Disturbed made a cover of Simon & Garfunkle's The Sound Of Silence & made it their own too. i wouldn't mind if Erasure made a cover of The Sound Of Silence as well & made it their own way. ♪♪♪

Fantastic cover. Andy Bell has such a unique voice that after hearing just a few words you know its him. He's up their with the likes of David Bowie, George Michael, Tom Jones and Peter Gabriel to name but a few.

Not so much a cover but an interpretation. Absolutely brilliant.
After nearly 40 years of listening to songs of erasure, this one keeps being my most favorite one. Men get more sympathetic the older they get, and this video is in my eyes the culmination of their work and presentation. Erasure has - at least for me - become a member of classic culture: Defining reference for a pop music genre.

Usually, the artists producing such outstanding interpretations do this as an exceptional event in their carrier. While Sinéad had produced a lot of songs, only one other of them came near that "Sacrifice" in terms of beauty ("Nothing compares to you"). While Disturbed produced a lot of songs, only very few came near "Sound of Silence" beauty wise.
With Erasure, that rate of "beauty" is somewhat (read: a lot) higher than usual. But they, too, produced a few outstanding pieces, "Solsbury Hil" counting to them.

this song is truly iconic
Big Peter Gabriel fan and never knew this version existed but I can see how it resonated with young LGBT people. Gabriel wrote it about leaving Genesis, even though he still wasn't sure it was the right move. It's a song about giving up everything you know for something that might be better. And fuck yeah, everyone can relate to that.
Doubt he had a choice, he couldn't go on the way it was. IT doesn't always comes out good, but at the time, one feels there is no other way, and the sooner, the better (lest you burn out. Ask me how I know etc.)

+Lincoln Hawks This is the same with me. Erasure was one of the best (beside Depeche Mode and the Pet Shop Boys). I never had a problem with it that Andy is gay. Also this was not so clear in the 80s. But later, especially in this video where he performes in a corset, is too much for me. Now you recognise it immediately in most of his perfomances.

Can’t agree with the 80s being the greatest for pop... I grew up then, too, and a lot of pop was absolute trash. Erasure is one of the bands that proves it wasn’t all bad. Every decade has stuff that sucks.

I used to live around the corner from Peter Gabriel so the orinal was always touching because Salzburg hill is near by too.... 😎 My wife did some architectural work for and and said he was a really nice guy.... Yeah. There aren’t many 80s bands I consider worth bringing along through time (having grown up in the 80s) but Erasure was a keeper.
Being gay is NOT a LIFESTYLE, it's a LIFE. Maybe one day love and understanding will overcome ignorance and intolerance.

I had some relatives introduced me to Erasure’s music by giving me a copy of their “Hits!” album.
This was one of the songs I gravitated towards, not really clicking in my head that it was a cover the first time I heard it. It’s so transformative of Peter Gabriel’s original, it truly stands on its own, not as simply as a “cover song”, I love it.
Gabriel’s is always classic, but you won’t make me think one is “better” than the other. Both versions are great, I’m happy both share a space in the universe together.
A milestone in the building of my musical back bone culture. Even more. Just mesmerizing.

This superb cover is a standout on any Erasure compilation and that is saying something but this video is shocking.
I have too many friends, some of them are gay, but they still friends of mine. Whatever they do with their lives is not my business, they still my friends whatsoever. So the same should apply to Erasure.
So I randomly was thinking of the lyrics to Solsbury Hill. The words just paint a story so well. I know this is a remake but I have always enjoyed this version of the song better. I heard it when I was very young and continued on to listen to it in my adult years. I heard even Sarah McLachlan did a version of it back in the day on her B sides cd. I just feel Erasure is the best version of this song I've ever heard. I want to listen to it again as I'm typing. I also dig this video a lot. Be unapologetically you! That's the vibe I get and I love it!

I love this cover. Being flamboyant, I feel its better than the original but this was the first version i heard when i was 7 years old.
