so i SHOULD eat the yellow snow?
Lol
It's not yellow. It's just the pee refracting in the ice crystals. :P
Watch out where those huskies go & do not eat that yellow snow.
+MrBeatboxmasta L
and pay no attention to where the huskies go.
My favorite part of every video is googling who I am when making the dish.
😂😂😂
Lol
I always add the tiniest pinch of salt. It slightly lowers the freezing temperature and brightens the flavour just a bit. Always guarantees a sphenopalatine ganglioneuralgia when eating.
Around the outside, around the outside, around the outside
That should be a bunt
lol is it me or does that sound like yg song?
Without Me - Eminem
"Buffalo Gals" by Malcolm McLaren 1982, Eminem references it in "Without Me". Chef John and I must have older siblings (WAY older) that would play the original ... we are both 21 :)
Hey eyes, don't you ever get tired of being wrong?
I'd go for a shot of gin over it rather than vodka, but you are the Harley Quinn of your vodka and gin.
I was thinking gin as well.
hehehe.....great.
Does Donald Trump of your rum works?
if he does rump roast you can be the donald trump of your roasted rump
I'm in Culinary School, and a few weeks ago we made poached pears in red wine and then made a Granita with the wine poaching liquid afterwards...and OMG, it was SOO good, I would've bathed in it! 😋
That's a great idea. I'll definitely go there next time I do pears.
Oh man, that is a treat. I imagine that with white peaches and a good fruity white wine.
"Around the outside, around the outside, around the outside." Every damn time ❤️ i always say it with you
Chef John, I just found your channel and website and I am now totally addicted to Food Wishes! Where have you been hiding the past, what? 8 years?!? I guess I should have checked the kitchen. Thanks for all the great recipes served with the kind of smart-ass wit I appreciate. My wife also thanks you since I do the cooking at our house and now she gets to eat stuff that tastes ... well, a lot better than before. Thank you, thank you thank you!
Oh, and who are the 23 dopes who didn't like this?!?
When I'm really lazy I like to just put a bottle of Powerade in the freezer and shake it about every 30 minutes until it's chunky enough. Maybe drink a little bit of it beforehand so there's room for it to shake.
That's... actually a good idea. I'll try this with a lemonade or some other drink lol. I'm so lazy to even boil water and mix it with a fork. Whoop.
Same here...too lazy. I like the frozen lemonade idea in a bottle, just shake. :)
Chef John has increased my quality of life considerably
Chef John makes me so happy! Amazing food at the best times !
This is going to sound incredible... but my sister burnt a sauce pan boiling water.
I know someone who did that too. They forgot about it & it turned the pot black inside lol
Bruh...
Flowering Mandevilla Vine same story, different outcome. the water was for pasta so she put oil and salt on it. not only did the pot got black and crusty. the kitchen was white in smoke.
boiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii
***** WOW! :-P
Gawd it's kinda scary that just trying to cook & making a mistake or forgetting about something could cause a disturbing & possibly dangerous outcome!
One time my cousin was sent to the store for a head of lettuce & came back w/cabbage & family members teased her so bad she never tried to cook anything ever again.
Ever. She's the one who messed up the boiling water
loved your dad's story! I will have to try this recipe soon
Oooohhhh, I'm definitely going to have to try this out - my fiance loves lemon food stuffs. Plus it looks perfect for all the hot weather we've been having lately.
Such an awesome recipe. You rock Chef John!
Glad you mentioned the vodka because that's exactly what I did a couple weeks ago when I made watermelon granita. I mixed the vodka into my initial liquid mixture and it came out great with a spritz of fresh lime juice. A refreshing treat on those 90+ degree days.
I love lemon flavored stuff, IM SO GONNA TRY THIS
When ever there is not "around the outside" line, the video feels empty. Whenever there is no repetition, if feels plain wrong. This video right here made me super happy, and also yeah, cool recipe.
So simple and easy, will deff give it a try!
My favorite chef.
To measure 7/8c, measure a cup and remove 2T.
That's not bad.
How do you remove the wax on the lemons ?
+crepu33 if you can't find unwaxed lemons use hot tap water. 👍
+crepu33 hot water works for me
+crepu33 You don't. Buy unwaxed lemons to start with.
I'm a simple man, I see a new video on foodwishes I thumbs up.
Being a New Yorker and seeing this, you have inspired me to make this!
nice dad story:)
I tried making shaved ice this weekend. Major fail! I am so glad you posted this!
Ooh, that looks great Chef Jon.
I made your cantaloupe cayenne sorbet! It was delicious! Use two pinch cayenne. It was too spicy for some folks if you use the recipe amount (like I did). I recommend the recipe. I can't wait to try this recipe . I'll let you know how it turns out!
I guess I'm going to have to go get some fresh lemons on the way home today!
Guess, I'll knock on my neighbors door for a bag of lemons. : )
no one makes me wanna cook more than chef john
looks so refreshing 😋
Refreshing, perfect for a hot day. 🍋
Yes Chef John, that is literally, exactly what I was thinking.
"I see a couple of tiny seeds that got through the lemon squeezer, which reminds me of something funny my father told me a long time ago..."
