Hi there, Liron here - and we're BACK with some more Painting Masters!
In episode 85 we'll look at Pete the Street, aka Peter Brown.
    A superb plein-air painter.
I must say some of these have blown me away, and one of these is probably my favorite painting of another artist, for at least the past year or so.
Grab your favorite drink, sit back and enjoy the show 🙏😊

Liron, this is so generous - I am quite bowled over! Delighted you like the car pictures - cars are so good to paint eh! You are soo good at them. It's so cool you do these videos about other artists. I am now a fan! I only paint in oils although if you search the website you'll find some charcoal drawings too. Re the studio night - yes that's me painting myself in the reflection of the window. I don't use photos - just want to paint from life. Anyway - you are a star and thank you so much! P

Pete "the street", gets up early everyday and drives from Bath to London in his old van. He sets up plein air in all weather conditions. His work is mind blowing!

@@LironYan Not personally, but you might find this interesting:
Here is the description of a short video on YT about 3 UK artists, one of whom is Peter Brown. Somewhere there is a full documentary or video, but I haven't been able to find it.
      Description given:
Ken Howard OBE RA paints Varanasi in India along with Pete Brown NEAC RP and Patrick Cullen NEAC. Follow three of the UK`s leading painters as they tackle their chosen subjects and experience the colourful life that is Varanasi.

I recently discovered Peter Brown and went through every painting on his website, just trying to absorb his genius. I was in Bath in April 2013, and I recognized the areas I had photographed during that trip. The funniest thing I discovered was that he painted the car park where we got a parking ticket. Love his work so much, it is just everything!

great video ! I have a big painting of our local high street by Peter proudly above out fireplace. It's painted at dusk & the best thing is the approaching car with headlights on !. Lovely guy, came round for a cuppa & I bumped into him in Soho during the Covid semi lockdown with no one in Central London and had a great chat. By the way, us Londoners / Southerners say Bath (as you noted) but northerners say it more like you 🙂

Yes! And somehow his brushmarks are very visible, and he expresses multiple details with very few marks.
It's one of my favorite things to behold!

Amazing!!! In the “night” version of his studio, his image reflected on the window… i don’t think he was “taking a picture”.. i think it was him DOING the picture, looks like a big canvas in the reflection, i was wondering how big this fantastic paintings are. Ty Liron☺️

Interesting! I haven't even thought of that but it makes total sense 🙂
I would guess that perhaps he takes photos to accompany some plein-air paintings (in case a car moves or interesting people appear). But in the studio everything is static so no need for photos!
Thank you so much for watching 🙏😊

Hi Tom. Thank you. You are absolutely right. Its me painting me - how narcissistic! It's 48 x 42 inches. On the whole the largest I paint on outdoors is 35 x 30 inches (the first painting of Bath Abbey) although I used to paint larger. Currently painting on 16 x 12 and 8 x 24 boards and seem to be getting a lot more fiddly and detail obsessed. ATB, P

Hi! I wonder if you heard about this watercolor artist from Sweden called Peter Reuterberg ? He is doing some amazing large figures . I found him a while ago on Instagram. Also another one that I found impressing is Brian Haberlin. It would be nice if you do an analysis of them or even better have them in some podcasts interviews?

Wondering whether you could use gouache with watercolor in the final darker layers to overcome the lighter dried tones of watercolor? Thanks for this intro to Peter Brown. I'm blown away by the parking garage!

Thanks for sharing Liron, I knew the cars would be your weakness (haha). For me, most of his paintings just have way too much information in them, but I liked the first park scene. He seems to paint what he sees in front of him without much if any re-composing of the scene. Everything in the scene has the same importance, like a photograph, I'm not really seeing clear focal areas. For me, a painting should have a clear impact area in mind, all the remaining areas just play a supporting role. When you just paint a photo, what is the purpose, what can the artist contribute? Cheers!

      @petebrown7294 Před 2 měsíci

Hi Joe. Totally get you. My weakness is I don't edit, I guess it's because I am more obsessed with recording life that making beautiful paintings. I only paint from life though and never use photography for reference. Of course I probably do edit but not consciously. In fact I am getting even more fiddly in my work. I love noticing road markings, grafitti, patination on walls, variations in asphalt and so on.. Guess I am a bit weird! ATB, P
