Just finished the most difficult bond ever. Territorial female with a lot of fear of everything, a history of trauma, and sight issues that make her instantly box at anything that comes remotely near her face (including the other bunny). I took it incredibly slow (3 entire months of pre bonding, then very slow incremental steps over the next 3 months). They just finished bonding a few weeks ago and they are both so much happier! I’m so glad I didn’t listen to people on a rabbit Facebook group that were telling me that my female was just a loner...she’s so much happier bonded and all the work was worth it!

I have started the process with boy Peter, adopted him 5 months ago, adopted peep a much larger bunny 2 weeks ago, she's not been socialised but us great with people, Peter is understandably excited and enthusiastic about her, she is not. As she is bigger too I worry that her aggression is going to hurt him. I keep them separated but they are next to each other, they eat together and they flop near each, the other night they were grooming in front of each other. I thought they were really making progress, then this morning peep got out through the door, and they had a scrap 😱 post scrap they both ate their breakfast next to each other and didn't seem fazed. Obviously distressing for me seeing them fight and fur flying everywhere. I was starting to think that maybe she doesn't want a friend but after reading your post maybe she just doesn't know what she is missing?!

@@dawnmcintyre9415 I had a similar thing happen when bonding my two! I suddenly heard loud sounds from the bunny room when having a bath, turns out they had escaped into the same area and they got into a fight. Fur flying and all. I separated them and checked for injuries, and honestly it didn’t seem to slow down the bonding process at all after that. Bunnies are just chaos machines đŸ€·â€â™€ïž

Do you think that it’s better to create long stretches of time between bonding sessions with rabbits? I have a territorial girl bun as well and she was having dates with a boy bun for a few weeks and we took him home a week ago. My bf has been trying to have like 2x/day bonding sessions with them but they had a bad fight yesterday so I’m trying to figure out the best course of action

I'm so glad I watched your videos because I'm so new to bunny bonding! I'm going to wait till I can spay the 7 month old! I am currently bonding my two buns! Fluffy is a male, and Coco is a female. They have a 2-3 year age gap, so I was a bit worried, but I noticed that Coco doesn’t see fluffy(who is smaller) as a threat, and on day three, both of them groomed each other! We only did 40 minutes of bonding in total during the 3 days and I think it is so great! I do know that it can all change in a snap, but it’s going well (for now)

It's so funny to me that our little boy (Pinecone) was the only one who humped during bonding, but our little girl (Berry) is definitely in charge now. She'll take treats out of his mouth if we try to give him one first and she always demands that he groom her lol. It was months before I saw her groom him. But they love each other so much and she was the best thing we ever did for him. He's a very shy bun and she is the most outgoing bun I've ever seen. Pinecone is now so much more social and while he's never going to be the kind of bun who wants pets and cuddles, which is fine, he definitely likes head scritches and nuzzles us now.

If they are under 4-6 months that's normal but they need to be spayed / neutered as soon as they are old enough. Just bc they get along now doesn't mean they always will, plus both males and females can get cancer if they aren't fixed

Anyways they HAD to be seperated the last month or two while I was still searching because they started fighting! They've been spayed for 2 months now and still fight and they actually got in a bad one the other day :( (one escaped through our gate into the others space) I've spent months doing research on bonding and I'm having such a hard time, im worried they wont bond because of their fights :( I highly highly suggest to seperate them soon to avoid what I'm going through!!

    Advice needed!
Do you recommend getting the rabbits acquainted by smell/sight first (through swapping toys or putting them in side by side enclosures) or should they meet the first time ever in the carrier?

    • @kiscrazyreptiles
      @kiscrazyreptiles Pƙed 2 lety +1

If you're buying baby bunnies from the same litter it's good to drive them home in the same carrier but I'd recommend sent swapping and cage neighbors if they aren't babies, fixed, and siblings.

