This is an excellent program for those who want to learn to sight read. I had to give up lessons during a few years ago when my teacher retired and I tried five of the most popular online learning systems. PM has a strong didactic and motivational element and (in my opinion) comes as close as you can get to a human teacher. It also has the two Alfred Piano for Adult course books in its interactive system as well as a very wide range of graded music. which the learner can break down into bitesize chunks. Another strength is the series of video lessons linked to the course. I'm a retired teacher and I can appreciate the effort the designers have gone to in order to make the program accessible to children.

I haven taken the SASR only like two times in total... This may be interesting ✌️

I really wish I liked the SASR, but giving me 20 seconds to figure out the fingering for the entire song is just crazy. I wish instead it would give you ONE(1) "practice" playthrough instead of the 20 seconds and then forced to play. I would consistently use this tool if it wasn't just a frustrating futile challenge IMHO. I have been playing for year and still fail miserably with the SASR(never got out of early beginner), just tried today because of the challenge and I'm over it.
Edit: addendum - Because this sounds critical of Piano Marvel overall all - that could NOT be further from the truth. I've been a member and just purchased 5 more years during the holiday sales. What I found as a much better tool to help with sight reading is the sight reading samurai and just progressing through the method and techniques.

      how do you practice?

@@cyrusthe0ther795 when I'm talking a "practice" playthrough it is the button that allows you to play the song with instant feedback and waits for you to get the note correct before it proceeds. If you are talking about how I practice on the app - I progress through the method/technique(get frustrated with these because I feel some are too advanced for the level, but all method books etc do this) and do a myriad of other exercises within the library. "The sight reading Samurai" is by far the one that progressed my sight reading the most. IMHO
I also have a few method books/series and some of them have library songs too. these are really fun to go through with the marvel software checking my work

@@standuppdx So are you doing the practice mode rather than the play mode? because practice helps with learning patterns and correcting from instant feed back, but it's different from a time pressured sight reading. Have you been practicing consistently as well? What level of sight reading samurai did you hit

@@standuppdxtotally agree, while the timed pressure is useful to develop, I think it's a different although related skill. If you're learning to read books, people aren't going to put you on the spot, give you no time to correct your word mistakes, that isn't effective learning. But, reading in front of the class is useful in a different skill to grow
I agree with sight reading samurai being good, also "the perfect start" series is really good, especially for practicing reading jumps quickly. Interested in more course \book suggestions within piano marvel if you've got any more! Going through the past challenge series I've found to be good practice, too.

@@cyrusthe0ther795 that is not the point - 1(ONE) time through practice mode is what I said - this allows you to work out the changing fingering patterns.20 seconds is not going to tell you you have to change an entire octave later in the piece( 20 seconds is gonna give you initial fingerings for sight reading piece.- I've only seen a few advanced sight readers play through entire piece, on time, without playing through it once first and they have been playing 20+ years. This is why I brought up sight reading samurai - it recommends one time through the practice then play on time. - The timed pressure is one thing, but 20 seconds is not close to enough unless you maybe played the piece in the past - and that is where I think a lot of people like the SASR because eventually the pieces repeat themselves - IMHO.

As in all CZcams videos, I have difficulty understanding the spoken word when music is being played. Either play it as a soft background music or none at all. In addition, speak just a bit slower. It’s not a speed competition to speak at 120 words per minute.
