Well, providence has now decided for me what next week's MWPC will be. I just received my DDI 5 from Zaxon in Poland. So we'll be taking a look at it's capabilities on next week's palate cleanser! Stay tuned!
Amstrad, Sinclair, and Acorn, oh my! I really enjoy seeing these machines that were much more successful in European markets. There was so much innovation and competition among 8-bit computers for the home, and it is fascinating to compare and contrast the choices the manufacturers made both in terms of engineering and marketing. Hope your parents are well!
Thanks!
legend bud pure legend thank you it was all the info to get me exited for my cpc mini and thank you for the how too,s usb roms amazing vidio. all the best :)
Wow. Thank you for that. I thought I was too 'low key' to get anyone excited about anything. Glad you liked it and thanks for watching!
The Dandanator is a brilliant little time saving device when it comes to loading software but as you've shown it's real value (far as I'm concerned) is it's ability to run lower ROMs. Letting you diagnose a machine even if it's own ROM is not working at all or it's memory is fried. So it's one of those things that falls into the basket of being both a great test tool and fantastic gaming device. A great buy. Thanks for sharing ;)
Thank you, Peter!
Very cool and interesting. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Cheers Todd, hope all is going well with your parents...
Things are a little better. Thanks!
Hi Todd.
I don't have an Amstrad CPC (yet) but I knew about the Dandanator because I am a Spectrum fan. I have my own means of creating game cartridges for the Spectrum so I never got a Dandanator, which made me totally ignorant on how versatile the ROM creating software was. The reason I am saying versatile is because none of the Spectrum emulators that I have has an option to freeze the game as soon as it starts. Not every game starts with a screen that waits for you to press a button, so, no matter how quick you are, you miss either a couple of seconds of intro music, animation or both. When I saw this, I thought "Hey! that's really neat!". I jumped to the Dandanator web site and downloaded the Spectrum version software to try it out. Unfortunately, it only seems to work only with ".tap" cassette images, but not with ".tzx" ones. It is still much better than doing it manually though. 90% of my Spectrum games archive is .tzx files but it is possible to find .tap versions for the most of them out there. Thanks for the video, I learnt something new today!
Thanks! Yeah, I'm expecting my first Spectrum as soon as @8bitretrorefix tells me how much shipping will be and gets it in the post, so I've already bought the ZX Dandanator in anticipation. The "snapshot" method isn't perfect, as you say, like when I capture "Aliens" in the video. With the snapshot version on the Dandanator, you miss out on all the splash and logo screens and you have to do it manually with the emulator. But it's still a great way to "instant" load software on the CPC. I did find this: shredzone.org/docs/tzxtools/tzxtap/ which may help you with the .tzx problem.
Does this device accept Microsd cards as a storage device?
No. You load snapshot images onto it through the USB interface from a PC. The storage is probably flash memory or some such.
@@YARC-1981 that's kind of cool. So this is more of like that M4 Device for the CPC?
I'm not familiar with the M4, so I can't competently answer that. Sorry.
@@YARC-1981 no worries.
LOL Dan Dare isn't his real name. Dan Dare is a British comic book character.
I suppose not being British is a good enough excuse for not knowing that. Thanks!
