You're right, I've been hearing a lot of people saying that. All over the place even. The other day I was at a grocery store in the US and some random lady was like, "I don't think the VLDL podcast is going to make episode 5".
"I have several philosophical questions, we have 30 minutes to discuss them all"
You guys literally have gold on this podcast. Please don't stop the videos lol.
Thoughtprocessing like this is absolutly amazing! It opens up so much more questions, wonderings and creative thinking. I want more or Rowans thoughts now, and hear what Alan and Adam think of it, just to jump off with my own ponderings. Doesn't matter to me if it is light or dark, dread or wishfull thinking, it gives pause, and that, to me, is always valueable. Thanks guys, for yet another pause with meaning. :)
Going from 'nice day for fishin' to how long would you like to live in perfect health gave me one hell of a whiplash.
That last question is basically the point of the very underrated video game Soma. Give it a play to at least half way through and you will appreciate that existentialist question even more. The end of the game even more so.
Also Talos Principle, another amazing game
Really nice episode!❤ I always listen to your podcast on spotify when I'm going to school and it really puts away all that "school stress". So thanks guys 🤝 really appreciate it! 😁👌
Such a wholesome and heartwarming episode! haha
Loved you guys from the start it's so cool to see you branching out.
Got me back into D&D and finding ways to enjoy time with friends. Thanks for all the time you put in! Even if I'm having a bad day I know there's always something for me on your channel ❤
Watched this early morning for me, really enjoyed the mind bending mental questioning and hearing you all answer too. Thanks!
And that's the genesis of the citadel of Rowans
these guys will never make it to episode 6
😂
Wrong hahaha
Last question is always a fun one to hear peoples answers to. I've head that while on average the turn over rate for atoms in the body is around 7 years, neurons have a much slower turnover rate, and they can last for decades. In no way an authority on the issue, just something I've also asked and been interested in
How does Rowan come up with these questions 😂
I feel like I’m watching my friends - keep it up guys !
Bro, for real. They're so relatable. I feel like I could hang out with any of them and feel like I've known them for years lol
Great fun.
Careful with things on the desk (poking with fingers, dropping phones etc headphone users might notice bangs).
Can't wait for an episode 6.
contagious personality of rowan as black shirt manager + villainous power hunger white shirt Alan reboot we want ❣
20:45 this was actually good content, he was actually sharing deeper feelings and you just cut him off. Not sure why you took it back to the superficial
Rest of the episode was great 👍
Yea!
This was a great episode. Continue taking risks like this. You never shy away from mental health. Thank you.
😂 I'm laughing, but genuinely hope someone gave Adam aa long hug after that torment 😂
For reals
Oh, you dig deep for an entertaining podcast :) On the other hand, it was very interesting to listen to you on more serious topics.
If I swapped universes, I’d end up in a mental facility trying to explain to scientists how I swapped places and parallel universes exist.
Liking these podcasts! Keep it up fellas! 🎉
I can't get enough of your opening music.... Love the improv so much!
The 10 second rewind would be like the Quick save bit you guys did.
I love VLDL so much, but these episodes man, I can't believe I actually love this more. Keep it up!
Literally uploaded 2 hours before I woke up lol perfect way to start my Tuesday morning
This ep was super fun, love it, srsly, love it.
That episode was crazy ! I would have a panic attack at all of these questions ! 😄
"To live on as we have is to leave behind joy, and love, and companionship, because we know it to be transitory, of the moment. We know it will turn to ash. Only those, whose lives are brief can imagine that love is eternal.
"You should embrace that remarkable illusion. It may be the greatest gift your race has ever received."
I laughed so much in this episode though😂
Baradun will kick in for Adam and he will be there in the other dimension just shouting "PORTAL....AWAAAAAAAAY" 😂😂😂😂
only love for these guys...send it!!!!!! 🥰
That scenario of sitting in a chair with a million people hoping for your magic touch was a BBC Sounds sci-fi horror short story. Really cool concept.
I don't think it was healing. It was some kind of life or death prediction for each person, once.
Really fun podcast 👏
These are great, love this, keep going!
10 sec rewind any time I want here. It always surprises me how long 10 sec actually is
I don’t know what’s happening but I love it and we need more of it ❤
favorite episode yet!
Man I hope you were all doing okay after this episode and took some time for your mental health. Those questions in the end are some that I also dread, but hearing you guys talk about it kinda helped. So thanks!
