Installation Video of Double Action Spring Hinge

This video will highlight Installing double saloon doors with ommercial grade spring hinges.

Featuring Swinging Cafe Doors 3” commercial grade spring hinges in a gloss black finish.
The doors are the Colonial Raised Panel Saloon Doors available exclusively at Swinging Cafe Doors.
You will need to Choose the quantity and size of spring hinge based on each door thickness, width and weight.
For this application each door requires 2- 3” Commercial Grade spring hinges
Always pre-drill all holes.
You will need
instructions for reference,a Drill, 3/32” drill bit, Phillip Head bit for drill, pen or pencil, tape measure, and level
Step 1: Release Tension- To get started you will need to remove the tension from the spring hinges. Once you have removed the pins, be sure to keep them, they will be needed later.
STARTING WITH THE LEFT SIDE DOOR
Step 2: Top Hinge- Take the 3” hinge and mount to the door. Measure 3 inches down from the top of the door, mark location with a line. Take the hinge and mate the door flange side of the hinge to the door. Align the top of the barrel to the 3 inch mark.
Be sure to have the tension adjusting holes up on the left door and down on the right door.
These hinges can be mortised or surface mounted. In our application these will be surface mounted. Make sure the door is square on the hinge’s door flange. Now mark the location of all holes on the hinge’s door flange using a pencil or pen. Take the drill and Pre-drill all holes using a 3/32” bit. Once all the holes are pre-drilled. Attach the hinge to the door using screws included.
Step 3- Bottom Hinge- The same process is required for the second hinge that installs at the bottom of the door.
Measure 7” up from the bottom of the door and make a mark at this location.
Be sure to have the tension adjusting holes up on the left door and down on the right door.
Take the hinge and mate the door flange side of the hinge to the door. Align the bottom of the barrel to the mark. Mark the location of all the holes. Make sure the door is square on the door flange.
The axial center of each hinge must be vertically aligned.
Take the drill and pre-drill all holes using a 3/32” bit. Once all holes are pre-drill Attach the hinge to the door using screws included.
Step 4- Attaching the Door to the Jamb.
Attach the hinges to the center of the jamb. Mark a centerline on the door jamb for reference. Measuring from the finished floor, mark the proper location for the bottom hinge.
Mark the location of all the holes on the hinge flanges. Take the drill and pre-drill all holes using a 3/32” bit. Once all holes are pre-drill Attach the hinge to the casing using screws provided.
The screws included are meant for attaching directly to wood. The hardware must attach to a solid surface, please make sure the hinges are secured.
Step 5- Add tension to hinges. Place the door in the closed position and wedge up until the door is plumb. Insert tension rod into the adjustment holes on the tension lug.
On the left door with tension holes up, insert tension rod and turn towards the left to add tension.
On the right door with tension holes down, insert tension rod and turn towards the right to add tension.
We recommend starting with 2 holes of tension on the top hinges.
1 hole of tension is recommended for the bottom hinges.
Adjust tension on the top hinge if the door sags or return action is too slow. Do not exceed 5 holes of tension on the top hinge.
If you are installing double doors you will need to follow steps 1-5 for the additional door.
Tip: Carefully measure so the doors mount directly across from one another.
Depending on your application, Alignment adjustment might be required, you can place shims behind the door flange to help with alignment issues.
