    Discusses the idea that given the need for explanatory adequacy, Chomsky proposed that parts of our syntactic system are innate and instinctual forming a Universal Grammar (UG). This video explores the evidence for this claim and considers one of the major objections to it: Language Variation. Carnie explains that language variation (e-languages) can be accounted for by parameters with variable settings as part of UG.

      @@CarnieSyntaxthEdition I'm a huge fan of your textbook🤗I took my intro syntax with it, and it helped me a lot. It is so friendly to beginners and those who want to self-study. I later got to TA a freshman GE class in language acquisition, and I recommended it to whoever is interested in syntax😄