Thank you for the CZcams uploads. I don't have time to switch apps lol. I still haven't finished Percy Jackson
I do love thought exercises. They're fun imo
edit: that ending song was great 😂
I totally get Adam's thoughts on problems with "eternity attached". Great discussions.
I can see some wholesome-good-guy-saving-lives Cleric Greg coming through in Alan there. Nice. :) This was genuinely awesome though. Hope you guys do a depressing part 2 of this. Haha. 😄
This podcast will never last. This is the final episode for sure.
On being immortal, you would also live through an inevitable possible dark ages/period of tyrannical reign/ disease ridden apocalypse and not be able to end your suffering
love you guys!
I do that too with my group of friend, asking strange question. I called it question of the day
You guys got so close to the real root of consciousness. Here is another darker point of view. Consciousness is an illusion of memory. If you construct yourself with identical atoms and placement etc. in other words, clone yourself, this would essentially feel like teleportation to your clone. And if there was a machine that promised teleportation, but worked by killing you and reconstructing you in another place, your clone would live their life believing their consciousness survived and did not die at all. Knowing this, how could you prove yourself that you are "you" and your consciousness is the same as yesterday after waking up every morning? What if we are dying every time we sleep, and a new consciousness is born every time we wake up? To you, you are the same person, because you have your memories from yesterday. As a matter of fact, we are dying every second, every millisecond and even every granule of time. You cannot know whether it was the same person 1 second ago, or a new person with the past person's memories. Because there is no consciousness, there are only memories. There is no special property of atoms that holds consciousness or something. Your thoughts and consciousness are just neurotransmitters, a pool of molecules, and chemical reactions. These are continuously changing not just every 7 years. It's like the Ship of Theseus.
First is a deep question for this time in my morning..😂
This ep reminds me of a line from the True Grit remake “I do not entertain hypotheticals. The world is vexing enough.”
Alan, living for a hundred thousand years would allow you to meet a million new loved ones. Sure, your wife and matriarch of your dynasty is gone, but you will be able to shepherd your family to safety and greatness.
How long are you planing to pod the cast? Is it a limited time thing or is it more of a permanent installment?
3:00
Would probably matter to me... but the me in the other universe would be cool with it
Branching moment XD
This is the best Pod Cast ever.
Don't worry Adam I have panic attacks before bed sometimes too, my OCD causes me to overthink everything. If I don't fall asleep to music I really struggle sometimes.
The life savings question is similar to Newcomb's paradox, which features two boxes. Box A is open and holds a decent amount of money, which you can take or leave. Box B is closed, and you can always take it; but before the experiment, it was predicted whether you'd take box A - if yes, then box B was left empty, but if no, then it was filled with vast amounts of money.
The catch is that the experiment's been done before, many times, and you know for a fact that the prediction has always been correct.
I'm with Adam on the immortality question. Absolutely terrified of and dread death. I think I'd even go so far as to lock in a longer timeframe.
Love your podcasts! Would love u guys to talk about artificial intelligence and how it will change our lives and/or the gaming industry!
"Yeah I totally would" - Allan. That comment changed the course of the first question real quick. Lol.
As for the teleportation aspect, Your atoms are constantly being replaced and exchanging themselves with atoms across the universe. As long as the neural patterns in your brain are the same you are the same. we are products of genetics and programing.
The button question is a little like “Schindler’s List”…”I could have saved more 😢”
Even though you'll be identical, you are still from different parts of spacetime. Your individual reference frames are unique. Even the atoms and subatomic particles are connected and from different parts of the universe or a different one. Those particles decayed and/or condensed from different matter and energy. :)
On the question of how long you would want to live in perfect health, there's actually a really good short film called "The Man from Earth." There is this man who has lived since the dawn of human-kind and he decides, one day, to reveal his secret to his friends and colleagues sometime in the early 21st century.
POV: You push that button for 50 years out of the goodness of your heart but then realize that you were never actually able to leave, you see a letter by the door that says thanks for playing- Jigsaw
This is the new Important if True.
You guys are the only group on this platform who can still make me laugh. Keep it up, these are great!
I wouldn't want to outlive my daughter. I feel like 180 years would be a solid amount of time. Enough time to make some money and enjoy it, But not so long that you just turn miserable has everyone around You dies.
Damn it, I hate that I have to face My own mortality, I'm petrified with fear ando anguish, I want to cry right now (not kidding). And still it was a really good podcast dudes, I hope You guys keep going
That is cool. When I first heard about the podcast I thought it was a joke or a one time video.
