Mark is changing the game a little bit lately and I'm loving it
likewise ✌️
Ya I was getting sick of the constant LA and West Virginia crap
@@stevesharpe3370 well u can go do your own interviews, nobody here cares what your tired of
He’s diversifying his interviewees and locations, I’m all for it 👍🏼
Piers Morgan did something similar
These interviews remind me what to avoid and see the value of living a peaceful life to stay out of a world of trouble.
Right?
right
My childhood is a compilation of these videos. I feel blessed to have had made it out of it. I know that a momma is so important, band a daddy too. However a mother walking away from her babies, Don't end well. The pain we live with and struggle with is for a lifetime . .. is in 97% of these. God bless all of you ❤️
Avoid all negativity.
That’s great, but some people aren’t cut out for the square/boring life. He can literally say he lived his life and had a good time. Not a lot of people can say that.
From street prostitutes and criminals, hillbillies, homeless people, transgender Thai prostitutes, and now inmates...Mark does it all! He allows people many of us would never encounter (or want to in some cases) to reveal themselves. This work really reminds me of our common humanity.
I love me some lady boi's
The captions definitely helped.
That is the most honest response I’ve heard “I don’t think I’ve learned much of nothin” 😂😂 I feel it man
I've always wanted to see a prisoner interview like this
He will get out June 27
@jimbofischaboi was just going to suggest that. This guy just broke probation for pissing dirty. He's not in prison, he's in the county jail. Lmfao
There's tons online.
@jimbofischa bro, it’s mad hard. They don’t let just anyone in there to do interviews. There’s some build up and work before you arrive at prime time.
@@ebeneezerscrooge2942 I hear ya
There is a guy who knows exactly where he is in life, how we got there, and is comfortable with all of it.
He knows there is one person in charge of his life and he excepts it
seem pretty lost to me
Kids all over the place, in jail, uses drugs, and he wouldn't change it. That tells me all I need to know about him. For adults, having 6 kids, there is a responsibility to them and to be a good role model. He fails at life and parenthood. He didn't have the guts to step up and be a man.
@betsybabf748 well said!
I'd love to see an entire channel on these types of interviews. Mark, you are doing great work.
You are right now on a channel with 1000's of thoses 🤔

GH reminds me of my brother. "I don't reckon I learned much of nothin." Speaks volumes. GH outlived my brother too. I'd wish him luck on the outside, but he only knows one way of doing things so good luck to everyone around him.
Sad....I know the life... I lived it fir 25 yrs,the drugs lifestyle... served almost 8 inside jails and prison...Praise God he changed me,took all them chains of addiction off me and lifted me out of the mire.. now I'm 5yr clean..still rebuilding this life I destroyed... day by day life awesome now
Congratulations on your sobriety. I pray you stay sober and have many blessings
Thank you for the praise report 🙌
Congratulations man! I will have eight years clean this year in December. Yes I know it is one day at a time but I’m not going anywhere. Thank you narcotics anonymous for saving my life.
love you man, keep doing u. God has His plan
Mark is really crushing it as he evolves. Keep it up man your content has been my go to for years now
He is in his element. Mark continues to dig up a broader range of interesting and lovely people. Selfishly, I wish he’d get back to Rebecca soon just for an update that she is ok. I do however love that Mark and his gal pal are traveling to some cool and interesting places. It must feel good to be Mark, found happiness and adventure…in work!
Hardest working man on CZcams
I watch one interview every day before getting out of bed. When Mark uploads 2 videos a day it’s such a treat!! I have a reason to stay in bed a little longer
With how many people there are in the world, SWU will never get old - so many lives being lived. Even the ones that seem similar, reasons/factors can always different❤️
Very insightful comment, I agree!
Great integration into your channel with inmate interview.
You have such a kind soul...
It breaks my heart to hear these East Kentucky men and women talk about their drug abuse .
I love it, it just shows that it's not just inner cities, brown, or black folks either.
It’s everywhere down there. Mingo County, WV, which you know is nearby is destroyed also. 😢
It's sad, his mother has a lot to answer for........ 😢
@@waynecrothers9441 and his father?
Mark is fine tuning these interview questions and his rapport with his interviewees to capture humanity; What is is for these people to be human; Their trials and tribulations, their nature vs. Nurture (or lack of the latter) their choices on what to do with the hands they are dealt and where that takes them at this time. Sometimes it ends in true self reflection or a positive outcome for them. This content is one of the most unique and important peices of raw, gritty, visceral documentation in history (and her story).
Well said, very well said! 💖💕💖💖🔥

Finally someone says that they haven’t learned much of nothing !!! I keep waiting for someone to say they haven’t learned anything yet or they haven’t learned anything and it happened today✌️❤️ I really do appreciate when people are honest and it’s tough to do in so many of these situations 🌹
I was coming to the comments to write the same thing!
@@marthalouise701 hahaha 😊✌️
Yes, coming to say the same thing too. I’ve often wondered why Mark even asks that question because it’s embarrassing listening to most people come up with some bullsh-. I can absolutely appreciate this man’s honesty here at the end.
