I made a couple of comments this week about Eric. My heart broke when research from a fellow Eric fan informed us how he had been doing letting us know how Eric had been doing since his retirement. To hear today that Eric passed away at a very young age. I share my deepest condolences with his wife and kids. I also share my sadness with the rest of his family. Thank you for listening while I rambled on.
With what we now know about concussions and CTEs, I can't help but think about the hits Eric McClure took during his career and how they might have attributed to some of his issues in recent years.
I just hope he is getting the help he needs.
It's sad to read that, I just seen that he has died.
@@MrCheesyBaconBits very
Given the news on Sunday May 2, 2021, there has been quite a bit of speculation that the number of concussions he sustained over the years may have been a contributing factor. RIP Eric McClure.
Tldr: he didn’t
Sadly, it may well have shortened his life.
I had to stop by here after I heard the news. Rest In Peace, Eric McClure. My thoughts and prayers go to him and the McClure family in this dark time.
Me too
Its amazing as many times as McClure crashed hard and had his bell rung, that he stuck it out as long as he did.
He drove primarily for his family team, Morgan McClure, even after they exited the Cup Series.
@@AEMoreira81
Actually, he didn't. He ran a handful of events for MMM, but he mainly drove for JD Motorsports, Front Row, Team Rensi and Tri-Star, with some partial seasons for JGL, Jimmy Means, MacDonald Racing and Mac Hill Motorsports

He died today. May he rest in peace

Anyone else think it's crazy that this was posted 1 week ago and he passed today? Not saying it's conspiracy, just a crazy coincidence.
If you think THAT’S a coincidence, look at Eric McClure’s Twitter. Holy shit!! RIP
@Zachary Owens bc he must have died inside.
Reading the tweet on May 7th of his fiance' on her page ...Msy God be with her.
R.I.P. Eric McClure. It's freaky that I watched this a day before his death. Life is really creepy sometimes.
I was in a rehab facility with Eric in glax va a few years back and he was my roommate for 21 days dudes a good man and I was lucky enough to get some wisdom from him so sad to hear about his loss
What wisdom did he give you?
@@TheColoradoKartercom dont worry about it
That was not only the worst xfinity wreck of all time
But the hardest hit to the wall and one of the worst non-fatal accidents all-time.
But it likely contributed to Eric McClure's early death at just age 42, likely from CTE.
Junto al del Daytona 500 del 2000 te dejo a muchos aficionados perdidos
R.I.P Eric McClure (1978-2021) in this race it was one of the Nascar worst accidents and McClure was transferred to a hospital in Alabama
Yes, he was transferred to UAB in Birmingham which is probably one of the nations top trauma units.
I just watched a documentary about him and he suffered tremendously in his career and this crash was the tipping point to some severe health problems, several of which were nearly fatal. Eric passed away in 2021 and while we don't know exactly what it was (some speculate CTE induced suicide and others speculate all these hits he took in his career wreaked havoc on his body and it just finally had enough), the whole story about Eric is incredibly sad. RIP
While I didn't think he was dead like many other people, I thought he was seriously injured. I mean, a hit into the safer barriers did save him, but even then, at 170+ MPH is still a brutal hit.

@@AEMoreira81 honestly, it really has... it’s like an old IndyCar driver named Salt Walther, but McClure never did any crimes. Except he assaulted his wife.
From what I can see, drivers like Salt Walther (his 1973 Indy 500 crash) and Eric McClure suffered so much on their terrible crashes, I believe it affects them as a person. I’m no doctor or psychologist, but that’s what I can assume
@GN fortunately, I’ve never seen a fatal crash live. Unfortunately, I hate to see fans see fatal crashes lives
R.I.P Eric. You will be missed by all of NASCAR’s drivers and us fans
Whenever I watch this now, I notice how close McClure was to the end of the safer barrier when he hit it. If he would've hit the concrete wall that would've been horrible.