This was awesome
11:00 Wouldn't work for dice rolls or other chance games, I mean it would in the sense you get another shot if you got a bad roll but you wouldn't be able to know what you are going to roll because you are not a robot and any reaction to the known future would change the outcome... especially in a dice roll where you are rolling the dice.
Loving these podcasts (videos) :) excited for this!!
13:54 Virtue is its own reward Adam
That 1 example about the cell with the slaves dam I think I'd stay for as long as I could. Idk if I could stay sane enough to keep it up tho.
Dad Joke:
You could say she's "next jen"
4:46
Rip your shirt, strap it around the button to form an auto press, then leave.
15:06
Id take 10 seconds once a day, once a week could be good too. But once a year, while very good because you rewind a whole day, it sounds like one of those rare consumables in games you end up saving but never using
Walking away from the button that frees prisoners would be like trying to end a session of Civilization. Just... one... more... turn.
In the prisoner scenario, anyone who wouldn't spend the rest of their days pressing that button is a sociopath.
Great video as always Vldl! BTW, have any of you ever watched coherence? If not, I strongly suggest that you do it :)
"Someone came up to us and said..." You definitely had a Flight of the Concords vibe going at beginning. Loved it.
...okay, quick edit to answer a few of these: I'd have to leave immediately from the slave scenario because every life saved would theoretically damn someone else to enslavement. If there was a limited number, I'd try my best to save them all, but eventually I would feel gutted whenever I fall asleep from exhaustion and miss out on saving like 30 people.
Immortality. Give me eternity. It's not so scary, Adam. Great question though. Makes you ponder what you would focus on doing to keep things interesting. Then why aren't we even more focused with whatever days we have left? Ah the sweet relief of a limited time just before eternity in perfect peace with Jesus.
With the magic helmet, I'd immediately begin stripping as a down payment of all my possessions. Done. And there it is. Literally.
Teleporting is a spiritual transmission as well as physical. Philip totally did that after talking to the Ethiopian in a chariot. Great Bible story.
Keep this going!!
Damn, I hope you guys went out for donuts or something after such a heavy episode!
Damnnnn Rowan can SING!!
In the dictator/prisoner scenario, the thing there is the guilt doesn't lie with me, it lies with the evil dictator that imprisoned 50 million or whatever. If I save 100,000, good for me, if I then leave, the decision to keep the remaining people locked up isn't mine, it's the dictator's.
So what I've learned here is Rowan is an existential dread vending machine lmao
Welcome to WVLDL in New Zealand!
Dayumn! Baelin sure can belt out them sweet notes! He really makes it a nice day for fishin, ain't it? Ha huh
Turning back a full day is more time turned back mathematically, so i think I would choose that one. You might actually be able to save the world with a full day turned back too
Hey. Rowan didn't answer the question about immortality! How long would he want to live? And he just asked questions.
By the way is Ben coming on the podcast?
I can only think of three podcasts that made it to ep. 6.
Welcome to the shortest podcast ever:)))
Magical Helmet/life savings question: as somebody who has spent time in jail (9 months)(just for driving on a suspended DL {thanks America}) i can tell you that, even with the though of being able to NOT give it away, after a certain amount of time, you will tell yourself that you would do ANYTHING to leave... i think you'd be able to convince yourself that you'd do it in order to leave... but then reality sets in after youre gone
Lighter?! Heck no what do you take us for PEASANTS?! Keep it coming I’m here to intellectualize with y’all! Lol it’s still funny tbh
Would love to see you guys play ghosts of tabor in vr
I mean, Rick and Morty switched universes a lot! They didn't seem to have too much trouble accepting it.
Your acronym should be WVDL for W Viva Dirt League, like a radio channel.
I can not believe there are now 5 episodes of 3 white guys talking into a microphone this is the best universe its insane what people can think of
The first topic reminds me of the mandela effect, part of the theory goes that the bosson Higgs experiment failed or succeded, on a failure the universe collapsed on it self and this is the next one or back up but with minimum differences, on a succeded case, 2 universe fused into one but some souls remember the other universe diferences
So good
So the first question just comes down to 'do you believe in a soul?'.
One day, once a year.
An hour... Tops (on the changed circumstances they correctly realised that shame was the major factor.. it's interesting to note that shame was a more powerful force then duty.)
