    Tom I just installed my handle with your instructions. Worked perfect. I never got instructions except printing them online and it was not needed. One thing that sped things up is the camera connector to the handle can be disconnected by pressing on the connector release clip on the top left side and pull the connector to the left. The camera connector attaches to the tailgate handle with a connector that is released on the bottom of the right side, press up and it slides off to the right. No need to remove the fastener attached to the tailgate. Hope this helps and I did this pretty quickly for me like 40 minutes or so going step by step with your video. It is good enough to not need instructions as I just proved that. Thanks.....

      Good for you. This is not an easy install unless you have all the right tools ( like a magnetic socket so you don't drop bolts into the tailgate. I had Honda do it and they struggled. Got it so wrong that when I lifted the upper handle it would only engage the latch sporadically and with no definitive break point. They did it wrong and probably used the old linkage which was not long enough. Took the 3 times to get it right. The reason more trucks do not have this dual tailgate is because the whole mechanism is far more complex. There are those that have had issues with the OEM upper handle.
      Bottom line this install is not that easy unless you are at least an 8 on a 10 scale mechanically speaking and have all the right tools.

    • @tomsdreamshopworx
      @tomsdreamshopworx  Před 5 lety +2

      James Laqui - This oem Honda lock only works with the key, not with the fob. It comes with its own key but if you want you can have the cylinder rekeyed before you install it to match the key for your truck. There is an aftermarket company called pop n lock that offers one that you can wire into your system to work with the fob. It gets mixed reviews on it’s reliability.

      you have to purchase a new handle assembly. It has two holes. One for the camera and one for the lock. The handle does not come a lock. I purchased from Colonial Honda in Massachusettes. They have a parts internet site that shows many Honda accessories, etc. Between the two it cost me close to $100. I elected to take the lock cylinder to a locksmith to get it keyed to work with the keys in the two FOBs. Another $54. I had no directions. My only resource was Tom's great video. Instead of 45 mins, it took me close to 3 hrs. I did run into a few little problems. The locksmith must have removed the tab on the lock and replaced it in a position that was 180 degrees out. I corrected. The white clips that clip onto the top of the door molding really need to be removed and placed into the molding. Mine didn't break but I tried to reassemble by leaving them on the gate. Bad move. The honda website is www.hondapartswholesaledirect.com I don't have the part numbers handy but you can call to ask. I also bought the Tonneau cover from them. I thought the product was reasonably priced.