Getting my new bunny today. I got my first one in 2021 and was totally unprepared. Had him in a tiny cage with a hanging waterer, no veggies, feeding all pellets.... No free roam time...... Omg it was like bunny prison. I feel so guilty. I finally got him neutered last year. Litter box trained him. I moved to a new house so he could have bigger space. Now he has an 8 by 8 cvc cage instead of a 2 by 2 dog cage. I am getting him a buddy today to start the bonding process and then I'll introduce them to the living room, which I just bunny proofed. Hoping by this time next month they'll be bonded and I'll be free roaming them in the day in the living room. We'll see how they do. I feel like pet stores are proponents of inadequate bunny care because they make a profit from it. Most people aren't ready to rabbit proof their baseboards and their cables so it's easier to push the narrative that rabbits can thrive in teeny little cages. I definitely didn't understand how what I was doing was harmful. Now I'm doing so much better for my bun and he has come alive with so much personality. I'm going to continue with the knowledge you've given me to do better for my bun. Wish me luck! This is the first time I've ever done the bonding process, so I'm nervous. Thanks for your content. Keep spreading the truth about rabbits!

    I had two bonded pairs.
    Timtim and Roxy
    Morris and Willow.
    All about 9 years old.
Roxy died last year of natural causes
Sadly yesterday Morris was killed by a fox. Devastating for Willow as she is blind and deaf. So I made the decision to try and bond Willow and Timtim.
This video is great, so far they have completed the car trip, small box. They have now been in next size up box for an hour and will try hay in a moment. Timtim was a very difficult bunny to bond when the rescue centre did it. So I am cautiously happy there has been a little self grooming and of each other. I am taking it so slowly as Willow can not really live alone 😔 so this has to work!

I'm actually in the process of rebonding my buns. I used to have a trio (didn't last long, so I felt like they only tolerated each other for a month) and since the fighting got so bad, neither of them would eat so I made the decision to rehome 1 of them. Anyways, I'm now back to rebonding the 2 I had, since they were my original 2 and was once previously bonded for a long time, I just can't seem to get them to stop fighting. Like they get along 90 percent of the time with 10 percent of the time they fight, usually if I leave them unsupervised. Neither had any injuries, just fur pulling, but its like they'll do good for hours and when I leave or do something else I hear a fight break loose and its like "I trusted youu". Thats just my thing, this last bonding session went well, and maybe I'll try giving them a smaller space, try the kennel thing, and also be more disconnected, because I always sit a their level during bonding sessions and I stop fights with my hands (with gloves on).

I just got 2 bunnies yesterday. Although I only wanted 1 rabbit, I ended up with 2 because they had been together for over a month in the original families home. One is an EA (3 months) the other is a Fuzzy Lop (4 months). I plan to get them neutered very soon. No fighting at all
but lots of circling and humping. Very minimal chasing. However the Fuzzy Lop does not like to be held, touched, or picked up which I respect BUT he has bitten me 3 times and bit my assistant once all instances unprovoked. We are sitting minding our business and he comes over and bites. It’s not hard
any advice on the bonding of to stop the biting is greatly appreciated

Mine are already bonded (littermate brothers) they are about 3 mos old, and have started doing this to try and work out dominance, so thanks for the tips! I’m really trying to keep them safe doing this, and hoping it gets way better after they’re fixed!
*also- I was just cleaning in their pen and tried using a dustpan, glad to see that’s a good method!!
Also, mine are doing the circling and are taking turns w the mounting.. so ig they’re just both trying to be dominant

Hi guys I just wanted to ask... when do you think is the right time to admit defeat? We have two bunnies. A neutered 10 month old male and a yet unspayed female (the vet said she's too young for it yet). Their personalities are complete opposites. The male is very cautious, smart and thoughtfull and doesn't like touch unless he initiates it himself. The female however is a pretty wild explorer who's climbed to some weird places and likes attention. We've been trying to bond them but it always ends up with the female very close to the ground, lowering her head and thumping, the male chases her, grunts and nips/bites her while she tries to run away from him. We live in a small house, the rabbits both have half of a room to free-roam with a see-through wall between them for now and we take them to a different neutral room for their bonding sessions with lots of treats. My partner always tells me to keep trying and give them more time. But I'm really not so sure about it when a particularly bad one-sided fight broke out yesterday and our male bit my hand and drew blood. I really want to keep trying and bond them, but I'm also worried they won't work out and I don't know what we'd do then.

