One of the greatest Opera's for Mozart. This is the English version of the song Papageno Papagena from the movie that was filmed in 2006. Brilliant and creative!
I like the whole film. A nice libretto written by Stephen Fry. The film is situated in the trenches of WO I? Nice work of the director Kenneth Branagh, one of my favourites.
If you mean who they are as actors, I couldn't tell you. But from what I can tell is that from the opera, they would be the 3 spirit boys, who guide Papageno and the Prince on their journey. And if you haven't seen the entire scene, they just prevented Papageno from committing suicide by reminding him of the magic bells he carries.
I do not believe this is the original setting I saw the movie Amadeus and how accurate is it from German translation how do they get the music to fit with English
No shit it's not the original setting. Do you honestly think Mozart predicted the World Wars? It's called an artistic choice. And as for being in English, not everyone speaks fluent German. It's less alienating for it to be in a more widely used language.
It is an adaptation of a public domain masterpiece. This way the director can get Mozart's music and opera closer to the common people. Remember The Magnificent Seven? It is a Western adaptation from The Seven Samurai by Kurosawa, it gets the story closer to the Western Public. Remember A Bug's Life? Well, the story is quite similar. Adaptations are very common in fiction and they can be a good thing.
Mozart wanted The Magic Flute to be in German to get it closer to the people. Now they used English to adapt the opera to the film for the same reason. The original is still there.
Funny you should mention the movie Amadeus - IIRC, the lyrics to the Magic Flute scenes there were in English, which I found extremely baffling...😂 I guess they wanted to make it more accessible for the international audience, but for me as a German watcher it felt very strange. Totally love Brannagh's/Fry's version though!
