When Benny said her mama was thinking of her other daughter, I said "How did you come to that conclusion?! Girl, be for real!" I was trying not to be annoyed with her.
It was the biggest jump in the history of Hulu. It was laughable almost.
Yes!! She said the same stupid mess in the book too. I rolled my eyes sooo hard. It was worse seeing it in the show 😆

I almost fast forwarded Benny's episode. I wish they would focus more on Covy's story and less about the kids, because honey, I am not invested and they can't force me to be.
I would be happy if i just see Covey and her life in Jamaica and surviving life in Europe. That's what really attracted me to Black Cake.
Benny was tap dancing on my last nerve. You took your parents money for granted when they we’re paying for all the schools and majors you were transferred to before you dropped out. Then you want to pretend it was because they felt some type of why because of who you chose to date. No man it’s because of the poor decisions you made. The only thing I feel bad about is your DV situation. Benny go to therapy.
Agreed. It was a very childish response to logical criticism from her father. She acted like a 12 year old girl who was told she couldn’t go to the dance bc she failed her chemistry test 🙄
Yes, the lack of accountability with Benny gets on my nerves. Even with her trying to make the sister a reason as to why her mom may have treated her differently or blaming the girlfriend for what happened at dinner. No girl, you are all over the place.
Benny pisses me off with her twisting everything people say to her messed up mentality. She reminds me of my brother. He didn't help one bit with funeral arrangements when our dad passed away. Also, he pulled a Benny by turning his back on my Mom and I due to his messed up thinking that we are hurting him. Benny says she wanted family to go after her??! Her Mom calling and reaching out was not good enough?! If you need people to go after you like that and make you come back to the family, is not maturity in my book.
I would’ve been mad if I were her parent too! I KNOW you’re not about to waste THOUSANDS of my dollars and think I’m NOT gonna be upset?! Tf?! Benny was trippin, and I couldn’t side with her, not one bit. The DV tho, I was sad about that. But everything else was bullshit
I wouldn’t be mad if we never seen Benny again. She’s an awful person.
Agreed. I found out that the actress who plays Benny has an Emmy award, sucks to waist her talent on this terrible character.
In the book, Mabel did question her looks versus her parents. They were described as blonde, small statured people. And she had dark or olive complexion, was taller, and physically "different" from them. They claimed she took from her "Italian" grandmother genetically.
I think it would have been worse if they cast blonde haired actors as her parents in the show.
It hurt me so bad for Covey, knowing her daughter didn't want a relationship with her for so long. One thing i kept yelling at Covey was, "stand up for your daughter and tell your husband to not be so hard". In that situation, i would say to my kid, "fine, follow your dreams", but next time you ask me for money, the answer is "No"!Another thing, generational curses are true. Through 3 different generations we see abandonement in the family in different ways in this series.

It’s crazy how Byron will still lose his job trying to “stand up” for his sister against Steve. Did you notice how Mabel’s son act just like his Auntie Benny? What do you think Mabel’s secret is about her son’s Father?
I feel like Steve is going to threaten to drop the charges on Byron if Benny agrees to be with him, or something sketchy. I don’t know what’s up with Mabel’s son’s father.
I think he asked Mabel if he was the father, since he had a more olive complex, curly hair....or maybe the son, too, is a product of sexual assault??
Mabel is the same color as Meghan Markle and I always knew Meghan had Black in her back in the early days of Suits before they even started to play up her being mixed so that's that.

I know I’m late late to the Black cake recap, but I had to echo your sentiments. Bratty Benny worked my last nerve! Bryon snapping was so uncharacteristic, but I guess it was bound to happen. How Mabel didn’t question anything is beyond me and I think attorney Morton had something with Covey slash. The series is good, wish I could binge the whole season!

OMG, I thought I was the only one annoyed with Benny! I kinda think it's also partly the way the actress plays her. Mostly her facial expressions and timing. If I was playing Byron, I'd have a hard time playing opposite that acting.
I do think the sad eyes under the big hair add a bit to whatever emotion she’s expressing on camera.

First off! I’m watching episode 5 and I’m BEYOND annoyed of Benny, that I looked up a review of the show just to see if I wasn’t the only one. Then I see this video, and the title is why I’m here. Lord, now let me go ahead n watch your review when I’m done with this episode 😂😂😂
Great review Elle. Bratty Benny is the perfect name! Once again, she rode my last nerve. Mabel is the prime example of you are always the last to know because How Sway? Especially looking at her son with all those curls. I agree 100% about Byron. I didn't like that part it seemed off brand. I know Bratty Benny called him with the SOS and told him about their
past DV but 🤔.
It went from 0 to 60 in no time flat. I think they were trying to play at the fact that Byron was holding everything in for so many years that he just lost it. But he just doesn’t seem like the type. I hope he cusses Benny out next episode 😂

SPOILER ALERT: The 3 kids unite with Covey/Eleanor's best friend Bunny. They scatter her ashes in the ocean along with a black cake the "half sisters" made together. Also, in the book, Byron never met Steve, so that fight never happened. Benny said the reason why she didn't come to the funeral is because Steve "beat her so bad she was in the hospital." Her eye was swollen shut, arm was broken and in a sling, bruised ribs. Yeah....
@@watchwithmeellebeeByron never even met the boyfriend in the book. The last couple of scenes were all fabricated for the show. It didn’t elevate the show like the addition of the Scotland coworker woman. I thought that was an addition that worked well.
@@skewell55small correction: she didn’t miss the funeral because she was in the hospital. She showed up but didn’t get out of the car because she didn’t want her mom and bro to see her broke up like that.

Bennys’ story is somewhat different in the novel. She made more sense in the book
They giving a lot of sauce and embellishments that aint in the book. 😅 Light rewrites here and there. Im watching the series hollering at the TV, "That aint happen!!!"😂😂😂