Maybe dedicate an entire day to bonding time instead of bonding sessions? I’m currently doing this right now with my two stubborn buns and so far it’s going well..also have you tried her advice on keeping the bonding area very small? And taking them on car rides in a bin/basket or carrier pen? I would watch her other longer video in her “bonding bunnies” playlist; I watched it twice to absorb the info and so far my bunnies seem to be making some progress. Sincerely I hope it works for you❀ I know how stressful it can be.

@@Busyfigureskating We don't have a car so I wanted to put them in a bin and move them around with the vacuum on, but once they were both in, they immediately started to fight. We recently discovered that they are both affraid of each other when they are alone in a room (we didn't leave them alone together on purpuse, they were separated both in their own pen) but once one of us comes into the room, the male bunny gains conficence and starts to behave agresively. So far we put their pens next to each other so they can see what the other one is doing and I was thinking about trying table bonding with thee two. If that doesn't work out we'll probably wait for our female rabbit to be old enough to get spayed and then we might try again. And if even that doesn't work out we might think about getting a third bunny, because our female is very socaible and craves attention, while our male is a routine-oriented loner., who like to nap under my desk when I work but runs away from me when I try to pet him. He always needs to be the one to initiate our cuddling time. If rabbits could be autistic I'd say our male checks all the boxes xD

I've been trying to bond a larger bunny with a middle sized bunny.
Now whenever I try to stop then with a dust pan, then larger bunny has started to learn the dust pan is too small and weak to stop him, and the other bunny has learned she can quickly run around the dust pan.
Any advice for something to perhaps replace the dustpan with something that's also light weight, but maybe bigger yet still easy to use.

If they're doing good the first day and they're outside in 80° f temp, do I bring them inside after the 2 hours and separate? Outside is the only neutral area. Is it okay to bring them back inside while putting each boy in the others room? I don't want them in the heat, but don't want to break the bond either.

I don't think my bonding journey will be that easy, but, I'm going to keep trying at it. The older male is neutered, but, he's very territorial and keeps grunting. The younger female has been in her own space but they can see each other but our first attempt (after three weeks of observing each other) to let them actually meet did not go well. They got a little aggressive but I was able to separate them before either was hurt and we can't figure out which one was the aggressor. I've got a long road ahead of me...

I think I’ve completely messed up bonding my rabbits as I didn’t know the process AT ALL. I had one in a hutch, inside the garage that the other one roams
initially she started fighting him through the cage, this did stop
but then today I thought ‘I will see what happens together now’ so just let him out and she started fighting him straight away
obviously I separated them.. but now I’m worried, is it too late to start bonding properly like in your step by step video? I’m worried about them fighting in the carrier!

I don't think only using a dust pan works for anyone who has a slightly aggressive rabbit. Mine were very aggressive at the start of bonding & I needed to use my hands to separate them because a dust pan simply wasn't enough to stop a fight.

Thank you so much for your video, it is wonderful. Do you know what to do with bunnies ( fixed both) that are already bonded for 4 years but now the female is humping him all the time and especially when I or my family is around. The male bunny is a very mellow guy so it could be that she is frustraded because he doesn't groom her enough but her humping him consistently and I don't know what to do. I give them braks to be on theor own and brong them back together at the moment just for a while - like a time out. They are also spending time relaxing though. Thank you

We've moved them into a room with another bonded pair, (they're kept into twos and are seperated) Or could it be possibly by the change of environment and stress?

If your rabbits are siblings, you still need to go through the bonding process. If that is happening during bonding, it is fine, it’s all part of the process. Just follow the guidelines Haley put in the video.

Help! A few years ago I got a solo bunny. Then I moved into a bigger home and thought it would be a good idea to bring two baby sisters into my home too. But I recently moved again and I have a much smaller space. I feel like I can’t properly care for all three due to lack of finances and space. I was thinking about rehoming the two sisters and find a single rabbit to bond with my other 6 year old. Because I really don’t want to separate the sisters. So because of this, I got a new baby bunny to bond with my older one because I was going to rehome the 2. Is this a bad idea? I feel like I made a bad decision and I don’t know what to do, any advice? Should I just rehome the new baby, or the 2 sisters? I hope this made sense

Hi Hailey, I got a female bunny Oct 1 then went back and got the baby sister female. So the bonding process was very easy. The baby was doing the humping at first then stop 🛑 now the older bunny is starting to the baby sister and it’s been lasting all morning today so far.
