  • Hey Guys!! Today I am sharing with you my first time custom blending fragrances. This is my first attempt at doing custom blending and I have to say I feel I learned a lot...about what goes well together, the process of deciding and how to incorporate these into my products. Although a lot of my testing wax melts were not successes I feel so much more comfortable with trying this again.
    I hope you enjoyed this video, if you did, please consider hitting the like and subscribe buttons. That will really help my channel grow. Thanks!

    This i so helpful to me because you don't like the same ones I don't like! Although to be exact I don't have whiskey but I do have "Kentucky Bourbon" from 16/17 and it's awful. I was also not impressed with "Library." And I DO like sandalwood. thanks for this.

      Glad it was helpful! - and I started liking library! I know - CRAZY! - but as long as I blend it I'm good. I just blended it with Sherlock's Study from Midwest Fragrance and am in love with it!
      Sandalwood - well I'm still working on liking that one LOL - thanks for watching!!🤗

    They usually have coffee beans at a perfume counter because if In between fragrances, smell the coffee beans it is suppose to refresh your ole factories, so you can smell the true fragrance blends.

      Hi Lisa!! Thanks for that tip - I used to have coffee beans for my craft show table but no one used them so I gave it up...CS did say on the live I watched that smelling your own skin works great. So I will smell the back of my hand or arm to reset my nose - but even with that I will get a headache if I smell too many too fast🙄

    Just call me Brittany because Oops I did it again! Just last night I bought more FO! I must be tuning into your brainwaves because I was think of blending them. The latest soap I made I had a few FO's left and so I thought, "meh I'll just throw these together and see what I get." I made sure I didn't go over the usage rates and it smells sooo freaking fantastic but, do ya think I wrote down what and how much I used? Of course I didn't. It did turn my soap a god awful green gray swirl. I mean this is one ugly soap! I'm thinking of calling it Putin's Brain. Thoughts? 😂😂 One thing is certain, I now understand where the term "mad scientist" comes from. A little of this, a little of that, and a dash of this, a sprinkle of that and *POOF* ! It's ALIVE!! 🤓 Thanks for making my day so much fun! xoxoxox

      I'm glad I'm sitting here alone so my husband doesn't think I've gone crazy laughing at the computer!😂😂😂 I love your story! I did that once years ago with sea type FO's - that was before I even knew that IFRA was a thing...but it turned out great and I want to do it again. I wrote down what I used but it didn't matter, I knew I would never buy some of those fragrances again. I wish I could see this Putin's Brain of yours! Or smell it! Thanks for such a great chuckle Brittany!! 💖💖💖

    I love how you do it the right way. I should do that lol. I just open different ones and wave the bottles together under my nose 😂. In perfume shops though, sometimes they have coffee beans to smell in between fragrances to somehow “reset” your sniffer. I haven’t tried that at home though. I love the smell of coffee so much that I would prolly get stuck on the beans lol. Awesome video, thank you!♥️

      @WalnutCreekBathBoutique  Před 2 lety +1

      😂😂😂 oh my gosh you make me laugh!! So something I learned while watching the CS live was to smell your own skin to reset you nose - it works better than coffee beans. I've tried it and it really works! So I just smell my arm or back of my hand and go on. But, I do get a headache if I smell too many too fast.

      I’m with ya, I get headaches too after a while when I’m smelling a lot of different ones. When I first started making soap I worried if I was gonna be able to tolerate it, but I’m not bothered at all unless I’m smelling right out of the bottles. Thank goodness!

    Thank you so much for making this video! I've been wanting to try blending fragrance oils myself, but wasn't sure where to start. Next time you need to show us the actual mixing of the fragrances and making of the wax melts! Newbies like me need all the help we can get! LOL!
    Do you find fragrances smell different in wax melts compared to soap? And if you're mixing for soap, how do you make sure not to exceed the IFRA usage rate?

    • @WalnutCreekBathBoutique
      @WalnutCreekBathBoutique  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Andi! I will def tape the blending and making from start to finish for my wax melts! I actually have a video that I have taped that shows that but I want to redo it...it is already out of date (meaning I changed my wax melt packaging, taped the video about it, and then changed it again before I could get it on here LOL)
      I do find fragrances smell different in soaps/wax melts than the bottle. I also find that they smell different in each product. I have a wax melt and soap with the same fragrance but they don't smell exactly the same. When I blend I just make sure that my usage % is below the IFRA standards. One time I made a black raspberry vanilla, one fo had a 3.5% usage rating so I used that one at 3.5% and then topped it off (to my usual 5%) with another BRV that had a higher rating. - hope that made some sense lol

    • @WalnutCreekBathBoutique

      Hi Laurie! The wax was the same brand and I do add a bit of paraffin to it - AND I did some testers after this that actually worked wonderful. So I think my wax is good but a lot of the blends were not. I was so disappointed!😯 - but I do feel better that my almost 50 pounds of wax is good 😂