I think he was never the same after this...RIP Eric.
Just here to give you first hand facts of what happens to your body from extreme trauma like this. Its WAY more than just the broken bones or even spinal injuries. I was hit while walking in a crosswalk by an F-250 going about 27mph. Besides the expected injuries(spine surgeries, ect) the trauma set off autoimmune and inflammatory issues that I NEVER had at any point in my life. Fevers, lower extremities swelling up, fevers, skin issues, joints extremely tender and sore, nausea, tremors, not to mention vertigo and post concussion syndrome, vestibular issues...ugh. "Nightmare " doesnt even cover it. Im STILL experiencing new issues to this day...3.5 yrs later. Point is, there is no doubt this accident had a huge part in his death...even this many years later. Residual issues are ongoing after such a trauma.
Just found out that he passed away this morning. R.I.P.
it's debatable to call this crash "fatal". although he went on to race after this. his body was never really 100% after this crash with all the internal injuries and brain hemorrhage that caused his death
I know it’s not his fault, but what a terrible time to post this. Rip Eric, what a man, what a racer.
Damn. Just got the note from ESPN that he died yesterday. Sad news.
Prayers for his family and his daughters.

That car didn't even looked like it slowed down when it impacted that inside wall. Thank goodness for Safer Barriers
It honestly looks like it sped up.
I thought the throttle hung! That car tested the SAFER barrier to the extreme.
@@AEMoreira81 I was thinking the samething. I can only imagine what would have happened to the 43 instead of the safer barrier. So close.
makes me wonder if that saved his life that it didnt just stop going that fast. well that and hans device

Nobody really mentioning it but I believe Robert Richardson was hurt in this crash too. You can see his foot clearly causing him a lot of pain when he climbs out.
18:22 Look how high the steering column is!
Why is it so high? Maybe the saftey crew moved it so they could remove him from the car easier?
@@thephenomenalgarage6707 looks like that was a result of the crash. I think the safety crew cut the roof because the dash was in the way.
@@_TEKNOIR_ The saftey crew cut the roof away to pull the driver straight up out of the car. Trying to remove the driver through the window net may injure the driver more and it makes it more difficult because the head rests, and its a very narrow working space.
look how it bent the axle tubes foward.
From what we know now, this crash might have accelerated a disease called Rhabdomyolysis, which causes your muscles to breakdown and look ridged, and unnatural, which leads the broke down muscle to be filtered to the Kidneys, and leading to Kidney Failure. Leading cause, Crush Damage.
Man, Eric was one unlucky and lucky person. Race in Paradise Eric
15:56... McClure hits the safer barrier about 5+ car lengths away from the end of the barrier and into the transition to cement. Results would have been obvious had he hit the cement part... an immediate death instead of 9 years later. RIP Eric

Rip Eric. At 18:22 you can see the shaft for the steering wheel must have been pushed up. Looks like the steering wheel was pushed almost up into the roof
I think the safety crews bent it to make it easier to pull him out of the car

I’ve always wondered if they ever thought about building in a removable driver capsule of sorts. Something that can easily be pulled away from the wreckage and then once completely out can easily open to safely remove a driver. They have something similar in racing boats. Those are even water proof. And isn’t the drivers seat removable in F1 cars to be able to be lifted out of the car?
Looking at how that steering column went after the wreck sends chills, those guys sit so close to the wheel as well, I could never sit that close in my race car - I wondered if those guys do it just because that's the kind of position others have used for many years ??
RIP Eric :(
Friend, you need the leverage. If the wheel is at arm's length, the way you see in movies, or tough guys with their arms straight, wrist on the wheel in their pickup, there is absolutely no way you can control one of these beasts if it gets out of shape. The tires are very wide slicks and the steering ratio is such that the front wheels actually turn faster than the sterring wheel. If the power steering goes out it is impossible, not difficult, but impossible to turn the car. In the old cars, it was much like a regular street car. But now, you need the leverage or by the end of the race you won't be able to turn the car at all. Plus, it is safer to be close to the wheel. If you are far away and slam into it you will develop more momentum and it will actually be worse. Anyway im sorry I don't mean to be a knownit all. I just care, thats all. If you do race sir, think of these things to be safe and take care.
Rest In Peace buddy💙
Miss seeing him at the busch series races. Miss seeing that (14) Reynolds Wrap race car. Mr. McClure's race car always looked sharp. Fly high sir.

That crash and Austin Wayne Self's crash in 2015 were crashes where everybody feared the worst.
RIP🙏🏼
If that Safer Barrier hadn't been on that inside wall, this probably would have had a much more tragic ending.. McClures car hit so hard into that Safer Barrier it got pushed all the way back to the actual inner wall, that's some force.
when McClure was spinning, did he try to brake at all? idk i do not see any tire marks indicating as such, in slow mo it seems like he is even accelerating
Jeffrey Earnhardt and Robert Richardson Jr both hit hard as well
God bless you man.
