Would he need to worry about that, if the table stays inside?
Ive built a similar table a few years ago, actually it was 3 nest set.
Havnt had any issues with splitting or anything.
The varnish developed hairline cracks withing the first year.
But after sanding down and revarnishing, its been fine.

You should show us in a few years time how well this table holds against wood movements.
Because from what I see you don't allow any.
Depend if the wood was dry enough.

@@patriciaoudart1508 You are correct when it comes to the initial drying process, but the wood will also expand and contract from season to season every year after that. A table this long can easily see a few mm worth of total movement along its length. Either spaces will form between some of the slats or the corner joints will separate from the stress.