I totally thought that story was going to take a darker turn.
can't wait to try
Chef John, you're a real inspiration but I have two questions: how many fork mixes did it take for you to get to the desired texture, and who taught you how to cook?
This has been my food wish for years. LITERAL YEARS.
You are the Reince Priebus of your lemon squeezes. I honestly laughed hard! Great show, chef!
I might try this with lime instead. I'm not comfortable with the idea of serving yellow snow.
Can't wait to make this one when its hot later this week!
Looks great!! I have to try it :-)
Love it
Fresh cold water, not to be confused with stale cold water. Good tip, thanks John.
Great video chef John!
Oh my goodness !! YES !!
I have been making this by accident everytime I make too much lemonade lol. Great lemon ice story btw.
Whiskey sours are the best, you have good taste my san fran man.
Please could you do an episode on your favourite drink recipes?
Whiskey sour is about my favourite thing in the world, pretty sure you have other good ones up your sleeve!
I wish I had this right now. So refreshing 😋
4:34 give it a proper "forking" :))))))))
mouth watering
Alternatively: add vodka along with the lemon juice and put into an ice cream maker for sorbet.
Making this tomorrow!
thank you for some variation, I like this more than chocolate ice cream
So glad you mentioned the Vodka, I skipped ahead a step and thought I might have been wrong-phew!
in Jamaica we call this a snow cone lol....can't wait to try this!!
we have "snow cones" in the states too. but they are shaved/ground ice covered in syrup :)
That's our snow cone lol. Honestly, once it includes it's shaved iced, we consider it a snow cone lol
+TheNormalOddball he even says snow cone in the video...
I'm the 1000th like!
MY GREATEST LIFE ACHIEVEMENT
Im always amazed how the most simple recipes you do seem... idk, grand. you definitely need to upload daily for us obsessed fatties. :D
Hi C.J.
Can you tell me if I were to use a sugar substitute such as Splenda would this recipe still work ?
I can't wait to try making this. Thanks 😀👍🇺🇸
my fave ice
Need to try! This looks great, especially with this California heat that feel as if it's trying to kill me haha.
Mmm... Yellow snow 😍
Hi Chef!! This looks delicious! Do you have a recipe for DIY KIND bars?
Refreshing
I don't make most of these recipes. I am mostly here for Chef John's commentary haha
Looks awesome! It would be cool if you used a mixture of lemon, lime and orange juice and zest.
Yes to the vodka! I also like cracked black pepper on the top, as well.
"hey eyes, you ever get tired of being wrong" 5:42
Yum!!
I just made a Jerusalem Salad. cucumber, tomato, red onion, parsley, olive oil, lime juice. I'd love to see your take on that!!! Call it my food wish
very excellent forking skills.... :D
nice Eminem reference. Maybe next time you can make some (wait for it) Vanilla Ice. haha
that's a nice zest tool.
I like your reference to Malcolm McLaren's "Buffalo Gals!"
This can also be made with crushed blackberries. The berries give the final product an almost creamy texture. Oh and crushed pear slices as well as long as they're VERY ripe.
If you've never had lemon ice before, urine for a treat!
Mmmmmm Yum!
I have watched hundreds of Chef John's videos... and I don't cook.
Hey Chef John, if I make this with limes, would I still need to use any extract?
you see... i burn water. well actually i burn the pan because my 2 loves are cooking and video games and some games last for longer than the water can but on the other hand i have my favorite chef so even when i do this, i clean it up, try again and eat amaziing. thank you chef John
Round the outside, round the outside lol.
I wish we had lemons in Jamaica.
Can you do a croissant recipe? Thanks very much!! :)
I once put some Irish Mist into a wine skin for a day of skiing on Sunshine in Banff.40 below that day. On the way up my mustache had rather long icicles attached. My buddy and I stopped after a while for a drink. The Irish Mist turned into this wonderful slushie. That was cool! Pun equally intended.
Chef John, what type of lemon juicer do you have? I bought a few different brands and returned every single one.
Question: if we are saving it for later and we stick it in the freezer, it'll solidify.. so once we're ready to eat more after that point, what needs to be done? Or is it only all to be eaten pretty much right away? Thanks!
A proper forking.. ayyyyy
omg I was thinking about the exact thing when Chef John mentioned a drizzle of Vodka.
Chef.... Boy could I use one of these forking Babies today here in North Texas.... 103 today :)
Please do a mango granita recipe!
around the outside x3 lmaooooo
as much as I really want to make these--like seriously, my mouth is craving for it ryt now...Ufortunately, our freezer is extremely full as of the moment. Welp, maybe next tym.
My Nona used to make this for me when I was a little kid.
Can you do something with summer squash? I've got fresh crook necks and zucchini coming out my ears.
I'm so high. I LOL'ed so hard at the whisky sour joke
+Theresa Vercide I laughed at how you said he laughed by saying "LOL'ed"
Chef john can you show different recipes for steak
Hi chef John
can i use lime
I made this once with lime and it turned out perfectly. But when I put the leftovers back, they froze solid. How do I prevent that next time?
Lol his way of talking and explaining things!! He is funny.
Why does the sugar water mix need to cool before adding lemon juice? Curious.
