This video was all over the place... And I loved it.
How on earth did you get your whole family to cooperate in this piece of movie making magic? 🤔
Bro! This is one of your BEST videos! Loved the editing, the jokes, the fam! Your story telling is freaking awesome! Super enlighten!!! I needed this! Thank you! Much love brother! 💜
This just *chefs kiss* I've pondered this subject a lot and come to realize that "your sound" is essentially other peoples perceptions of the way you make decisions, your taste, basically something you can only find by continuing to create until it happens by itself without you ever being conscious of it. Kind of how certain film directors get pinned with a "look" or "style" just by making films the best way they know how.
You are not a CZcamsr you are a storyteller. Excellent video friend.
"...you are not helping me at all." kudos all, great performance.
and... dropping some earned truths. thanks for the generosity of spirit that propels your channel.
The best music channel on CZcams by far. Thanks for another great video.
Wow, this is so creatively edited and I love how you blended your advice with storytelling. This is the second video of yours that I've watched and I love how thoughtfully constructed these videos are. Thank you so much for your effort and advice!
Love this one Jon. I never wanted to learn songs as a kid, I always wanted to do my own thing. So, I would capture the feel of a Jeff Beck or Holdsworth but never a whole song. Now having been out of the scene for a while, and mostly in the studio, I have had the chance to sit in a lot. So, I have been learning songs, and IT IS MAKING ME BETTER. If you learn and play dozens of Beatles tune, for example, you learn a whole heck of a lot.
Wow great Dad ,great family🎆✨️😄😄
🤩 These JOHN CLEESE videos were REVELATORY. Thank you!!! 💞🎉💞
in back to the future he played a 345 with bigsby on the wall was a 355 with stoptail, that could have never been the same guitar.
Thank you. I have several of those folders. Needed to hear this.
Best intro ever. I'm in stitches. 🤣
I needed this. Thanks.
Great Video! It’s what I needed today. It’s really easy to forget about your own sound when you work for another people. Thanks for inspiration.
such a nice video, hope you continue to make more!
It's no coincidence I started playing the same year Michael J Fox played that guitar.
Loving that new comedy troupe you've hired by the way, hope they're not costing you too much :)
Great video. I am looking at that “archive of ideas” right now. Thanks for the motivation Jon!
Thanks, Jon. Always an inspiration. . . . and, never stop pursuing your sound/voice/style. Have enjoyed you taking us along on your journey. I've even managed to learn "stuff" along the way. Wins all around.
As someone who's finishing the production of a third (and probably last) album entirely DIY, thanks for this video. And I've got the EXACT same videos of Mr. Cleese in my feed this week. Amazing.
Perfect timing 🙏🏻
As videographer taking up music as a hobby I do appreciate all the time and effort you put both in music and film 😊
dude this channel is amazing can't wait to see you grow
".... maybe they just want somebody who's still looking." SO GOOD. Spot on, mate. Feels like the production music end of this business has done us no favors when it comes to making an identifiable personal music/creative brand. "Jack of all genres, master of none" maybe. My frustration is (temporarily?) muted by your excellent work here, thank you. 🙏
Very enlightening, and entertaining. Who would have thought that, of all people, John Cleese (one of my favorite comedians) would provide us with the answer.
I turned 60 earlier this year, and now realize the trap I had fallen into.
Thank you.
So funny! The riffs you were working on are exactly the same riffs I’ve been playing recently: Layla, Sweet Child ‘o Mine, and Money for Nothing. Great. You should try Sultans of Swing as well…
Great, as ever! And John Cleese book on Creativity is super too. And an F1 fan...! 🙌🏻
I need to check out that book!
Excellent advice, excellent video - thank you!
Another amazing and thoughtful video that resonates with me .
I have been years trying to stick to this originality thing without doing anything likable and always giving up. In one summer day, I have seen Joe Hisaishi playing and understood I would never be able to do something like this if I don't understand the patterns of his playing. So, I asked myself, isn't the most easier way to learn just by doing the same as he does? This took me out from creating a decent chorus every decade to creating a decent chorus in days, you can learn soo much with the masters and even theory becomes easier to understand.
This was so great, Jon. You are a gifted storyteller and sonic philosopher. This video came to me right when I needed it, similar to your story in this video. Thank you so much for the wisdom and insight in this one
Thanks for this video, Jon. Great one.
Glad you enjoyed it, Eduardo!
Speaking of Duluth, MN... 😅 The beginning of the 5th track of my debut album is the sound of waves I recorded there on the shore of Lake Superior during a vacation to the US. So I guess I was copying nature to create my mysterious alien planet sound. Also the sunrises over the lake are spectacular!!! 🤩🌅💯
Loved this video!
Yeah, that USP is a struggle. Over the years, I've given up and just try to really listen and go with what I like. Maybe that's enough, maybe it isn't, but you can't find something you can't identify, as you show so well in the video.
Amazing content! Thank you!
Glad you liked it!
Jon, your videos are so inspiring! Everything about them is great and entertaining. Keep up the great work man.
Thanks! Will do!
inspiring
Hey Jon, just for some alternative feedback (since most of it is so overwhelmingly positive), I thought the jumping around between topics, locations, and stories was on the distracting side. I can see what you were going for, but being taken out of the zone by sudden switches in scenery or interruptions from family made it a lot harder to absorb what you were trying to say, kind of like ADHD.
I also know that you know you were all over the place in the video, but I hope you can make use of my comment in some way for future videos; perhaps for timing of the scene switches, or better flow between topics. Thanks for the hard work and your quality content as always!
thank you for the feedback.
Do you know who has a sound? Ross Geller!
You've certainly found your "video sound", man.
It’s the journey
Library Music is not meant to sound original. It's meant to give you a certain type of mood.
i made it thru your video and enjoyed it… i stopped reading this comment almost immediately 😆
I live 3 minutes off 35. Start driving north, see ya soon.
So, I hope you see this comment. You video quality is great and you nailed the audio. Now the but.. your story skill may need some help. Let me explain. I have gone through some of your past videos (the hi view counts) and looked at your more recents. I believe in a simple fix to bring it back. Your videos are so smooth and enjoyable when it's filled with reactions. You do something and then something happens as a response. You're best video started with you talking and the video shots were reacting to your words. I would suggest you trying this approach again. when that video started I was really focused, as the reaction stalled so did my focus. If this current video had a voice over mystery theater 3000 style commenting on screen it could be a solution to bring you more views. But if this just seems to be one of those comments that would slow you down from making really great content. Never look back. I truly think that this could bring you some good Internet mojo. Hope this helps 😎👍 thank you
Thanks for the feedback.
Classic ferrari 😭😭
I think I found your sound but it didn't have a collar....
