Probably not to difficult too unpack the history of Kon-El, and Jon Kent is relatively new. But....the original Superboy who was Superman as a boy? Whew!! There were a bunch of stories there that seemed way out of chronology. In one Superman story we have Supes meeting Lori Lemaris for the first time, but a couple years later we have Superboy meeting Lori. Also, young Clark met a young Lois a few times. Young Clark also met a young Bruce Wayne and a young Oliver Queen in two very similar stories. And then there are all those adventures in the 30th century with the Legion! All fun stuff, but definitely a tangled mess.

Tomasi and co actually tried to set-up a new kid trinity including a completly new character with psychic powers. She was a young alien kid in Damians and Jons age brought to earth by, of all people, Manchester Black (yes, THAT Manchester Black) after he had destroyed her home planet. He used her as an agent to try and win Jon over to his side, but she changed sides when Black tried to finish his plan by taking over Superboys body.
Tomasi accidentally saved her from the reign of Didio and Bendis when he wrote her temporarly out when it was decided that the Kents would return to Metropolis.
Long story short: The engine of her space-ship got destroyed by Black during the "Superboy Black" story and created a black hole on earth which she had to constantly keep under wraps with her psychic powers until a better solution could be found to deal with it. Just a reminder, she is not even a Teen but already has champions-league level abilitys.

I had pants wilder than Bruce, Jr's in 1972-73-74. Loud, psychedelic pants inspired by Peter Max art. Bruce, Jr's pants are restrained and dignified in comparison.
In my defense, I was 6-8 years old and did not have a choice when it came to the clothes bought for me.

    the only evidence needed is:
Bruce - Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Damian Wayne
Clark - Kara Zor-el - put in an orpanage, Conner Kent - pawned off on his parents

I read the 70's Super Sons. I've often quoted Bruce Jrs line, "Dowse that freaky light"! --But I liked Superman Jr.s more limited powers, which were a call back to Superman at his origin.

  • @johnkrier8021

I had utterly forgotten about the super-toddlers in those earlier stories and the double wedding. Thank you for the reminder! Also, I mistakenly believed E. Nelson Bridwell created that version of the super sons. Maybe he was just the editor at the time who approved it? will...require...research.
I believe comics fandom is finally beginning to accept the idea that continuity is quite the fluid thing. Canon can be tweaked and adjusted at any time for the sake of one story and put right back on track for the next. After "Infinite Crisis" and DC's claim that there were 52 universe, I sort of blew raspberries at the thought because I knew....JUST KNEW!... there was no way it would ever stay so limited. I'm not even sure it should be. While I may be an old fogey with my own set of old fashioned (sort of) like and dislikes, I also enthusiastically welcome seeing what others can come up with. Most of it I find rather meh, but sometimes I see real gems. Or what are gems to me. But I also know other people are finding their own gems in things I might think are rubbish. To me, that is what art and entertainment is all about!

I remember reading the World's Finest issues with the "Suoer Sons". Several issues had Batman and Superman talking on the splash page, but they looked almost like phantoms, and never appeared anywhere else in the comic. So, when they finally did the wrap up, seeing them as phantoms sort of made sense, since they were supposedly watching a simulation (though that wasn't the original purpose, I'm sure). And the mother's were purposely kept in shadows. Bruce Jr's mother had dark hair (so at the time, Selina Kyle was presumed to be the mom). Not sure we ever saw the hair color of Clark Jr's mother; this way, readers could choose their own favorite between Lois and Lana.

Yep! Every single one you mentioned!
And As a matter of fact I was really impressed with how thorough your research is!
At the beginning of your video I was wondering if you were going to cover the early versions of the Silver Age - you nailed it!!!
Like so many I was also upset when they hyper aged Jonathan. I really enjoyed the Super sons current stories.
And I just recently learned of the graphic novel version of "Ian and Jonathan" my local library had them...they are in my stack of "to read" books now.
The one comic I did miss was the Elseworlds 80 page Giant...didn't know about that one...gotta find it and check it out!
Sasha...great video. As an old guy who has read a lot of older comics I am impressed with your knowledge and research!
I would love to see DC do a crossover of the different Super-sons from the different universes!
Thank you for the super sons video :-)

I still have a pair of Bruce Jr's pants. Well, not that precise design, but bell bottoms my Mom bought for me when I was in high school in 1973. They're much patched, the waist has been let out, and the bells have been taken in, but there's still much of the original fabric in place.

You know, I always thought that if the duo became a trio with a young girl in the group it'd be super cool. Maybe like a young version of Wonder Woman or whoever to finish the trilogy. I hope they can get the og Super Sons artist on it. They were excellent and really fit the material.

I'm of the opposite mindset when it comes to graphic novels; I love wild reinvention. It's out of continuity, take advantage of it! I *adored* Swamp Thing: Twin Branches.
As for Superheroes having kids, I have a soft spot for Offspring, Plastic Man's son. I like the idea of an angsty teen having such goofy powers. It's always fun when characters have powers that don't match their personalities.

I found out about the "Super Sons" years ago in the Superman forums though for years I've seen the Sons pop up in World's Finest comic covers.. It was "The Search for a new Batman (which also featured Robin just returned from Hudson University).. The cover had a Superman and a dead Batman with teenaged versions of Supes (which I thought was Superboy) and Bats.. I bought the complete collection of Super Sons stories soon after..

I did enjoy the 1970's Super-Sons if for no other reason than I picked it up randomly as a kid and just assumed it had happened with no context to refer to. Them riding across America on a motorbike but still seeming to have all the resources of their parents was weird and intriguing.
However, the Generations concept by Byrne *really* worked for me because it's pretty much what I think most readers would like: a continuity that doesn't stay static and it allows Byrne to address the various eras of comic books and filter it through the lens of these two iconic characters. You definitely see the earlier iterations of the Batman/Robin/Superman II et al. ideas from the SIlver Age, but also get to see their consequences, and that alone would make for a fascinating video.

You realize that in the 70s, those striped pants were the most normal part of Batman Jr.'s outfit?
