You".
The interviewer recalls Laura had her 'Street Buzz' as a new voice with her first solo shows 2-week completely sold out at the club Reno Sweeney in Greenwich Village, New York in late 1978. Finally, she talks about how she feels and handle the stardom and how it does not changed herself and neither her real friends. New York TV, channel 4 (Dec. 1982). Hope you like it!.

Thank you for sharing this. I had been searching for videos of her being interviewed.
She was on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, fairly often. She always performed wonderfully, but the interviews he did with her, were just as entertaining. She was so humble and funny and it is very obvious that Johnny was smitten by her! She was a singer whom poured everything she had into her songs, with a unique voice and inner/outer beauty, which can never be replaced! I miss her greatly; the days when music was not the garbage of today....RIP Beautiful Laura, you brought joy and a richness to many lives. ❤️

The trumpets at the end of that song make me think of some kind of victory. The song was a victory for Laura. I'm glad she got to see it in her lifetime.

Some interviewers are more impressed by their interviewing skills...and not to concerned with the interviewee.... Good interview / cold bedside manner. C+. ..
