    I know I'm three years late, but this video was super helpful and reassuring. I just got my first baby in October, and he hasn't shown any interest in eating and I've been very concerned, so thanks for giving me an eta to work with so I know when I need to get help if this issue persists. Researching online was giving me hardcore anxiety because everyone seemed to have a different opinion on how they should be fed, so I'm glad to finally have some input from a professional.

    This video was very helpful for me as a complete beginner doing research before buying my first snake. Some of the stuff I've seen/read about hognose snakes before made me feel like I'd have to 1) do everything in my power to make the snake eat; 2) start handling the snake right away & often to ensure it's used to handling... I'm glad I kept looking for more information and found this video. I definitely feel like researching more before I buy my snake, but this vid gave me a sense of solid footing that I really needed, covering basically every question a newbie like me might have. You're very charismatic too, so it was a joy to watch! Thank you!

    Holy crap dude this has been so helpful. I’ve been on the fence whether or not I should get a baby or adult/slightly older hognose. There’s the “I grew up with this boy” attitude with getting a baby and taking care of it into adulthood, but it’ll also be my first snake so I’m not too sure if I would want to deal with the finicky part of a baby.

      I got an 8mo off Morph Market in 2022 and I haven't had any issues with him. He does go off food for a month or 2 each year, and that scared me when I first got him, but I offer him food on a regular schedule and he's been growing fine. Probably should have gone up to fuzzies earlier, but no issues from him. He's a joy 🥰 also living near the ocean in SoCal so humidity is rarely below 40% (usually 40-50%, sometimes 60%) and he's never been sick, but I do run an air purifier 24/7 since I have a bunch of houseplants in my room too. Probably wouldn't try hognoses if I was in Louisiana or something tho.

    Just got a Hognose yesterday... didnt do much research beforehand but we are getting all the info we can! have almost everything for his habitat. just waiting on amazon to ship the thermostat before we really use the heat pad. I am worried that his cage right now is too cold and we have a lamp but I dont think its enough so the next two days are going to be rough.. We were told our baby is not even 2 months old yet. so he's super tiny and im worried that the stress of moving from the store to us and then to my wife's classroom is going to be too much. Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    The only thing I have to say about this Is
    Under the tank heating works well in wooden viv’s this is how I heat my leopard gecko and hog nose snake
    You tape the heatmat inside of the viv at the bottom and place two probes over it one thermostat and one thermometer
    The put a thin layer of substrate Over top of it. I can stress this enough A thin layer of substrate also uk heating mats have no sticky side
    And it will work a charm 😇

    Regarding UVB, it sure helps if you are going to breed hognoses, if you don't have UVB for them and breed the female will lay thin shelled eggs, windowed eggs so to say.

    • @unchartedwild2166
      @unchartedwild2166  Před 3 lety +1

      Good to know!

    • @amybarratt4227
      @amybarratt4227 Před 2 lety

      This happens because hognoses can lay very large clutches. The female simply doesn't have enough resources to calcify them all. This doesn't have anything to do with UVB. Smaller clutches don't have windows, larger clutches usually do. This doesn't hurt the egg or the baby. They hatch out just fine.

    So if I just use a heating light during the day, and turn it off at night, it shouldn’t become too cold in the glass tank for the snake? Would it be beneficial to use a UTH at night and the heating light by day? I keep my home temperature between 68-70 but it’s an older home so different rooms tend to have rather dramatic temperature fluctuations
