I use the term "mate" all the time when addressing women I don't know (retail, hospitality, etc)... I'm a big guy and find it's a really quick and easy way to put a lady at ease in my presence and let her know I'm not a creep trying to tune her...
Well, you can't call a female "Love" or "Sweety" any more. MATE is Australian.
I haven't heard the term "tune her" for so long. LOL, reminiscing about living on the south coast
it just sounds friendlier tbh
@@ianbeadle6313 I still say it, and darl lol
That’s perfect! As a woman I love this comment! Love that you’re considering how women are feeling and happy as Larry to be addressed as mate by anyone. Cheers mate! 😁
And there you have the typical Aussie bogan. . (And there’s a bit of bogan in all of us). In Oz, you are a mate whether you are male or female.
they way I see it, your not a true Aussie if your not at least a little bogan.
I grew up on Sydneys North Shore and I have a lot more than just a little bogan in me, used to drive my parents insane when I'd deliberately say "yous" it's the Aussie way, well I believe anyway 👍😁
Sometimes young women call women dude when they are saying wtf right ? Well in Australia anyway lol Influence from American TV hehe
As a female, I call everyone either mate or bud. It’s a friendly way of approaching a convo 😂
Agreed everyone's your mate in Australia 😂😂
@@xXSinForLifeXx 4:40
Not sure in the US either, but as he signed off he said "Thanks a lot guys" we tend to call girls and guys "Guys" totally not uncommon to go up to a group of people or group of women and say "Hey Guys", no one would flinch at that.
Yep , "guys" is used for both genders when in a group (or even just 2 people ) 👍
Yeah agreed aswell "guys" in that context to me means a group of people.
The term "mate" has many uses....when greeting someone, a friend, an enemy, when you don't know some one's name, some one in general (Old mate) or when you're trying to suck up to someone.
Just to add....Australia: Where you call your mates "cunts" and your enemies "mates!" :D
Summed it up perfectly. It's all about context. I'd call a best mate an absolute cunt to their face with the upmost love and respect while calling someone I absolutely hate a mate. It's all about the tone of voice used. As a 90's kid it's the difference between calling one person a dude and another person dude.
This shop was a little community "corner shop" which also served some of the best fish and chips in Sandgate. Probably because guys like this faithfully (and responsibly) worked the local fishing trawlers and kept the Sandgate Co-op going. He was nervous as hell, hence the "mate".
There is similar news story about a guy who was on his way home from the pub (a little worse for wear) who chased down and caught a thief from a servo in his thongs (flip flops) and stubbies (workers shorts).
I love these Aussie blokes - true hearted gems!
Daniels a bloody legend 🤣 true blue Aussie 👍🏻
Everyone is a mate in Australia. He's a typical Aussie and gotta love him
We do stick ciggies in the ear when we need both hands free, but this one's just his earphone for hearing the studio.
I'm a women and I use mate for everybody male and female, it's just an Aussie term of endearment.
Traditionally, "mate" is a male to male thing, but it is not unusual to call a women "mate" or for women to use "mate", but for a "bogan" everyone and everything that is breathing is "mate."
...even your dog is 'mate' and they generally respond with a tail wag
Nah not a bogan thing, mate IS for everyone regardless of gender or if they're actually a mate or whoever or someone who's NOT a mate... it depends on the tone though
Must be bogan. Though younger people pickier with term
I think you hit the nail on the head with the bogan comment.
For them everyone and everything is their mate.
Mate means friend lmao
yep. it's an in-ear monitor, for him to hear the anchors from the studio.
Queensland is Australia's "south" , its the nearness to the tropics
The further north you go, the larger the blow files up the nose gets! :D
I'm from Queensland and I can't even argue with that 🤣
best state to live in
This guy exists all over Australia.
Happy with any length of video... just grateful for the Aussie content. You guys are enjoyable to watch... keep it up 👌
When i went to australia with my parents my dad asked me “why do australians call everyone mike?”…. I was confused as hell Lol he heard mate as mike because of the accent
you skimmed over the best bit.Look after your mates and your mates will always look after you. old mate 2016
Now you've gotta watch Corey Worthington's interview!! Maybe react to a few short interviews in one video?
I personally like to watch 15 to 30 minutes video's, keep up the good work and I love the way you say mate it's funny when you two banter.
Great job Miles and Phezz - Yep, anyone is a mate down here, guys and chicks, all same same!! Same for dude, anything goes really 👍
Males females mates enemies doggo, all mate but depends on the tone hey
Yeah I call people man dude and mate regardless of gender.
