- PIDE BASICS' survey shows that Pakistan has very low social capital, i.e., community sense, trust and the ability to collaborate. We have always struggled to establish a national identity. Data show that we are fragmented.
The recent crises demonstrate it as well. What are the reasons for it and how it can be changed?
#EconFest wants you to think hard about your future, our youth's future, and the future of economic policy in the country.

This Sikh guy in Pakistan himself is a 2nd class citizen. India has had Sikh Prime Minister as well Presidents but this Pakistani Sikh guy cannot become PMPresident in Pakistan because Pakistan's constitution doesn't allow non-muslims to become head of state and he is talking about Sikhs of India. "Fragmentation." "Polarization." "Weak state." In fact Pakistan as a nation-state doesn't exist. This is the heart of the tragedy. For a nation-state to exist, it needs civic institutions. Those functioning civic institutions help create a dynamic economic sector. No other community was more degraded than the community of Muslims in a pre-partitioned India. Unlike the degraded Muslims, the more enlightened Hindus saw the obvious. In order to move forward, India needs talent and industries. For that the spread of education and science is critical. It was India's luck to have an enlightened leadership. They had not misused power. No military general in uniform lunatic enough to entertain a sense of grandeur. Result? Millions of Indians rose from the subsistence level of poverty in the last two decades. On the other side of border, a minister laments at the stunted children showing up in schools. In fact millions do not go to school. Now a failed and bankrupt state lives on remittances and seek bailouts from the I.M.F. Pakistan military generals run various "Criminal Enterprises" in a state with dead industries. They run puppet shows in the absence of political institutions. One puppet prime minister celebrated the arrival of Taliban state in Afghanistan. His own out-of-wedlock daughter happens to be residing in London with an access to the best schools in the world. The question ought to be: how Muslims managed to wreck an already wrecked Muslim ghetto of the 19th century then horrified both Hindus and English? Muslims have yet to learn how to be horrified while staring at themselves in the mirror. In a Pakistan army-run failed and bankrupt state.

Pakistanis are undoubtedly Allah's favourites. To which other people did the Most Merciful, the Most Beneficient , and Most Just Allah assign the task of building the modern Fort of Islam against the tide of proud kuffar? In the history of Pakistan two events contributed immensely that specially design all these identity and ethnic problems, nationalization of institutions by Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and their use for political gains and Zia ul Haq's fanatic approach and its a complete chapter that need to be discussed in detail. These events drastically effect the curriculum and personal relations between individuals and society as whole.
Very entertaining session, however, didn't learn much as it was obvious. Mr. Arora was talking the truth when he said to change the school curriculum. 23% nonmuslim people out of which 20% are in the East and the remaining 3% in the West. I would ask where did the individual get this data from.

Mr. Arora cited BJP's fake news when he said Pakistan's minorities decreased from 21% to 3%. There's a very good article by an Indian author on this propaganda. Briefly, these are pre-Bangladesh numbers. Pakistanis have a uncontrollable urge for self-deprecation, and Mr. Arora exhibited his Pakistaniat by doing the same.
