    Damn...!.......you guys have credentials.......I have looked at rotary for decades.......I worked for a prominent outlaw sprint shop, for years and always promoted turbos....(not compliant with the "winged warriors"...(early 1990's) and had a shitload of "feedback" from my pears.....(lol)...("Roots is where it's at!! ....lol")...it was all good......good men.......spark/fuel management was not to todays standards...........BUT,.....I have always thought......rotary+turbo .............=...........high rev.........good times......."A man's car!"........Of course, Rotary equals "wrenching". I personally think that's the joy of it. .....Run to a drag....wrench on it later.......They are Not reliable compared to conventional "Rod and Piston". .... But, you are not going to get the rpm nor the "broad" band of power. I like wrenching. Do I wanta do it to my daily driver...No.....But, my weekend warrior.....Hell Yes! I love it. I only hope the "Ausie's" and people like yourself, can keep this "Little Mighty" going for All of us to enjoy. Thank You Very Much for the Video's.......Keep it Up!

    Why don't you use US Chrome to replate housings? They have the capabilities and would certainly do it with chromium, electroless nickel, or tricom. Chromium can be put on 20 thousandths thick, tricom can be up to 30 thousandths. Housings could be re-ground to factory finish. This is especially useful for 12A housings and the only solution for 10A housings.

    okay looking good but what about clearances? how good will be compression? and for how long will a housing like this last? do you have to use different apex seal springs for this to work?

    • @rx7specialties203
      @rx7specialties203  Před 6 lety +1

      The amount of material removed is less then .002. This does not effect compression at all. Hosing will last less then brand new of course but will last 2 times longer then if you used a worn housing the way it was. No standard springs.

    adam, question... what are the benefits of re-grinding vs honing them? are they used in different applications in regards to housing damage and do you offer honing too? thanks, and love your videos man keep them coming!

    • @rx7specialties203
      @rx7specialties203  Před 7 lety +2

      Easy..there is no such thing as honing a trochoid . Even if there was it would be highly unlikely that honing tooling would penetrate the hard chrome properly

    Does Mazda still continue to make parts for the older engines? Can you buy a 12A housing for example? I see Mazda kept the casting in the housing for the peripheral exhaust port for the RX-8 housings in your video, does this mean those housings can be modified for use in older 13B's?

    i wanted to see the process, but mainly because i was curious if your making a cross hatch type pattren on the apex seal surface or its its a straight line all the way around, i dont know alot about rotary engines but i find them quite interesting, i am more into diesels, now that being said think its possible to make a diesel rotary? have an injector rather then a spark plug and high compression ratio? xD?

    • @rx7specialties203
      @rx7specialties203  Před 7 lety +1

      No cross hatch on ours no cross hatch brand new from Mazda either. I know a guy who did a diesel rotary. RPI International also did a 580 ci 2 rotor that was built as a prototype for a US military tank project. It was for turbo diesel and kerosene use

    • @leneanderthalien
      @leneanderthalien Před 6 lety +1

      original is nikasil, who was invent by Mercedes Benz for the C111 engine, chrome is a very old method , low cost plating , use normaly in steel or cast cylinder, not in aluminium Wankel housing...

    • @stevecarlisle3323

      @@leneanderthalien Chrome is a "loose" term, the steel liner is electroplated with a low wear metal. Modern jet engines are "hard chrome" plated, maybe with NikaSil, which is a product trade name, not a process, to the best of my research.

I know that is a bit of a tall order, especially when you have to work while you talk, so don't hesitate to do voice-over on bits a and pieces where the footage turned good but the sound/dialogue isn't up to standards.

  • @edwardgabrielsson3724
    @edwardgabrielsson3724 Před 7 lety +2

    could you do some 4-rotor engine builds, and i think your customer base would significantly improve if you had some way of promoting your shop, like racing rotaries that are massive one-offs, or building SEMA-winning trophy engines that make upwards of 1500 hp, every year upping the power, reliability, innovation, and application abilities.
    some story-line rotaries would be awesome too, like something where you buy a really beat-up rotary, and apply it in some sort of high-end application, so that you give you customer/fan base a chance to fall in love with a project of yours, and watch it grow from a beat-up FD to a winning drag engine.
    Just saying, markketing is a big deal when it comes to rotaries, coz there is barely any money earnt in it if your not professionals with high standards, a good customer/fan base, and a good reputation.
    somewhere good to start would be something along the lines of the engine that you previewed in one of your hour-long 3-rotor builds that was your personal own engine, because it shows that 1 you love working with rotaries, 2 you know what's important when it comes to rotaries, and 3 that you can professionally complete a build up within a reasonable timeframe
    another good place to start would once again be a beat-up, run-down FD engine, because although it doesn't show as much that you know your shit, unless you heavily modify it to drag, or whatever, you also show that you can work with anything, literally

    • @rx7specialties203
      @rx7specialties203  Před 7 lety +3

      Appreciate your suggestions. Im personally not a fan of gimic 4 rotor engine kits. These are 13B parts stacked together. Gear support is weak and cooling the back rotors is uneven and crankshaft and bearing problems occur often. I can push a 3 rotor factory engine harder and longer and further then a 4 rotor gimic engine. I have done a 4 rotor and had issues with the eshaft tapers . We do however offer a true 4 rotor all auminum PP road race engine with custom dedicated intermediate housings to hold special gears etc. The issue is nobody wants to spend $50k so we dont market it heavily.

      Cheaper to buy a new housing than rechrome.

    • @NateRist
      @NateRist Před 6 lety +5

      Rechroming cost vs. new housing cost varies depending on the engine it's for. So far goopy is the only one that actually offers rechroming at $575 per housing. Now if you're just trying to ressurect a pair of NA FC housings, then sure, buy new instead of rechroming, but if you're like me and have a 40 year old RX-5 13B which all parts for it are NLA and the only option for new (old stock) housings is priced at $1,000 each (and very hard to find as well), then the resurfacing or rechroming options look alot more attractive. Now i'm not disagreeing with you whether or not new is the most ideal route to go because it is, but alternatives such as these are just more cost effective and perfectly fine depending on the application.
