    I lucked out and didn't have to remove the tabs to slide my trim back on. Lined em up and got it on the first try. Also, a friend of mine with a Ridgeline suggested that I get my lock re-keyed. So, I took his suggestion. I got my lock re-keyed to the key inside my keyfob, so I do not need to have extra keys on my ring for the trunk lock. It only ran me $35.00 Cost my friend $50.00 . Very much worth it in either case in my opinion. Great video btw!

    The upgraded purple locking connector is supplied and is for replacing the smaller purple connector that is connected to the lever that controls the swing open feature of the tailgate , It is a more durable connector so it doesn't break if someone pulls on the lever for the side release feature when the tailgate is locked.

    Hey, Thank you so much for your Ridgeline videos, they have been quite helpful. I have changed out the back door checkers on my 2019 Ridgeline with the help of your video, and I added the locking tailgate handle about a year ago. I finally got around to pulling out the lock cylinder and having it re-keyed to the factory key today. For $20.00 at a local locksmith, it was well worth it. Again, good job on your videos, keep up the good work!

    Another hearty THANK YOU for a great video! Very easy to follow along and understand. I was at a Metro Nashville stealership today getting my Ridgeline serviced and asked how much to have the lock installed. They quoted labor of $130. Figuring they saw me as a piece of candy on a stick, I decided I would give it the old college try. Thankfully I had all of the tools necessary and this only took about 45 minutes (including reattaching the top cap) with no wrong turns.

    excellent video, clear and concise! I have a 2017 Ridgeline. The Dealer could not even tell me if the kit would work because apparently the parts computer did not list it for the 2017. The dealer wanted $220+ to install and charged me about $120 for the kit (both parts) . I decided to try to install it myself after watching this video because nothing seemed outside of my limited ability. To my joy and surprise everything worked and looked exactly like the video described. The only slight difference was that my screws on the big panel were a Torx 40 instead of a 30. Pretty minor. Thanks again!

    Thank you for posting this! Very clear. Took me less than 45 mins. Trickiest part is restarting the bolts holding in the handle, needlenose pliers help. Also put all the white plastic clips right back into the tailgate rim cap right after you take it off, paying attention to their orientation. It went right back on, first try for me. Putting the clips back in was the most time-consuming part of the process.

    I would give this video 4 of 5 stars. More detail on the clips of the tailgate cap are what knock off one star.
    My main reason for this review is the lock cylinder. I haven't done this yet, but spoke to a locksmith and for $45 he can rekey it to match doorlock cylinder. I'm in El Paso so that price is probably double in other metropolitan areas. I LOVE this bordertown!!

    The installation was a breeze after watching your video. The purple connector included w/ the kit is used on the cable that releases the tailgate to open like a car door. The handle down by the bumper. The new purple connector is beefier or more heavy-duty like the ones you'll be installing. Probably easier to go ahead and install it while the tailgate is disassembled rather than having to go back and replace it later. Thanks again for the video. Installation was easy.

    I just installed mine as well. I love it! I’ve seen the pop and lock that are electronic. I asked my Honda tech about it and he said not to install the electronic version. They had a guy come in with the e-version and they fault like hell to get it open because the electronic actuator broke. It was total nightmare and took a week to get it to open. Not for me. I’m going with a manual one. Found out 2020 Ridgeline has the electronic locking tailgate now that works with the key fob. Honda also knew because of the failures of electronic devices like pop and lock they have a backup where you can unlock this secured door underneath the tailgate with your OEM key in the fob and pull this steel cable to unlock the tailgate if the actuator fails.

    • @donaldwilson2620
      @donaldwilson2620 Před 4 lety +1

      I'm glad that I'm not the only person that had seen problems with the Pop and Lock power tailgate lock. I had a customer with a 2018 Ridgeline with that system installed and it started to have problems staying locked. I thought that it may have been incorrect installation, but it turned out to be the actuator itself, which is the same problem that the guy you mentioned had. The customer decided to go with the factory lock instead and despite not being power actuated, she likes the factory one way better. I'm also glad the 2020 Ridgeline finally has a standard power lock for the tailgate as well because I actually like the Ridgeline and I'm considering buying for myself.

      I got this one amzn.to/2LBhBzA. Rolls up nicely. But the bed truck only opens about 75%. Not a problem for me.

    Hello, we had ours done at the dealership. It has been very hard to get the tailgate to open. 9 out of 10 times you have to yank the handle upwards with a hard tug. The dealership has had two attempts to fix the problem. Any tips? Other than go to a new dealership or do it myself??

      Something must be wrong, I never have to do that with mine. Opens just like how it was before. I would have them redo.

    So weird it doesn’t lock. I used to have a 2006 when then they first came out & if remembered correctly the tailgate used to lock & unlock with the fob & door lock button. Wonder if I’m accurate if this oversight it’s these late models. Great vids buddy.

      Honda cut some corners with the new ridgeline and this is one of them. The truck locks but not the tailgate.

    what about the 1st gen Ridgeline? Are the parts the same or is there another OEM kit for the 1st gen?

      Yes with some help and it was very difficult to do. I would suggest getting a shop to do it. Took 4 hrs each side. You can find them on Amazon.
