    The very first day of having a leopard gecko he escape. He somehow squeezed through the glass slides and i found him behind my bed. I immediately fixed it and made sure he wouldn't be able to do it again.

    Thank you for making this video! I just got my first two leopard geckos today. They each have their own full set up because they have belonged to my friend for the last 5 years but she wanted to re-home them. I have the time, space, and prior research so I said I could take them! This video helped a lot.

    Although we've had other reptiles in the past, we just got our first leopard gecko. He's kind of a rescue, as the mum was giving it away as the son could no longer care for it adequately.. His vivarium was very sparse. He's already doing better, just trying to get our heads around the heating setup and what's best - there's so much conflicting information out there! Your video has really helped us though, thanks a lot! ✌🏻

    Hi quick question, I’ve just got a leopard gecko and was just wondering we are using a uv light ,so which calcium is the best to use with d or without

    • @nance397
      @nance397 Před 3 lety +3

      You need both calcium, with and without d3, the d3 isndusted on food and the without d3 goes in a bottle cap inside the enclosure, they will go and eat it if the need it. UV has helped with activity and strong bones but you would need the right set up, i suggest watching a channel called Leopard Gecko, she uses UV and explains it the best.

    I was so confused about the substrate thing so i gave my leo both. 1 part is loose substrate (dry eco earth) and the other part has flat stones which get nice and warm

    • @nightinggale6470
      @nightinggale6470 Před 3 lety

      Eco earth is not a good substrate. It’s unnatural, dusty, and hard on their joints. Good options include zoo med’s reptisoil, a mix that’s 60% top/potting soil and 40% playsand (or a soil/sand/clay mix), Arcadia earth mix arid, or Terra Sahara from the bio dude.

    • @rowanlouise4040
      @rowanlouise4040 Před 3 lety

      @@nightinggale6470 thats what you hear about every substrate. I used eco earth after i did research and heard that many leopardgecko owners use this.

    • @moonlark5039
      @moonlark5039 Před 3 lety

      @@rowanlouise4040 that’s not what you hear about every substrate… Coconut fibre is known to be dusty when dry, which can cause respiratory infections. It has a very loose consistency that can cause joint problems, their feet tend to sink into it (soil is firmer and provides more support). A soil/sand mix is much better for them.

    Hello I have a question. I just got my gecko today and I was wondering if they should have any light at all at night time. In my room it’s basically pitch black so I have my window open which doesn’t do much at all. Do you think he is okay in my very dark room at night?

    • @unchartedwild2166
      @unchartedwild2166  Před 4 lety +1

      No night light is necessary! As long as the temps stay good then you're all set! Their eyes are very well adjusted for night time

    • @nightinggale6470

      No, there isn’t a way to tell his exact age. For future reference please don’t buy animals from PetSmart, they’re not a good company to support.

    I’m thinking about getting a leopard gecko however I’m a bit torn between using a UVA or UVB light or simply using a heating pad. My room can be relatively cold at times so I’m nervous about relying on a mat.

      @unchartedwild2166  Před 3 lety

      well depending on the UV light it might not even give off heat, your best bet is probably both a UTH and heat lamp so you have good day heat and night if your room gets too cold

    • @nightinggale6470
      @nightinggale6470 Před 3 lety

      They should never have any lights on at night. A heat lamp and UVB light during the day are good, though. Just make sure the UVB is a linear/tube bulb, not compact.
