Rabbits are like humans, they don't get along with every rabbit they meet. It's about finding the right rabbit to fit the personality of the rabbit you already have. That will make the bonding process a lot easier. I'm lucky enough to have an extremely good and knowledgeable rescue near me who understands how to bond all rabbits. Hate when people say their rabbits are unbondable or they get all the attention they need from their owner. An owner can't give a rabbit the same level of attention that another rabbit can, and rabbit actually value their own kind companionship over anything else😊

Yes! I got 2 rabbits and was going off all the information I found online and it damaged my bond with my bunnies. They’re so skittish now, they hate being held, they don’t want you to pet them. They just want you to be around and come up to you when they like it. I got another one from my friend who has kids and the difference is INSANE! Just because they were handled when they were kits and I continued that when I brought her home, she’s so needy. I love it 😂 but now I’m struggling to bond the 3 of them because my other 2 are so skittish.

    • @flackrosanna
      @flackrosanna Před rokem +2

This is so true. Rabbits have preferences and tolerances but they are individuals just like people. There is too much scaremongering and 'online rabbit authority figures' . Like children, rabbits can learn. They can adjust to some extent and adapt. They survive in the wild fgs! They are masters at adaption and adjusting to changes and threat. If u baby them too much, e.g.not ever taking them for more than a 10 minute drive in a car, not keeping them in a standard rabbit cage even for a couple hours, never picking them up, not taking the vaccum out even when ur rabbit is in another room, in my view you are limiting your rabbit's capacity to develop and be adaptable. They won't know the difference between threatening or safe situations if they're wrapped in cotton wool. Like all animals (including humans,) the earlier you start, the better. On my rabbits first car ride, she was scared and wet herself. Three months later, my rabbit travels for 30-40 mins now without stops. No stasis. Eating when she arrives at destination and binkying cos she's out of her carrier. Ivm ready for the corrective and bitter bunny parent responses 😏....

We have done two bonding attempts with our bunnies, the second being a month of 24 hr bonding but we had to stop due to fights and injuries. Currently they live in a ‘duplex’ side by side. I don't agree with stress bonding. Currently I am bonding a third rabbit to my other bonded two. For reference, the bonded two are males, and the third newest rabbit is a female. All spayed and neutered. . I've researched and work along side vets etc trying to find the best way to bond stress free. Although it may seem strange, I'm letting them bond naturally. I monitor for fights etc. But all three rabbits are free roam completely in our house. At night we block the girl off to the boy for safety reasons, but otherwise all day, they are together. . So far, the most I've seen is chasing the girl. Which is normal bunny behavior! It's establishing the relationships of the bunnies. This has worked amazingly. I know it can be hard to believe but really. Their bonding very well. Last night was their first night together, and no fights.

@@leeannmathias8484 Personally we did not. Our exotic vet advised against it since females tend to be more territorial than males and since both boys owned the area, it was better to enforce her being lower on the pecking bunny order. I just got a new bunny for my two year old neutered male rabbit Bear. We took him on bunny dates and he did really well with a neutered male rabbit, Koda. We were doing pre bonding by swapping their enclosures and had them set up in side by side pens with a hip high gate (so roughly 4 ft.) Some days went great with them even laying side by side at the gate but other days it seemed like Bear was hyperfocused on Koda and would honk and shake the gate. We didnt want to move forward until the gate aggression had stopped for a while and they consistantly stayed peaceful. After a week we came home and realized our rabbit had managed to jump over the gate and had attacked our new bunny. He was rushed to surgery and has stiches all over him.😢 We have separated them to opposite sides of the house to make sure Bear cant get to Koda while he heals.
Bear was previously bonded to a male of similar size shape and colour to Koda, but that rabbit passed a year ago due to liver complications. Bear is EXTREMELY smart and knows a few commands, does obstacle courses and can solve any puzzle feeder you put infront of him and is free roamed.
We desperately want to keep Koda and would love if they could bond, but we also dont want to put koda into a situatuon where he could be harmed. We have watched coutless videos on bonding and trying to accommodate with Bear being free roamed, but I wouldve never thought he could scale a gate that high.
If you have ANY advice, we would love it. We are thinking about building a high heavy wooden fence with a door and mesh bottom portion so they can see and smell one another, that we can still manage to walk through (since we struggle and have fallen many times trying to step over our current fence) and that will be high enough he cant jump over or push over. Or simply keeping them apart until we move into a new place...
Sorry for the long text but we desperately want to do the right thing for our babies and make sure theyre happy and safe. Thank you to any one who takes the time to read..

yeah, I'm having the same struggle :( it is a real concern that one rabbit could hurt or even kill another. just like you I was super cautious, but one of my bunnies jumped off its super high fence to attack the other. thankfully I was home and heard the commotion, but they were already fighting. when a fight breaks, it becomes even more difficult to bond them again, and this situation breaks my heart every single day

Yes. This lovely CZcamsr just doesn't know all the facts. Rabbits have extremely delicate skeletons and rabbit fights can cause very serious and sometimes fatal injuries. I have a neutered male rabbit and a spayed female CAT. (Bunny is dominant). They keep each other company, but when bunny chases, kitty can jump onto something high. My cat is completely trustworthy and very sweet - which is crucial!

there are rabbits that are not able to bond with other rabbits due to their situation, for example rabbits that are rescues from backyard conditions where they were preyed upon before being rescued. Just want to share information that are situations that make it impossible, so the most important thing for those bunnies is to provide a safe and nurturing home.

It´s like people who are just not able to socialize with others normally and live live hermits... it´s not healthy or normal but it happens. If people understand this, they will do their best to bond their rabbit with another!

