@@KrimsonKB If Cuphead can't get into smash then the other indie characters are not an options. Which says alot since Sakurai loves Cuphead. Fun Fact: Shantae wan inspired by Dinsey's Aladdin the game. Donkey Kong was made compete with Disney's Aladdin the game as well which led to Banjo Kazooie. This is why I'm comparing the two because they have similar origins. They also have similar attacks. Shantae's cannon jump functions like Banjo's shock spring jump. Shantae's Harpy form is exactly like Kazooie's feathery flap and tallon trot. Shantae's whip very similar to the rat at tat rap. Shantae's pistol is like Kazooie's breagull baster and Finally Shantae's scimitar dash is as powerful as the wonder wing.

It has to do with the ESRB, if they mention something that has a higher rating than the game it's going into, they have to bump that game up to the same rating. So since Assassin's Creed and Skyrim are rated M they'd have to bump smash up to M
Same thing with devil may cry
Snake is in Smash Bros and at least two MGS games are rated M

That's bullshit. They have broadcasts all the time for multiple games and talk about the age ranges of the games so why not just have the same kind of notices here?

Yeah, no, sorry, but just because you don't know her doesn't mean that the millions of people enjoying her games suddenly wouldn't know either. Shantae is incredibly popular, even Sakurai says so in the video, and if we ever get a new Smash game I can easily see Shantae, Lloyd, and Dante as newcomers.

Her games are high-selling; you know, millions. You're not gonna convince me that people wouldn't know about her. Her games were sold in Japan as well.
AND she has been in more games than Geno, so don't even try make that comparison.
Indie game or not, she has history. Even Sakurai *in the video* acknowledges that these characters are popular and highly requested. So yeah, the whole "indie games have no chance, people wouldn't know her" thing doesn't really hold any weight. If Shantae somehow made it as the last fighter, we would see far more people knowing who she is and celebrating than people go "duhurr who dis"

Honestly I know how it feels whenna fighter becomes a costume back in the day with Rex.
But the more I think about it (especially with Shantae and all): It is not meant as a middle finger or a troll or anything. All the DLC fighters have been chosen already and Dante has been roumored for a long time now. Instead of neglecting their wishes entirely, Sakurai and his team decided to make Mii costumes instead which they have a lot more control over as it seems. Nowadays I see them as addition and not as "F you."
You know something. Ken's voice actor is also the voice of Dante. Same thing with Sephiroth's Japanese Voice Actor. It was a kind of a Missed opportunity that they didn't include Dante as a fighter. Since Ken was the only Capcom newcomer for Smash Ultimate. Maybe Capcom doesn't have enough support with Nintendo. Idk.
PREACH! Shovel Knight, Shantae and Bomberman should've been characters. I bet Shovel Knight will be a mii costume in the next final mii pack, watch it happen haha.

It's because of copyright, to tell the truth, I bet Sakurai wants Dante as much as we were right now, but he just have a problem.
Like Vault Boy (Fallout), Altaïr (Assassin Creed), etc.
It has nothing to do with rated M (because it is dumb to say that considering that Snake, Bayonetta, Joker was in Smash who is also Rated M), and saying that would mean that Fox, Falco, and Wolf can't be in Smash because it was rated E10/T, it's equivalent saying that Ryu can't be in Smash because it was horror and like Star Fox it was also rated T, Sakurai and his team was looking for who has a chance to make it in while avoiding a copyright, not for some rated theories.
So it's likely that they've tried to avoid copyright just a hunch.

They don't use the names of M rated games in these reveals because of the ratings system. It's some weird technicality they have to utilize so that the main game's rating doesn't go up due to the association.
Which doesn't make any sense. The game is still E10 even though it has Snake, Bayo, and Joker, all from M rated games.
Now just imagine how much salt will pour when Mii Fighter Costume Round 11 rolls in.

The unfortunate thing about Shantae is even though she’s been around since the Game Boy Color; I don’t believe her games were released in Japan until 2015 on the 3DS. So while her fanbase is certainly growing in Japan she’s just not as well known over there. At least from what I understand.

ESRB is the reason why they dont use the full franchise logo for certain characters. Also not gonna lie, they're are bigger indie characters who deserve a slot then Shantae im just saying.

i.e. the whole Dragonborn/Dante thing: you can blame the ESRB for that. At least in promotional material like trailers, typically in crossover titles, you're not allowed to explicitly namedrop or show the logo of another game whose age rating is significantly higher than your own, without risking having the game's own age rating bumped up. Given that Smash is E10, and Skyrim and DMC are M...
This policy was put into effect some time after Joker got in, since the Persona 5 logo (and game logos as is) was removed in later promos for Fighters Pass 1 after being featured early on!

@@Johnichu11 this has only been a rule for Ultimate and only since the DLC. So earlier M rated inclusions like Bayonetta and Metal Gear were unaffected

Gotta respectfully disagree about Bomberman being a full fledged character I don't think he would've been flushed out enough for a move set

while I could go into big detail I'll simply say this. Shantae not being a fighter comes down to programming they'd have to do to make her as true to herself as possible (cause while Bayonetta does use her hair it's not in the way the Shantae does.) and the only real Dante that could make sense without being stupid broken would be the one from the Original Devil May Cry as that is the least cluttered mechanics wise (and devil trigger would have to be a final smash attack cause letting it be a in danger mechanic would be unfair due to devil trigger's healing factor). They added so much in the later DMC games that can't be properly translated into Smash (at least in a way where most fans would be happy.)
Now I'm scared that Sora will be a mii costume on the next DLC presentation

while I agree that Shantae does deserve to be a fighter, there are more legitimate characters that deserve a spot before Shantae in my opinion. My theory to why Shantae didn't make it as a DLC fighter is because while WayForward has been hitting it out of the park with the games, I believe her rise in popularity just didn't get enough traction in time for her to be even considered a fighter. Because, and I will admit if I'm wrong, I remember Sakurai saying that all 6 fighters for the second pass were already chosen when it got announced.

Shantae was never going to happen. Indie characters have been getting representation, but Nintendo just wasn't going to devote a whole character to them.
