What's your take on the Hardest Geezer controversy? 🤔 Do you think Paris' water quality will improve in time for the Olympics? Let us know your opinions in the comments below! 👇
If you look at the maps of the other two they simply did not run the entire length. That would be like saying running from California to Mississippi is the entire width of the U.S.
Just wanted to say anyone who runs the length of Africa is a legend, doesn't matter if he's the first or not - what an achievement!
It's triathlon so the water quality will be magically clear on the morning of the race...and it'll be a wetsuit swim
Its basic geography. Cairo to Cape is not the entire length of Africa. We all in Africa know this. For those who do not know Africa, just look at the map. Very basic. The previous people did a great job running through a big part of Africa, but it is by no means the entire length of Africa. To claim that is non-sensical. Everybody is in awe in what the previous runners did, but rather hand Russ the recognition on facts. Facts do not have feelings....
The other guys did not go point to point. Hardest Geezer did. Thus, the other two did not run the ENTIRE length. Northern most and southern most.
it is certainly a tricky subject to get into. Either way, wow, what an achievement by everyone who has done it!
It’s not hard to understand north to south aside he did in fact run the entire length unlike previous attempts which are very impressive. It comes down to the definition of the word length which is the measurement or extent of something from end to end; the greater of two or the greatest of three dimensions. russ was aware that there had been successful attempts to run across Africa but nobody had successfully ran the entire LENGTH. ❤
@@gtnRuss talked about this guy on a podcast with Cody ko 10 months ago. He knew about this guy and what he did
If somebody tells you they ran the entire length of Britain, who doesn’t assume they mean LE to JOG. I wouldn’t expect Portsmouth to somewhere random on Scotland’s north coast personally (even though that’s still be impressive obvs)
@@gtn Not really though is it? It's not semantics, he literally ran from southern tip to the northern tip of Africa.
The difference is the Hardest Geezer ran the from the most southern point to the most northern point, meaning the entire length of Africa. Take a look at the map of the other record, it is well off!
Maybe we should get Mark and James to try and attempt the run😂 What do you think?
@@gtn or you could look at a map, retract what you've said, and donate to the charities he's making money for? 🤡
@@GarthGrimble Did you watch the show? We're just reporting on the current news, and very much complimentary of Russ. It's flippin' awesome
This claim is why some ants walk in a death spiral. People follow things with no logic or facts. The previous people went through a big part of Africa..they did not run the entire length of Africa. The word "entire" has meaning. Basic geography...look at Africa's map. Maybe people must just recognize that their once achievements were broken by someone else...the basic reason why we have something like new world records.
@@markthrelfall3577 I did, including at 7:51 where you say "in fact he definitely isn't the first person to run the entire length of Africa". That's not "just reporting on the current news" is it? It's a very clear and unambiguous statement of your position on this subject - you see no difference between running most of the length of Africa and running its entire length
The previous runs weren’t the ‘full’ length of the continent. It’s sour grapes on their part.
Yep!
Could you not just have focussed on his achievement?
Russ was the one who done it from very top to very bottom. Stopping at Cairo means fuck all. It's like saying you done a marathon after running 25 miles.
Russ had it documented properly all the way through too which I guess these others don't have as well.
Exactly. Well stated.
Congrats Heather!!!
Russ said every episode "my names Russ Cook and I'm attempting to become the first person to run the ENTIRE length of Africa" not just part of it 🫡🫡🫡
Bingo. He ran the ENTIRE length. Not just 75%.
Either way it's an amazing achievement! 🙌
@@gtn Everyone in the comments understands the distinction between "most of the length of Africa" and "entire length of Africa". Which part are you finding confusing GTN?
Someone is pregnant or they are not....Russ did the entire length. The previous guys did not. Easy.
Congratulations Heather. Looking forward to jam packed weekend, supertri in London and T100 in Singapore.
Wouldn't being the first person to run from the most southern tip to the most northern tip of Africa mean he is the first? That other guy finished in Cairo which is not even on the coast?
Russ is 100% first.
There's no controversy, and it's not a "tricky subject" as you've said in the comments. Just look at a map of Taba and Cairo. They aren't Africa's most northerly points. They aren't even Egypt's most northerly points. You don't need an oversight body to know this. You need google maps.
I think it’s really interesting that Form goggles can now be worn for racing. As the person who asked a previous question about racing without data, I’m not sure I’d want to know but it’s intriguing nonetheless!
I love that Mark is so buzzing over running with Kilian, just as we'd be buzzing over getting to run with Mark!
Surely by definition, “the entire length” would be from tip to tip, therefore the other two guys definitely didn’t run the entire across Africa… only Russ has gone from the south point to north point.
Congrats 🎉to Heather!!
Great news! Future star in the making, that child has no chance 🤣
Definitely looking forward to the Duathlon segment... I was pleasantly surprised to see you guys there and briefly getting to say hi, with a quick handshake after we'd all finished the race.... First and only time I'll beat athletes of your calibre 😁👍
It would be awesome to do a deeper dive on the water quality issues topic! Thanks !
Tell me you’re a Lionel sanders hater without telling me you’re a Lionel sanders hater. 😂 you could tell talking about Lionel’s W was tough for these two. 😂
It was tough just for James I think - can tell he is a little bitter or jealous? (Or both). Well done Lionel though 🎉
Lol I literally came to this channel just to see their response. These guys can't stand him. Glad he gave them more to say than "he's very transparent" this time.