Have you ever had experience with a long-term bonded pair where one starts ruthlessly bullying the other for no apparent reason? I'm trying to decide whether or not to separate them, because they get along fine most of the time, but now that the dominant female is getting along with me, she snarls and chases her male away from me and back to the "nest" under the chair. (Both are fixed and have been bonded for 2 years.) Now when I go to pet the male he flinches because he's so used to all contact being followed immediately by the female biting him. So he cant even accept being groomed by us because she herds and nips at him so frequently that he thinks being touched means he's supposed to move away or there will be consequences. Would you separate them or give them time? And if you DID choose to separate them, which one would you remove from the other's territory for a more successful re-bonding in the future? Sorry for the long comment but thanks in advance for the advice.

one of my rabbits out of nowhere showed symptoms of e.c. and since she's the highest rank in their trio i think she felt like she had to defend her rank so my other 2 wouldn't see her as "weak"... which is why i had to seperate them a couple months ago:( but every now and then i see them all grooming each other through the gate, so i hope rebonding will go well when the time comes☺️🐰🤍

Hi, quick question...if someone you know is mistreating their rabbit, what should you do? As in they are not providing proper housing, care or food for the rabbit. It's condition is so bad that it is matted and has faeces all on its lower side. The living condition of the rabbit is no better than a rotting outdoor wooden cage that is totally covered or filled with poop - which gets cleaned once at most a month or two (if we're optimistic). They also fail to provide a good diet - just some hay only when it looks empty and a piece of veggie when the owners remember to. Also, it is kept outside year-round, regardless of weather conditions because...uh...it stinks?...because the owners fail to care for it properly....so, What would you do? Thanks

I paused at the "I don't think you should be worried about your rabbit killing another rabbit."
I have one rabbit that I am legitimately worried about killing another rabbit. She is a 10+lb Giant Angora. She is spayed, and has been for over a year now. She has been a part of my family since she was 8 weeks old, and she is almost 2. She has had no negative interactions with other animals, ever. She is well-socialized and has grown up coming to my former place of employment as a dementia therapy animal. She loves interacting with people in general. She's more than happy to get pets and love from any human, even babies.
However, she is extremely territorial when it comes to animals. So territorial, in fact, that if myself or my husband comes home after interacting with any other animal (rabbit, cat, dog, hamster, etc.) we have to SHOWER before we interact with her or she will outright attack us. The clothes we wore interacting with that animal will be dug, chewed, and drug all over the house if they aren't immediately put into a basket away from her as well. If I touch those clothes with that scent, or my purse or my husband's backpack within 24 hours of that visit, I have to wash as if I was scrubbing up for surgery. This isn't just a growl and run kind of situation, but one in which she intends to draw blood. We both have scars from this. In the beginning, before I knew why she was behaving this way, if I entered her pen with another animal's scent on me she would corner me and my husband had to help me get out of the x-pen by blocking her off. I could legitimately see her attempting to kill another rabbit during the bonding process. I do not want to see that, and I do not want to stress my rabbit out by bringing a new one into her territory. She has made her boundaries abundantly clear, and I'm willing to respect them. Our intent when we got her was to get her a friend. I do not feel like she is the rule when it comes to rabbits, but she certainly would fall into the exception category and I don't believe she is the only rabbit that would be in that category.
I am just glad that my husband works from home and I am currently not working due to physical disability, so we can spend 90% of our time with her. She has enrichment, access to whatever she needs, and all the love she can handle during her awake hours.

yes, females are extremely territorial, desexed is necessary for any gender pairing

Tell me why I’m still scared of them killing eachother because I’ve learned that it’s a ‘possibility’

As a person who walked in on my second rabbit severely injured by my first . Yes a rabbit killing another IS in fact possible . Everyone needs to stand on their own judgment and experiences . Rabbits have tons of different types of personalities . And rabbit hierarchy is REAL lol

This is why I don’t care for Lorelei with Lennon the Bunny. She adds to the fear mongering. I can’t believe she still says stupid crap like she is afraid Lennon will hurt the other rabbit. Like come on! You claim to be “the bunny lady” yet spread that crap and scare people into having only single bunnies and thinking that is acceptable.
It’s best to go into it with two rabbits but pre bonded through a rescue! I went into it only wanting one but a woman adopting a second bunny for her single bunny talked me into getting a bonded pair to avoid bonding. She wished she would have done that from the beginning.
Now, I am a four rabbit momma now. Unfortunately, bonds are relationships and they can get rocky and a bond between two of them broke randomly so now I am waiting until the new year to bond them all back together. Having to take a week and half off of work for it too.
Love the message you’re sending out to current and new bunny owners! Keep at it!

Rabbits are extremely territorial. She did say in the video that some rabbits can never be bonded but are rare. I’ve watched Lennon the bunny and I have definitely seen her advise getting a second rabbit if you are able so she’s not against bonding? She just can’t bond lennon. Though she has fostered before and I recall seeing some videos where she introduced lennon to other rabbits so maybe lennon has changed?

@@meowstic4981yeah I felt a bit off with Lennon bunny lady. I used to enjoy watching her content, but she is highly judgemental of having bunnies outside, yet has done with Lennon too. Think they were visiting a city or whatever, so they placed him on this tiled ground and there was a building you could see.
Think it was a square of sorts.
Regardless, I just had an off feeling about that and it never felt right to me from that moment on.
I'm sure she loves her bunny or bunnies a lot, but as a spokesperson for bunnies and bunny owners I feel way too conflicted to watch her any longer.

I have 7 bunnies and 5 of them live together free roam peacefully and playfully. The other two are bonded on their own. NEVER have a single rabbit - this is a form of animal abuse in my humble opinion🙏
