I think the greatest thing about this band is not their music, but the fact that they didn't ditch their drummer after he lost an arm in a car accident. That's true friendship and loyalty.
So right
A one-handed drummer that out-plays two handers
Their music is also amazing
The story according to MTV at the time, was that the drummer began figuring out ways to drum one-handed while he was still in the hospital bed recuperating from the accident that cost him his arm. He would tap out rhythms with his remaining hand and his two feet while in bed. That's dedication.
Yeah but then stop and think about the pete willis thing and not so much what happened to the loyalty there they said it was because of his drinking and partying but hell they was all wild back then high n dry .
1983, 22 years old, Bartending at a killer local bar, living with five good friends in a party house with indoor pool, driving a new 1983 Boss 302 Mustang, Def Leopard always blasting, Wow, The best times ever. I’ve tried to tell my kids what they missed. From Atlanta, Georgia. I think I was blessed to experience the best times this world has seen.
It was magical...come on
We didn't know how good we had it
Leopard😂😂
Ummm, they didn't have a boss mustang in 83' but I het where your coming from helluva decade
I went to the Hysteria Tour in 1988. It’s now 2024 and I still love this song and Def Leppard!! ❤️🔥
I went to a concert where Bon Jovi opens up for Def Leppard ❤
@@DevineLove333 I bet that was awesome! I went to the Texas Jam in 1985. Bon Jovi was one of the first acts and everyone was like who’s Bon Jovi?? Haha good times.
I saw Skid Row open for Bon Jovi. I never made it to a Def Leppard show. It hurts. But I went to so many amazing shows in those days. I count myself as very fortunate. Def Leppard was such a gift. All their songs 100% hold up to this day. And they effortlessly connect me to some of the best times in my life...
@@TruthWiz they definitely connect with some of the best times of my life as well. I remember being a teeny bopper, and me & my best friend would roll up into the local pool hall/arcade and the first thing we would do was throw a couple of quarters in the jukebox and put on Rock of Ages. We just had let everyone know we were there and we were ready to party. 🤘🏼😎
Honestly this is such a good song with such good structure and great transitions. It has so much that is good.
If you're listening to Def Leppard on Mar. 22 2024 then your a hardcore Def Leppard fan.
You know it. Listening right now!

Listen to them!!!
OMG!!!
When I hear this song, I’m overwhelmed with the feeling that we don’t realize we’re living the best days of our lives until they’ve long since passed. I was 17 and a junior in high school when this was a huge hit. I was in such a damn hurry to grow up and leave all the teenage “bullshit” behind. Now that I’m all grown up, 52 now, I’d give anything to live these days once again.
Amen Gordon. Well said sir, well said indeed. This song just has that reflective vibe and if you were 17 as I was when it was popular, you are transported back to those halcyon days of the 1980s.
ME TOO.,BEST DAYS IN MY HEART
True but out all the generations early rock Bill Haley and the following generations didnt let us down but the crap some these new bands are churning out depressing but hey at least we keep the dreams alive but coming here first girl I ever kissed was to this song :)

my mom said that this song brings her beautiful memories on her youth
My dad loved Def Leppard. He passed away last May and now when i listen i feel nostalgia and sadness and happiness all at the same time. Love and miss you daddy.

This song has that effect on a _lot_ of people. Sorry for your loss.

We are getting really old, but you're completely right. The 80s,also the 90s fantastic musical periods ❤❤❤ Wish we could turn the time back to that area 😢
Me too....and the 70's
Yes, I too miss the 80's. It was a great decade to grow up in. Things were much simpler then.
You said it bro
I can't explain enough, how happy I am to have been born in '81. I'll never forget these hit songs as a little kid. I really do feel fortunate......
I feel you man, best music era. I’m also an ‘81 baby.
Я родился 79 из Украины и тоже для меня музыка из детства🖐️👍
The neighbors were always playing this and many other rock songs with the garage door open changing the oil. This was one of the songs playing.
81 baby as well. My memory is clear from back then. I’m glad, it was pure magic.
My first son was born in 81. So for me, I was too busy being a newlywed, new mom, etc. So I am now lucky enough to have that whole decade of "new songs" to listen to!!! Soooo much better that the crap they call "music" today!!!
I’m so glad I’m not the only one in love with and haunted by this beautiful piece of music. ❤ the 80’s ruled!!