He has no regrets. For him, prison and things going wrong is just part of a normal life. It's kind of sad, but the dude's just not very bright.
@@mark3p right. I think he said something about prison just being part of it. I was surprised that he was married so many times especially outside of Kentucky because I could hardly understand the words coming out of his mouth
Mark is getting some gnarly interviews dude. Hats off to the man. He is traveling a shitload to get these videos for us. Thanks a lot brother.
I love the prison/jail interviews…please continue to do more of these
I respect GH more than most folks who Mark interviews that do EXACTLY what he does, and that’s because he’s at least accountable. Accountability speaks VOLUMES about a man; or about anyone, for that matter.
Yeah I could stand being around him cause he's honest
AMEN brother. Accountability is next to Godliness!
he's in prison, your word is basically all you have in there believe it or not (not that it is an environment of trustworthy people! lol)
you need to be able to read people
Accountability in that he blames his drug use on everyone around him? Or that he says he doesn't regret wasting his life away between drugs and prison? You have a strange idea of accountability.
He chooses not to be in recovery and change his life. He chooses to drink and use and it keeps sending him to prison. That's the reality here.
So he gets sober, but still can't get a job because of his criminal history. What else is he going to do all day?
I wish he would come to Oklahoma and come interview our Native elders. I could introduce you to something the Nation needs to see.
I found mark’s channel from a friend. Such a creative creator, I really appreciate how much diversity mark is able to portray within the people he interviews and his style is unmatched. Thank you mark for your work, it’s amazing .
@jimbofischaboilol yeah, profound
@jimbofischa He's more creative and has more to say than anything I've seen from your comments.
What would you change? "I wouldn't change a damn thing." Golden.
Inmate interviews are a fantastic idea.
A man who truly, genuinely does not give a single fuck about anything except enjoying his life the way he wants to. Got to respect it in a way.
What I like in this channel, is the way to interview is at a perfect balance : not being intrusive, not doing drama. Interviewing in a way to know better who are these human beings, and what they have been through. Without judging ❤
I would love to see more interviews with ex military people who have combat experience. The ones you have done were so fascinating!
This man and his experiences, hit home for me. Growing up in the south is a diffrent life. Its not duplicated anywhere else. Im nealry 40 and was born and raised in the mountains and hollers of east Tennessee and western NorthCarolina. Ive been all up and down the eastern seaboard. Seen the biggest of cities and sat in the cul de sacs of the darkest hollers. We still live slow around here. Mark brother its been 7 years since i found you, youve never let me down. I truly believe your the best. Ive studied your work , no one hasbthe drive and ethic like you. Your photography is unbelievable , and your journalism is untouched. Thank you my friend.
My mom had 2 alcoholic parents..her mom died of complications from alcoholism when she was 2 years old and her dad of the same when she was 15. My mom has never done anything but work hard and take care of my brother and I. Life is about choices. She’s a grandma and great-grandma now and leaving a legacy of healthy, loving people…totally changed things.
I wish this guy and many others could’ve chosen the same.
I think losing his mama was what was so traumatic to him and his brother who committed suicide.
I agree. It’s a choice. I was raised in bad circumstances. I’ve had my ups and downs but I know that I’m a good mom and I try my best. Never done crystal meth or been in jail.
Love the subtitles
Proof that what seems like a nuisance to an adult and a crisis to a child, holds the same weight as that of a crisis for an adult. A mothers love or lack therof can play a big role in life outcomes. Father figures too…
You a wierdo
What a character. I literally laughed out loud twice so far!
Mark I'll tell you why drug use is so big in Appalachia. Because in the late 90s around 97-98 doctors started popping up everywhere in all these small towns. And kids were getting pills, they were everywhere and lots of them. Paintsville, the small town I live in, in Johnson County had outstanding graduating classes in the late 80s and early 90s and for the most part.... besides drinking and smoking a little bit... that was all that really went on here. Everybody hung out at the plaza getting into whatever, and then here comes all those doctors. It used to be car wrecks that killed everybody left and right here, my freshman year is when it really started. I lost so many of my best friends that I had grown up with due to car wrecks but then after the doctors came , it was all overdoses and doctors were prescribing methadone with Xanax it's like they purposely were injected here in order to cause chaos and to kill the children in these small towns knowing there isn't much here and to have anything you pretty much have to move away or marry someone that's family is part of the elite of Paintsville. And of course there's a lot of poverty here because the coal mine started shutting down. My dad lost his job when I was 8 years old in 83 and we eventually lost our big house and had to move into a small house in the middle of town. So yeah instead of going on to college which I should have done but I was so tired of going to school and so tired of the corruption in our system, teachers having affairs with students I won't get into that but it was okay if you were a certain somebody. And I ended up staying here like I said and eventually got into taking pain pills and nerve pills because my husband used me as a punching bag so much that I had to take something. Of course he waited until I was pregnant with our first child before he laid a hand on me and I felt trapped I didn't want to admit that I'd messed up in my life and wanted to make everything look like it was perfect. But it was far from perfect and we both eventually got to taking prescription drugs a lot. It was a way to make money you could make so much money and pay your bills and not have to worry. His job just wasn't enough and I stayed at home with the kids because he didn't want me to work. But yeah I've moved to North Carolina and stayed there for about five years but I'm back here now and everybody who isn't dead is on dope. I've lost so many people here the last straw was when I lost my fiance who was my best friend in high school, and we got together twenty years later, and we were so happy. So I met a younger man and moved off and I'm back now I'm still with who I was with but all my friends are dead and I don't want any friends here because they're all on drugs. But my family is here and my three boys are here and they are starting to have families and I want to watch my granddaughters grow up. It's just a shame... even further south along Appalachia.... same thing. Small towns injected with pill doctors years ago. Got everyone hooked, and now everyone is in clinics, methadone or subuxone... or on dope. We've had a few super successful people come out of Johnson County , I was even super good friends with a famous one now... but after that when the doctors moved in... they left dead kids everywhere. They didn't care. It's almost like it was planned to move through Appalchia and further destroy it.