Am I the only one that didn’t pick up on this? I think most of us are thrilled LS had such a great race. BUT, in the grand scheme of things, it s season opener 70.3…
@@trbeyond Please list for us every 70.3 that is more prestigious than Oceanside, and likely to daw a more stacked field than this one did. Ironman 70.3 worlds and?
I have no idea what you are on about Talbot? We're all big fans of Lionel. I am not sure what you drew from this conversation??! Was it because we were not gushing enough, or title the show about his win??
Congratulations to Heather and family. Good health and much happiness to the family.
Rivers are easier to clean than the ocean; it's always flowing. Just look at who's dumping their crap into it and stop them.
Alternate solution: hold the Olympic triathlon somewhere else. It doesn't have to be in Paris.
Or simply use the Vaires-sur-Marne Nautical Stadium...!
Perhaps y'all could do an actual test of the Mourner saddle?
They have need to change the triathlon location but need to keep it as a triathlon not a duathlon. You cant call a duathlon olympic gold medalist a triathlon olympic gold medalist.
The top most northern point of Africa is in Tunisia - so if the others went from Egypt, they did not run the "full length" and Russ is the 1st!
Kilian’s surname is evidently not pronounced as in the French, since it is Spanish or Catalan - so the “net” is pronounced phonetically as such.
Congratulations Heather 💛!!!
Entire length and through Africa are two different things. Geezer is the only one to have done the entire length
Congratulations Heather!
If you do a test of the Form SwimStraight, can you test it against the Platysens Marlin, which lets you create a course and uses bone conduction to guide you using GPS?
ok but those other dudes didn't record their Africa traversals on Strava now did they?
Do they have lakes near Paris?
Wow! Congrats Heather!!!!
🎉
Russ is the first person. It’s like saying John o' Groats to Brighton is good enough for the length of Great Britain. Not quite 👍🏼
Exactly, geography isn't subjective
Yayy! Congrats Heather! 🎉
🎉
Is anyone from GTN coming to NZ for the 70.3 worlds?
Guaranteed i would lose those goggles first race.
🤗Congratulations and God bless Heather🤗
Hi 😁, I've seen that sadle on CZcams last year, can't remember who tested it 🤔, 😂🤣😂
Heathers son is born with an ftp of 300 and a vo2 max of 80
didn't Lionel sprint finish for 2nd last year? he's not the defending champion
Coros... Sage Canaday? 🤔😎
I don't see with my right eye do "form" won't work for me
You can flip it over and have it on the left, assuming that it doesn't impede your vision on that side.
The Paris water quality is becoming a joke 😂
do you think it will be ok in time for the Olympics?
@@gtn I hope so
Last time i checked egypt wasnt the tip of africa. Sooooo...no they did not run the ehole legnth.
Lionel wins a big race for first time in half a decade and you guys post about some old geezer.
And they put the race results off to the near-end of the video and mostly highlight the women's results, and then do as much as they possibly can to minimize the significance of Lionel's results and rush through talking about it as quickly as possible without saying so much as a basic "good job to Lionel." These guys are basically the leaders of the Lionel hate pack. They can't stand him.
As I have said to Talbot, I have no idea what you are on about! Apologies we didn’t talk about Lionel at the front of the show. We are super impressed with his result, and really pleased for him. I didn’t realise that covering the race news, as we always do, later in the show would cause so much upset. We are big fans of Lionel, so please stop this rubbish about us leading some “hate pack”
Very poor coverage of Russ's achievement here- gtn fail! No mention those others (still amazing) achievements were NOT the entire length, the insane daily millage he was doing when making up for holdups, his strava, youtube channel or the charity being for running +his personal story. Do better!
Hang on here. We weren't taking anything away from his amazing achievement, we were pretty gushing about that! We have featured him numerous times along the way too! We merely covered the controversy, that has been going around in the press this past week. We are not saying we agree with it, just simply trying to explain it. And as we did say, that is the problem with no official organisation setting these rules. He's done something absolutely incredible. Period.
@@markthrelfall3577 - There should be no controversy at all, it clear the other 2 didn't do the full length of the continent.
@@Claire_16 I agree with that. If I’m honest, I regret featuring the controversy. It was covered by all other major news platforms too, so we felt we should discuss it
Well they could've figured out easily that he's not the first to run africa. All the information is there these days ;).
He IS the first to run the entire length of Africa. The other guys’ maps were only part of it. Starting in a city in Egypt. Russ actually ran from the ocean in the south to the ocean in the north. It’s just butt hurt on the part of the others.
Others started/ended in egypt? That's not the length... Look at Tunisia vs egypt on map!
Your take is ill informed. We all in Africa knows this.
Calling yourself a "hardest geezer" isn't a great look. He's a pillock who achieved something incredible, but is equally trying to take credit for something he didn't achieve. He isn't the first person to compete the run and should stop suggesting as such.
Or you could just give kudos to someone who’s just done something incredible
@@chrishitchman7450 That doesn't mean he gets a free pass for taking credit for something he hasn't done.
He IS the first person to run the ENTIRE length of Africa. The other guys’ maps are way off. They only ran part of it. Not southern most to northern most. Their maps would be like me running from Cali to Mississippi and say I ran the entire width of the U.S.
@@LongbranchOlivetticomplaining about his internet name truly shows what a nob you are.
He IS the first person who has done it. If someone ran from Miami to Los Angeles, it would be a cost to coast run but not running the length of the us. He is the only person who ran end to end, top to bottom, longest point to point distance, whatever you want to call it. The others did only most of the length, which is not an absolut measurement.
Congratulations Heather!
Congratulations Heather!