I'll always love the fact that Allen stayed in the band after his accident. That's a real band, real friends, real musicians.
Truth.
Still, it's a lucky fit: the drum style and his accident. Not fancy, but he did a fucking good job in the style.
I always opened at my job when i was at Fridays and i would play my music while we set up for the day. I was plaing rocket before shift meeting and my boss overheard it and was like is that Def Leppard and i was like hell yeah, then we proceeded to talk about the drummer losing his arm and how we both love this band. I love talking about music with people who have similar tastes. It was the Fridays that was hit by the tornado in (correction) 2017.
Yeah, they are true brother s that care about each other instead of all about money. They waited for Rick to recover and learn to play again. Not many bands would do that.
@@johnyandell8948 thats how you know who your true friends are. I also doubt Rush would get back together with the lost of Neil

There are certain 80’s songs that give me an overwhelmingly painful and bittersweet sense of nostalgia. This is definitely one of them
Same here. Lots of memories (both bitter and sweet) linked to that song (and the album). Fun, friends, girls - some of them long gone and buried.
The strange part is - in the 80s I always had the feeling that it is a "special time". Still don't know exactly why. Maybe it just was the youth.
Now, over 30 years later, I know it was not only "special", it was a magical time! Do I want it back? Probably not. But the memory will always put a smile on my face...

When "Hysteria" released, I was a teen and to this day, it has always kept that 80s nostalgia feeling alive. I wish we had a theme park dedicated to the 80s decade with all of the nostalgia of music, movies, TV shows, MTV, clothes style and the way we lived to have fun without the use of cellphones/internet.
Look around ~ the styles are on the way back. However, as the saying goes " if you wore it the first time around, you're to old to wear it again" That being said, hey! It's your life, do, say, wear whatever you want to! Have fun with it!

My hat goes off to Rick Allen most drummers would've retired but his perseverance and love for the drums helped him over come such tremendous odds Def Leppard is on my top 10 playlist when I drive long distances
Hats off to the rest of the band for keeping him!! Most bands would have kicked him aside and moved on with a 2 armed drummer. They made the right choice. Proves their loyalty too. Not much of that in bands.
ed pettit most would have hung it up after they left that girl behind in the ditch at chappaquidick. what..? he lost an arm in the incident yet Mary Joe Kopekne lost her anal hyman and eventually her life!
He almost did quit. the Band kept his spirits up so he could figure out how to keep doing what he does now.
Ed Petitt and just think Journey turned their back on Steve Perry who helped make them famous when he broke his hip..

At age 47, I look back at all the bands and ballads of the 80s and very early 90s and while I was a huge scorpions, Crue, skid row, Aeorosmith, Queensryche and GnR fan (along with so many others) I honestly think this was both the best BALLAD AND that they were the best BAND of that era.
They pulled off the working class hard rock songs as good as any or better than most while also being great at the prettier sounding melody type rock songs....Up tempo or slower, makes no difference...LIsten to the whole High n Dry album and it's so hard rocking, but they threw in "Bringin on the Heartbreak" which was different but still a great rock song and it certainly was the first example by them that showed what they could do in addition to songs like High n Dry, Let it Go, Mirror - Mirror, ect.

Truer words have never been spoken!!! I agree!
that is not lost upon some of us ... if i told you about the way me and my friends live (18 ish) youd be quite shocked and surprised. i can agree that a lot of kids nowadays are so boring and so vain but there are quite a few cool people... guess it depends where you live too
@Otto Fetting i fully agree on that too.
@Otto Fetting yeah like WW2 like my dad, I don't think so.
How i wish i was born in the 80s
We keeping it oldschool 2024
I was born 1991, yet this song carried me out of my difficult time past 2 years, somehow I felt that my soul wasn't born in the right time 😊
Your soul was born in the right time don't forget this
Simply some of the best music ever produced, will live on forever.

The eighties were seriously the best time to be a teenager. 100% with you about being blessed to be a part of it.

I’m 22 years old and I love Def Lepard. This is real music 🤘🤘
My 5 year old granddaughter is absolutely in love with Joe Elliott. Child after my own heart. She refused to go to sleep as a baby so I played Def Leopard and she was asleep in seconds lol. Keep on rocking
There will never be a decade like the 1980s again..😥
Absolutely agree with you.
Miss the 80s.

The drummer refused to let the band move on. He worked his ass off to relearn the instrument and kept his job