A great story but should be edited to make it easier to follow the narrative.
Amen, Carrie! I blame the pharmacists, and doctors! Many who died or even used were coal miners, mechanics, grocery store workers, young moms, kids who played high school and college sports. It wasn’t your typical local drug user! That’s why it went on for so long! I grew up in southern WV and I have watched it destroy Logan County, Mingo County, Wyoming County, Boone County and Lincoln County over the years.
@Suzy Bailey-Koubti exactly 💯
And yeah I voice texted that and was just kind of thinking out loud. Lol Not really an author @Adria Moffatt LoL 🤣
Damn right it was all planed. The 'doctors' were sent in to create the chaos. The government's controllers run the illegal substances, but we're supposed to believe that the 2nd biggest business in the world is run by inner-city losers who never finished school. We're supposed to believe that they are capable of running a business so smoothly that at any time on any street corner in the world their product is readily available at a cost low enough for all of the locals to be able to afford. We're supposed to believe that the powers-that-be would allow these outsiders to control that much of the world's wealth. We're supposed to believe that 4 years was adequate time to take down Germany, but 40 years of a war-on-"D" can't stop a few scary Colombian kingpins. We're supposed to believe that the war on "D" is because "D" are bad for you, but you're allowed to pickle yourself with alcohol all you want. We're supposed to believe that imprisoning vast swaths of society in the name of the war-on-"D" is worth the damage done to families when their loved ones go to prison. We're supposed to believe that the war-on-"D" in anything BUT a new form of slavery, a new form of totalitarianism, a new 'justification' for the removal of peoples rights, a new way to oppress certain segments of society, a new tool for fear-mongering in a world where the whole political system operates by pandering to a falsely perceived fear of ones neighbours and fellow countrymen.
it does seem on purpose by j-ish sackler family who owned oxycontin patents x also a patent for suboxone. they'll sell you the disease x the cure. i'm sorry you went through all that, i had fun w/ opiates in my younger days. til it stopped being fun x my copping partners x friends died. i don't blame the j's for my issues but all the people who started on pills, i do.
Your channel is undefeated. All the variety of videos is amazing

What I love about your Channel. Is everyone has a story. And no matter what part of the Country we may be from. Lots of individuals stories about their backgrounds, family etc are all very similar.
Really like the new variety of interviews. These portraits of people from all walks of life are so interesting.
Prison ages you about as fast as cancer.. He’s 61 and looks 81 and that’s normality in the system. Appreciate the freedom you have and don’t ever do anything to have that taken, because your soul goes away with it.
Stay safe, Mark. Your doing great things. You're loved❤
Love the change of scenery and lighting. Hiring someone from the south to do the southern subtitles might be best imo. A few things were translated incorrectly and I only comment on this because your videos are a huge inspiration. Keep spreading love and truth.
At least he is honest about his life. It's sad he didn't have his mother in his life. It just shows us how important having a dad & a mom in our lives helps us. I truly do pray for him & pray he can turn his life around before he ends up dead.
When he mentions about his mom and she said she was sorry, I started to feel bad for "young GH." His mother leaving the family definitely impacted GH and his siblings.
Mark , I've worked in a county jail 21 years, the one thing to take away is you can be anyone you want in jail. Good ,bad or indifferent.
Mark is stepping up the game👍🏽
great interview. these Appalachia interviews are very enlightening, them being in the heart of the older parts of the American industrial areas. reminds me of farrel dobs in Minneapolis in 1934 with the teamsters. just fighting to make a living.
I wish this one was longer, great interview. I’d love to hear some of his old bar fightin stories.
Thank you Mark for the subtitles

That fella was quick of the mind and succint like I have never heard before. I liked him alot. He has a very unique brain.. I am not sure what that gift is good for but I'd imagine his ability to dial in to the heart of a matter in one moment then spit out the point a moment later would carry over to something very special on many other levels.
