  • Hey everyone, today is a special episode! Jon King runs the website called, “San Jacinto Trail Report.” It’s an absolute must-view for anyone who intends to take on the San Jacinto mountains as it provides detailed commentary on what the weather is like, what the trail conditions are, and what gear to bring. He also posts videos and pictures to provide visuals as well. Without a doubt, Jon has helped a countless number of people become more aware and more prepared by volunteering his time and energy on San Jacinto (at least 1,000 hours/miles annually). He deserves our utmost gratitude! If you can, please consider making a donation to Jon because the information he continues to provide is absolutely priceless!

    Back in 2005, my thru-hiker class lost Seabreeze as he lost the trail going into Idyllwild, in late April. A bunch of years later some lost folks found his body and backpack. I was in waist deep snow in late May but made it through. It gets real up there.

    Hi Second Chance.
    With your 200 lbs. weight loss goal while hiking the P.C.T., I hope you are not forced to remain stagnant on the trail.
    Just my opinion, if you have the resources, get yourself to a safe section of the trail a.s.a.p. and continue sweating your ass off everday.
    We are rooting for you so much in Detroit and looking forward to hearing from the Luv Dr. :-)

    Best video yet SCH! Keep up the great work. We are all pulling for you. Your willingness to stick it out is inspiring. Remember the words of Calvin Coolidge, “Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not: nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not: the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan “Press On” has solved and will always solve the problems of the human race.”

    Thank you for posting this update. I know there are a lot of hikers out there that will be coming up to this section in the coming wks & not all of them are aware of the conditions. I’ve been carrying an inreach for yrs as well, especially after starting to backpack solo. I personally saw it used for a rescue last year on the Pct & had a friend that had to use one last yr in the Sierras. It’s well worth the money.

  • @surfk9836
    @surfk9836 Před 5 lety +5

    Dude you're killing it! Great interview and info! The best advice was to know how to use your microspikes, crampons and ice ax. Would you try to fly a plane without instructions? Self arresting after falling on your back and sliding head first requires training and PRACTICE.
    The funny thing is if a warm storm comes through alot can melt. But then if it chills at night, ice becomes a major concern. Go figure.
    Flipping ahead to Cabazon north, then heading back to flop later is a consideration to continue adding miles and keeping the mojo flowing. Keep it up!