Mate is like saying hey guys. It doesn't have to be directed at a guy
Love all your videos on Oz.
Can’t wait for the next one.
Keep it up and cheers for the laughs.
Stay safe
And that’s coming from an Ozzie
😜
Easily one of the best interviews ever 👌 I can watch it over and over and laugh harder each time.
the thing in the ear makes him able to hear the tv hosts asking him questions
Haha this vid is so funny. Being Australian its all so normal to me, so seeing Americans talk about it is so weird. Everyone is mate here... it seems male only because it sort of began with 'mateship' with our military sharing meals and playing games with the 'enemy' during the old wars... military was all men back then.
So mateship is what our culture centres around now, but its both genders.
(A country of people from all nations and religions, all mates)
He’s a legend maaaate! Go Daniel, go son!! 🏅
"What's in his ear?" "Microphone" 😄
i also follow IWRocker and he did this one too, he loved it, it’s a classic example of a fair dinkem aussie legend :)
Me too
OnYa Daniel, doing us proud Mate 👍
10 minits to 15 would be fine depend on the tpoic
Seems a great bloke!....
I used to teach English in Malaysia and any time my students got too lazy cocky thinking that they were fluent I would put this on.....shut them right up 😂😂
Hey guys check out some old Paul hogan show stuff. Will give you a bit more of old Australia. But if you're up for it( a warning you may be offended) Rodney rude, old Australian comedian.
Santa, hey Santa - where's my fuckin bike?
I usually use the term "Mate" when addressing my son, or an animal. Occasionally for a stranger.
Been to Australia many times, and I laugh every time I talk to an Aussie!it was so difficult to understand..
Respect for being honest.
Daniel is a legend. We love him here
Aww I love this video, Daniel is an awesome Aussie (and yes is it Ozzy). Good on him! I agree with what others have said... Mate is for everyone, anytime. I call my kids mate especially when they're in trouble "ah c'mon mate, you know better!". It's a good way of telling someone they're doing the wrong thing but also letting them know you're not trying to pretend you're perfect.
As to the video length I don't mind. If it's something I'm interested in I'll watch regardless. Have to admit I never watch the bit at the very end... That music annoys me. Also most of the time I watch with subtitles so I don't wake up the kids so it's nice when people put the effort in to make sure the subtitles are right. CZcams always stuffs up videos with Aussies speaking... Clearly we're hard for everyone to understand 😂😂.
Keep up the fabulous videos mates 😊.
Mate is like another word for friend
Miles, your killing it mate
Do what ever you want guys. It's your channel
When your dad's a bogan, this just becomes normal.
Nah, mate is a pal, buddy
Gotta Love a westy bogan, some of the most down to earth people, will do anything for a mate .....for the measly cost of a bong or 2!
Thanks guys, enjoy these. BTW Miles, mate is not pronounced 'might' or 'miiit' it’s 'mayt' or 'mayyyyt'. The extended version is for affection or exasperation. Phezz says mate perfectly for an Aussie.
This is bogan Australia, this is us.
Yeah, and the dude who ramraided the fish and chip shop is also us.
the thing in his ear is so he can hear the studio presenters/producers
Mate that champion is a legend
The thing in his ear is so he can here the main room and questions from the main desk
'Mate' is a term of endearment for us aussies
Yep, you can use mate when talking to a women - it is a generic form of address. I quite like it because in most circumstances it has an implied friendliness. It is like when older women or men call you love or darl - it is a familiar friendliness or kindness like the way an aunt or uncle would speak to you..
I say "old mate" more than just mate.
Tbh I couldn't care the length for he videos, they are always entertaining nonetheless
yes, you can call women 'Mate'. Generally I use 'Mate' when I can't remember their name!
The longer the better. It feels like a wast of time just clicking on something that only last a few minutes. You feel ripped off.
Do what you want, getting around CZcams ads is as simple as going to the end of the video and hitting replay
The thing in his ear is so he can hear the studio talking to him.
I like around 20min to 30min 😁👍
Old Mate was Holding his Rollie Cigarette in his EAR.
mate is to anyone, everyone is everyone's mate. equality
The earpiece in his ear is so he can hear the people in the studio talking to him.
People do put their cigarettes behind their ears to hold them but not inside their ears 😂
I prefer longer videos tbh. I want genuine reactions (which you guys have) plus comments, thoughts and feedback. Conversations are great, which is why i like group react channels
mate is an australia-wide word. its used for addressing anyone in an informal but polite manner. eg "hey mate, how are ya?" its not gender specific, and it can come up in almost any situation - even anger! eg "fuckin hell mate, you've done yaself a mischief."
