I had almost the same coat, purchased in 1978 at H Salt in Washington DC. I wore with pride for several years, but not often after moving to southern California. Eventually, I grew out of it and gave it to a cousin who moved to the midwest. A truly lovely coat.
FWIW, I would pair it with a dark gray hat, dark grey or black gloves, and a ivory silk or navy or dark colored tartan cashmere scarf for a truly elegant winter appearance.
This is more a garment for Chicago or New York than for Dallas or Los Angeles, cities where public places are provided with checkrooms to contain heavy outer clothing while visitors are shopping or enjoying performances.

I have a very heavy double breasted dark brown wool topcoat that I inherited from my father. He had it made when he returned from WWII. It is in great shape and no doubt will last for generations to come as long as I keep moths away. I am only truly appreciating it recently, and it will come in handy in NYC this winter. This topcoat reminds me if it and is outstanding. Mr.Joe H is truly an impressive gentleman. Thank you for the enjoyable video.

I have my great uncle’s tailcoat from the 1930’s. It has a concealed pocket in one of the tails which is still easy to reach. You can put something quite bulky in there without pulling the shape of the coat. Apparently it was common to put a pocket in back flaps of coats (my Uncle was a tailor himself). I don’t know why this is no longer done.

Just love the coat Kirby..... is really beautiful, loved the shots and style at the end of the video, I hope you don't take this the wrong way for me... I would have created more contrast, i.e. grey trousers, and grey gloves, or a burgundy colour gloves matching your shoes which are classy, the scarf was just beautiful with the navy blue topcoat... This coat is very much for me a British Navy inspired look and would look good on the any of the Royles... topcoats are a garment that you can get away with not being bespoke as the fit can be a little off, but i think you have made the right chose, really classy, beautiful coat.. love it

I had a double breasted wool overcoat by Canali about 3 years ago but I had to give it to the charity shop because I’d gotten too fat for it. At one point just after I first got it, I had to check the label because I was sure it had a fair bit of Cashmere blend in it. I was wrong though but I was amazed at how very soft it felt to the touch. My next two clothes purchases will be of a navy blazer and a belted tweed overcoat.

Great coat K! All you're missing now is a nice pair of DRESS BOOTS to wear with. Frankly the look at the end of the video looked a little ridiculous with loafers, and I've noticed you have not yet gotten any dress boots (otr or bespoke) in your collection. I know Dallas doesn't require them but they're a cool seasonal addition that helps balance out an outfit proportionally between outerwear, hat and shoes, and they can be stylish as hell. So maybe now's the time for some balmoral or derby boots?

That's a very good looking topcoat. Spot on. But the trouser is too long for my taste.

What is the point of those buttons on the front? Decoration?

It’s double breasted which gets inspiration from military uniform. The purpose is to fold more fabric over the torso. But yes the upper buttons are just decorative I believe

My overcoat costs $21,000, which is more than 10 times more than this. What a great value it is!

Not sure I would have gone double breasted as it's difficult to dress down. Maybe a P-coat you could double breast. I disagree that it is for everything. This is more formal.

I fell in love with this piece until he flipped the collar up and the. I became disappointed. As I’ve mentioned before (in the comments of another video) I am a frock jacket man. There’s nothing like a functional double breasted frock as not only does it look nice with the collar up but that top lapel buttonhole when buttoned over across to the other Shoulder turns the coat into a Chinese collar and takes the coat to a higher level and I don’t see that ability with this one . I also like my lapels buttoned open on both sides all the way down , giving the top coat the classic or romanticized “pirate” look really accentuating the A frame cut of the coat as you walk down the street. I started wearing my own in the early 2000s in NYC while others were wearing those sack looking coats and within a few months other frocks started appearing everywhere. My Uniqueness was short-lived but Absolutely nothing beats the look of a classic British Frock (with the two bottoms in the back).
