Very interesting video, I wish I could wave a magic wand and recreate all these local railway lines.

This video was very interesting. I actually live on a road in this video though I won't say which. Our house has railway remains on it and we have used them for construction. We have many pictures of what it did look like, with old structures still being present around. Recently the local council has fitted an information board by the line explaining and showing the old Line. Very informative, Good work 👍

The Leeds Rd bridge was taken down in 1978/79 due to rust making in unsafe. It was painted black with a FERODO, brakes & disks advert painted in white on it. The ICI footbridge went over the ICI depot line, but I think the goods line to ICI entrance was just off Dalton bank lane opposite to where there was Dixon’s ice cream depot. If my memory serves me right bare in mind I was 6/7 , my step dad took me in his works where they unloaded the coal etc. The ICI depot line was taken out of use around 1975 & there was remains of an old shunter there.

Thank you ! I’ve done some Huddersfield now and then videos
( check out the series ) and in one of them I have done a before and after picture of that bridge ( unfortunately that was after I uploaded this video which would have been nice to put in the video
I’ve also done a follow up video on this as I got the location of fenay bridge station slightly incorrect 😌

Yes i used to live in Mirfield and Hopton and my Farther came home from work and said ( why i remember this i don't know but i do} he had just shut Kirkheaton signal box for the last time. But he also closed Batteyford Goods Yard as well, he also closed Mirfield No 4 as well that is the first signal box going on the Bradford branch out of Mirfield to Northope (no longer there) not sure if he ealso closed Mirfield No 5 i know he worked there but he worked a long time for the railway.

At Huddersfield the guard for this train would call in cadence "Deighton, Kirkheaton, Fenay Bridge and Kirkburton".

I have the book as I’m about to embark on a model railway based loosely on this line. Upto 1975 we lived at 675 Leeds Rd. The last house next to the embankment by the demolished bridge & my grandparents lived at the top of Whitacre St.

Aww same I have the book too ! It’s a good book
Aww was it on the left side going westbound ?
Also once you’ve done the model railway would it be possible to see 😎

@@exploringthepastandthepres9793 the house was on the same side as the mill ponds & ICI as it was then, my junior school friend lived in house opposite. The model railway is only at the research stage at moment which is just as well coz it’s going to be an expensive project, & it’s going to built from scratch to keep costs down. Which is how I came across your channel, it’s helped as its updated compared to my memory.

I remember going in the signal box where the trains went over Leeds road when the goods line was open. 😎 Enjoyed your video 👍🏻.
I’m sure on the photo of Harvey’s, you can see the station on the above far right? On the right hand side of Station Road.

Fantastic. I’ve got knowledge of some of the missing pieces (still there) around the Fenway Bridge chunk and remember the bottom of lepton station there until the end of the 90s if you want to make a short follow on. If you want showing them, feel free to give me a shout.
