He leaves out the fact that first he tried to explain that his little girl loves the candle AND he offers to give him $100 for it. Any normal person wouldn't have taken the candle from a kid in the first place and then when presented the facts...would have given the candle with an apology that they were a complete moron. Lessor people would have just agreed to the money. But not that clownpenis....he wanted to keep it because it was 'kitchy'. He earned the trip through glass.

Unfortunately, humans aren't very capable at continuously engaging that frontal cortex with all that rationalising, decision making etc. They usually innately go within their brains and shut those rational centers off, but violence doesn't work. It usually always leads to more violence, and both outcomes leads to death. So, no. Violence is never good, but it is a consequential fact about our brains, and how it works, and it's a part of animal nature, which includes us.

If you're using violence because you want to, and/or it makes you feel good, it's almost certainly the wrong answer. OTOH, one of the problems with teaching people that violence is always bad is that when those people finally get to a place where they can't figure out a better solution, they don't know how to apply it, when to apply it, who to apply it to, or how to stop, and it generally ends up being too late, and too much, both.

It's not funny - it's entirely true. Many men and some teenagers need that lesson to grow. I was big for my age and hit puberty early. I thought I could bully a smaller guy on a playing field after school. He beat the shit out of me. I realised bullies are pricks - that I was a prick - and never did it again. If I didn't get that ass-kicking, my ego would have grown a little more. I'd probably have tried it on someone else and someone after that until I encountered someone who gave me the lesson I needed. Moral of the story: some boys and men need to learn the hard way that treating people with respect is essential. That's good violence.

I hate pacifists who can't imagine the possibility that sometimes the best solution is violence, and in fact is sometimes even the only solution. Does might make right? No, but sometimes it's the only way for right to stand up for itself.
If every decent person took the view that violence is always bad, then what you end up with is a world where only the people who don't play by the rules have the option to enforce their will, which would make a world where might actually does make right.
You can use an example like WW2, or you can use an example that a lot of people deal with which is a bully. I was bullied in school, went on for almost a year because I'm not really the fighting type and it was only insults, following me around and just generally being a dick, shit like that, they weren't hitting me (because I would have fought back straight away for that). Talking to the teachers did nothing, talking to the dickhead did nothing, asking them to leave me alone was pointless and really just enticed them to keep doing it. So one day I snapped, I grabbed him by the shirt and I kicked the ever loving shit out of him, I made him cry in front of the whole class. He was on the floor just absolutely sobbing. I looked up and everyone thought that I was the dickhead, but I'll tell you what. He never said shit to me ever again.
This pseudo-moralistic idea that you shouldn't ever fight back or defend yourself is just bullshit that weakens all of us. Every human being has the ability to kill or seriously maim every other human being, if we all were able to tap into that ability then the evil dickheads of the world would be less willing to cause shit. Muggers and thieves for example specifically target people who they know can't or won't defend themselves. If we were all taught how to be able and willing to defend ourselves, then muggers and thieves have a significantly harder time just picking a victim, never mind actually doing it. Martial arts and general combat training should be in the curriculum as compulsory subjects.

The irony is that the threat of violence is what upholds social order. Ray is being kept in therapy through the power of the State, where if he refuses he will be forcibly arrested and put in prison. So that would be an example, in the therapist’s opinion, of violence “working.” If society functioned properly, then Ray wouldn’t feel the need to use violence because every person would have access to resources to avoid it. The therapist is merely punching down without considering the bigger picture of how institutions function and power dynamics function.

Numerous studies have shown time and time again, the best results of physical parenting is 0 negative results, that’s the best for when you hit a child, that you don’t traumatise them. That’s BEST case.
Listen, if your child is old enough to understand, then talking should be enough if you’re a good enough parent. If you’re child isn’t old enough to understand, why would being hit add an understanding.
So either hitting a child is a failure of parents being unable or unwilling to properly communicate, or it’s hitting a child who wouldn’t not be able to comprehend the situation.
Parents who hit are nothing more than failures of parenting who lost their cool and decided to physically harm the one person in their life they are meant to protect and love from day one.