The term Mate can also be used as a put down....
The earpiece is for a live cross to the studio
AU Ethos - You look after your Mates and your Mates will look after you. No airs and graces with Daniel, everyone being a Mate.
The thing in his ear is so he can hear the presenters back in the studio
The longer the better. Doesn’t sound suss at all 😂😂
lol react to "Most Aussie guys ever foil robbery despite a 'busted plugger'" in Today show as well...
That's a good one, or the one where the guy used a milk crate to subdue someone
Or They came BOUUUUNDING OVAH
those were comedy gold 😂😂😂
Title: Oporto Robbery
mate is like the word freind
Mate just means friend. Or used as an informal, unisex term. Like miss or sir. Just informal. Works for everything and everyone. And when I say “informal”. It honestly can be used formally too 😅
It just works for everything
In Australia anything and everything is mate. Females you call mate. Dogs you call mate. Men you call mate. That pencil that keeps rolling off the desk “mate stop falling of the desk geez”
Using the word, mate.. It comes so naturally to be honest. I couldn’t count how many times I say it a day but yeah na, yeah na, is what it is mate 👍🇦🇺
Long or short videos depends on the video being shown. Some of the enjoyment of this video was diminished because of the numerous reactions. At some stage play the video without comment and then replay the video with comments. Mate is used by both males and females when interacting with other males and females. Its use does not discriminate. Often it can be used in an aggressive or derogatory manner depending upon the context. Sometimes it will be spoken as 'moit', usually by those with a broader accent. The man in the video is a top bloke and I would like to buy him and his mates a beer (XXXX). P.S. I dislike the terms 'guy', 'bro','dude','homie' etc. Mate I prefer 'mate'. P.P.S. In old Hollywood movies the term 'mack' was used in a similar way as 'mate'. Does this have the same meaning as 'mate'? I have not heard this term in more recent movies.
G’day, this really is how we behave in Oz, we have minimal pretence. We are real. Cheers Terri from Oz xxx🇦🇺
Mate is generally - Friend
Mate is generally for males
But when you're "bogan" or really friendly with someone you can call them mate regardless of gender.
We aren't all like that when it comes to the way we talk or look, sometimes you are the nicest "bogan", sophisticated bogan or we go between classy and then when we don't need to back to being chilled as
mates are mates & mates are friends lol
As an Aussie we call everyone mate. Just the way it is mate
Brisbane is in the state of Queensland which is basically Australia's Florida. Nearby is the Gold Coast which I believe is based off how Miami was built, there is also a suburb/district near Gold Coast called Miami! Also, Gold Coast has theme parks like Warner Bros, Sea World etc and correct me if I am wrong but isn't Orlando FL home of those types of theme parks? So yeah QLD = FL
He was explaining his version of events by calling the guy who crashed the car 'mate', not her and the thing in his ear was probably an earpiece so he could hear the talk show hosts too.
I forget not everyone uses the word mate but it is so normal to me. I would love to visit other countries to see how they interact.
you should really check out the song straya but its set to the song heya..
😂😂😂 proud to be an aussie
The term MATE, has both passive- aggressive meaning.
As a woman, I don't particularly like being called mate, especially by a stranger! 😏 A Scotsman friend does it, but he means it to be funny! 🤗
I like the short videos with less chat at the start of them :)
Yes, it's normal to call anyone, "mate".
Short and sweet
Mate means friend in Australia
Mate is simply ingrained into our language it’s like hunger you eat dirty you shower we talk hey mate 👍🇦🇺
It's less common to call women mate, though people definitely do say it to women. In this case I feel like he is addressing the audience and the perpetrator as mate , more than her but I can't say that for sure. My work colleague calls women mate, and it always pricks my ears up when he does
It's fine, I'm female and I wouldn't think twice about it
Mate 'is' generally male but it's fully appropriate and particularly endearing to call a woman 'mate' provided there is rapport or overt friendliness between the parties.
Yeah guys, mate applys to everyone !
Yes we call guys and girls mates like “ me best mate she’s at the pub”
Anyone can be a mate. Doesn't matter what sex or gender they are, where they come from, or what language they speak. Everyone's a mate. :)
Mate = friend
Of coarse we’re your mate!!! 🤘🏻🤣
Watching here,,God bless
Everyone is a mate in Australia
Not long after this interview a Dentist called him & fixed his teeth for free.
Mate is not gendered in Australia.
It either means friend or if the context is right it can mean enemy
